What happened to all the cryptics

Recommended Posts

Minor spoilers for work.

Okay so we know that when a knight breaks their oath it can lead to killing their spren. Easy to sea with honor spren, and in shallen's case it can easily be seen how pattern suffered. But pattern said that all cryptics from before are gone. Did all the knights suppress memories? If so what could be so horrible that all the knights lost their spren?

*Spoilers galore* I think a lot of that has to do with what exactly it was Shallan did to hurt Pattern. Was it suppressing the memories, or was it the fact that she outright rejected him? And was he "killed" in the same way Syl was, or was he merely wounded or banished back to the Cognitive Realm?

It is odd that ALL the crypics were killed. You'd think a few Lightweavers would have been killed naturally, and their war-hardened spren would have returned to the cognitive realm. Were all the Lightweavers of that particular time alive? AND 9/10 Heralds? Why was the last desolation so damnation easy?

Do spren return to the cognitive realm when their Radiant is killed? I mean, if believing in the ideals is what is keeping them conscious- then wouldn't dying be just as effective as straying from them?

Just wanted to ask in case I was missing something x.x

Syl said she helped people kill before, wich indicates she was one of the original spren that bonded the ancient KR. She also said she could dissolve her bond with Kaladin when he asked her if she was responsible for what was happening to him. So there is a difference between a Radiant quiting or dying and betraying their oaths.

. . . the Recreance happened, clearly.

Whatever they all did to break their oaths simultaneously across 9 orders it works.

A very simple solution would be the Radiants just killed themselves. I am not saying that this is what I believe happened, simply that it would break the first oath of every order in a relatively easy manner.

Then it seems they should go work for Captain America, since they managed to die and actually walk it off . . *sarcasm*

They looked perfectly fine at Feverstone Keep, which is generally presumed to be the Day of Recreance vision. They just stabbed their blades into the ground, disengaged their plate, and stormed off. Their powers were perfectly intact prior because their blades and plate still glowed, and about a hundred of the windrunners dropped in from the sky instead of walking.
