Aradel he/him Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Is it possible to build a city that can only be accessed by utilizing the cognitive realm? Or build a city or structure that only exsists in the cognitive realm? (Since everyone else dismisses my Urithiru theory out of hand)
Windrunner he/him Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) Hey Goradel's Nephew, I hope you weren't offended by people not believing your idea in the Urithiru thread. If its any consolation, I had same idea myself and I still like it a lot. My main question is what would you build a city in the Cognitive Realm out of? Edited February 1, 2012 by Windrunner

If its any consolation, I had same idea myself and I still like it a lot. My main question is what would you build a city in the Cognitive Realm out of? Annoyed maybe, but only mildly. You'd build the city out of cognitive bricks, Jasnah built a temporary raft pretty easily, two full orders of knight radiants could build a truely impressive city. New question for Brandon: "Can you eat cognitive waffles?"
CrazyRioter she/her Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 there's some food for thought *rimshot* 6
Tulir he/him Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Random question that I thought up, Do you view the Force as well thought out and logical
Windrunner he/him Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Okay this is a question that's been discussed a bit on the Urithiru thread. Syl refers to herself as an honorspren. I believe that it would be odd for her to be the spren for an Order who's attributes are protection and leadership, when she just represents honor in general. So my belief is that honorspren is the name for the group of the ten types of spren that bond with the Radiants. So my question is: Does the term honorspren mean just the spren the bond with Windrunners, or does honorspren refer to a subset of spren that includes all ten spren types that bond with Radiants? Was that question clear? If not I'll try to explain it better later.
Zas678 he/him Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 No, it's clear. I think I'll go ahead and answer this since I think I can do it effectively. Actually.... my answer ended up being a lot longer than I expected. So I'll make a theory instead. My answer? Honorspren are just for Windrunners. I'll link my theory after I'm done with it.
Eri she/her Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 (edited) Scadrial has no moons, right? Roshar has 3, what about the other planets? Edit: Also, I think this list should be on wiki, it would be easier to add questions in one place and mark answered ones. Edited February 5, 2012 by Eri
Windrunner he/him Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Okay crazy question. If a piece of one of the Allomantic metals was Awakened, what would happen when an Allomancer tried to burn it? (Example burning Nightblood) Even crazier What would happen if a piece of Lerasium, Atium, or Sazedium, was Awakened, and an Allomancer tried to burn it? Crossover magic systems rock! Hope that conflux book happens so I can see the results.
Zas678 he/him Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 My guess would be that Invested materials can't be burned Allomantically. Pretty sure. Especially considering that they can't be targeted by allomancy (just like metals in someone can't usually be targeted).

Edit: Also, I think this list should be on wiki, it would be easier to add questions in one place and mark answered ones. Correct, Scadrial doesn't have a moon (and it never has had one, even before Rashek screwed up the planet's orbit.) Both Sel and Nalthis have only one. 1
Eri she/her Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Correct, Scadrial doesn't have a moon (and it never has had one, even before Rashek screwed up the planet's orbit.) Both Sel and Nalthis have only one. Thank you. Is there a source for „no moon on Scadrial”, besides no mention of the moon? My guess would be that Invested materials can't be burned Allomantically. Pretty sure. Especially considering that they can't be targeted by allomancy (just like metals in someone can't usually be targeted). I disagree — spikes and metalminds can be burned ant they are Invested. They can be steelpushed in a normal way, which is weird, but I'm pretty sure they are Invested. Maybe the amount of Investiture is to small to interfere with steelpushing (part of human, as opposed to more direct part of a Shard)? I think that burning an Invested metal either gives you the effect similar to burning someone else's metalmind (normal metal, no acces to power) or to burning own metalminds (a huge surge of power). It may depend on your compatibility with the type of Investiture used. Also, I believe Invested metal can be targeted, it's just harder to affect (like metal in the body). Which reminds me of Szeth believing that it's impossible to use Lashings on a Shardplate... i guess Kaladin will disprove that. I mean — not many things are impossible in the Cosmere (they are, as you said, usually impossible), but magic often interferes with another magic. And random things sometimes interfere with magic, too. (I'm starting to wonder, is it possible to Push aluminum, BTW...)
Zas678 he/him Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I have one for Scadrial, but I don't remember there being any say about Sel or Nalthis one way or another for moons. I remember that Roshar has three moons, but I don't remember where I got that from. I'm pretty sure there's in-book support for Roshar though. And hey! It's from the old TWG HoA Q&A: VEGASDAS How many moons circle Scadrial, ie. when the planet was moved were the moons moved as well? <snip> BRANDON SANDERSON 1. Scadrial has no moons. I think I let slip the phrase "he's mooning over her" somewhere in the third book, but that is just a translation quirk to English. These people have no concept of a moon. There is a very bright star patch, however, covering much of the sky--much brighter than on Earth. Yeah, I don't have any other interviews about any of the moons. Is there mention of moons in the texts? Let me check.... There's one moon in Sel. On page 329 of the hardcover of Elantris, it says: The moon was almost completely visible now. Hrathen stared up with renewed resolve. Plus there's the whole Jesker Mysteries thing that revolves around the moon. Now for Nalthis. Yep! There's a moon. Page 468 of the hardcover of Warbreaker says: His dreams the night before had been so odd. Finally, no visions of war. Just the moon. And some odd twisting passages. Like... tunnels. 3

(Though I had to use the ebook versions, as I am away from the actual texts at the moment, and could not cite pages.) I even checked the sample Liar chapters to see if there was mention of a moon for Yolen! (In case you are wondering, nothing is mentioned of a moon.) Additionally, it is possible to infer the lack of a moon around Scadrial from the Trell religion (which is pre-Ascension, and if there wasn't a moon then, then there won't be a moon in the "current" time): there are thousands of Trell's "eyes" (stars) and Trell's brother only has one eye (Scadrial's sun), but there is no mention of a larger "eye" for Trell that would indicate a moon. Someday I will get around to posting a list of astronomical features for each planet that I have inferred/made up. Edited March 1, 2012 by Thor 2
Zas678 he/him Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Better- add them to the Coppermind. Some of the planets really need some work.

I've got this, I've been working on the Shardworld articles this week anyway. I should have thought of the moons. EDIT: Never mind it seems Thor beat me to the punch. Cuaiir he/him Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 The discussion over here got me thinking... Are Steelpushing and Ironpulling related to the Surge of Gravity?
Windrunner he/him Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Just off the top of my head, I would guess no. What a Surgebinder does is actually twist the spiritual gravitational bond around him, so he's pulled a different way, effectively canceling his gravitational attraction to the planet below for a time. When Kelsier uses Ironpulling for one of the first times in TFE to steal atium from House Venture, he misses his target by a bit, because gravity pulls him to the ground. I could be entirely wrong though.
Aradel he/him Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Surgebinding yourself lighter has the same effect as filling an Ironmind though. Even if the energy is manipulated very differently. 1
Zas678 he/him Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Not necessarily. As Wax often mentions in Alloy of Law, when he's lighter, he falls at the same rate. But when you manipulate the Surge of Gravity, you'll fall slower because the earth isn't pulling on you as hard. Though I suppose that that will appear the same thing if you are stationary on a scale. But I believe that the two things are fundamentally different.
Ironeyes Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) I think that Lashing is very closely related to Steelpushing and Ironpulling. Brandon has stated that similar powers in different magic systems work the same way, but powered by a different Shard. So then Pulling should be like Reverse Lashing a piece of metal to yourself, not Lashing yourself to the metal. That way normal gravity would still affect you. By that same postulate, filling an ironmind would also be similar to decreasing your weight with Lashing. Exactly as Zas says, manipulating gravity with Surgebinding decreases your spiritual connection with the planet. Filling an ironmind would be storing that connection. So when you're storing weight, your spiritual connection with the planet is weaker, because some of it is going into the metalmind. Then, when you tap, that connection increases. That make sense? PS: Sorry I don't know all the types of Lashing, since I haven't read more of WoK than the sample chapters on Tor's website. But I understand how they work. Edit: I read the Ars Arcanum, and slightly modified my theories to make sense. On another note, I've got another question: What would happen if a normal (non-Returned) person drew Nightblood fully and ran out of Breaths? I assume he would still be powerful, but not as powerful as when he's feeding on a wealth of Breaths. Edited March 15, 2012 by Ironeyes
Shivertongue he/him Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 How much bacon could be produces from a fabrial powered by one gemheart? Did that last question make sense? Can I have a cookie? 1
Aiken Frost he/him Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 How much bacon could be produces from a fabrial powered by one gemheart? None, because Bacon is Life. And a fabrial don't have the power of a god to create Life itself. Did that last question make sense? Yes. As much sense as the method of delivering a catfish's diner with a bamboo made of gold. Can I have a cookie? No cookie for the infidels. 1
