Observer Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 I probably just missed the explanation from reading too fast, but does anybody know why the acid Joel dumped on Nalizar didn't kill the Forgotten atttached to him?
Senor Feesh Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 I guess because it's either inside him or metaphysically attached in some way.
Kurkistan he/him Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 I don't think it was spelled out, but I assume it was because it wasn't "manifest": That would also explain why Nalizar was worthless for the battle: he had to wait for the acid to dry before he could use his powers, or risk dying. 1
Observer Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 Oh yeah, I remember him saying something like "If your acid hadn't weakened me" at one point towards the end...
Windrunner he/him Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Just as an aside, I strongly doubt Nalizar has a Forgotten. If I'm remembering right, that's what had attached itself to Harding, and it seemed largely unintelligent. I don't even think Nalizar's body is present. Something stronger and smarter than a Forgotten has taken Nalizar's shape. 1
Phantom Monstrosity Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 (edited) It's obviously a "Remembered". Like a Forgotten but it knows things? Edited June 29, 2013 by Phantom Monstrosity
Shardlet he/him Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 If I recall, and IIRC the forgotten are not chalk, but rather are charcoal. Charcoal is carbon and carbon is inert to acid. Though under certain conditions nitric acid might be able to get it done since nitric can donate oxygen atoms in some reactions. Yeah, just looked it up. The only listed carbon/acid reaction I saw was carbon and hot concentrated nitric acid.

The only listed carbon/acid reaction I saw was carbon and hot concentrated nitric acid. The problem with that explanation is the fact that acid killed the one attached to Harding. If we go with Phatom's explanation, it means we'll probably be introduced to a few new of Nabraskan creatures in book 2, if there are 3 we currently know of.

I'm fairly sure it isn't mentioned in the book, thought I think I read a topic where someone was speculating about it.

I was basing it off of at least the description that what's-her-bucket gave in her story about their colony being attacked.
