It was stated early on that it's genetic enough to be noticeable, but complex enough to be unpredictable. Which is about how everything genetic should seem to people of that time period. There's actually a hint as to which one it is in the name. Most of your questions are nearly immediately answered next book, so you shouldn't have to wait long for answers. Spoiler Even what the knife can do? The final book is called Burning White... I'm still waiting to be able to read The Broken Eye, as I get all my books from a library. I have Blood Mirror and Burning White, but no Broken Eye

And listening to the audiobook version of “Legendborn” by Tracy Deonn. I like reading. 1

The main character is 75. It's sci-fi, but not hard sci-fi, so far it's looking like space opera. The plot isn't very dense, and I'm on page 97 of 311. It feels like 'If Ender's Game had old folks instead of children'. It's... fine. 1

Thanks for the heads up, something to consider for light reading (considering I just finished the huge epic that was Deathworlders, and I am not sure how much longer I will last on The Blade Itself, though I do have a few other light readings in the queue - new Percy Jackson, Framed in Death, The Grimoire anthologies and non-Fiction Intuition Pumps) Edited September 7, 2025 by Treamayne SPAG

Can you get libby on just a computer I now I used to have overdrive on my laptop for library books, but they discontinued that and merged with libby or something, and when I looked into downloading that it was not actually available for windows. that was a few year ago though, things could have changed since. 1

From their FAQ: Spoiler What devices are compatible with Libby? You can download Libby on: iOS 10+ (get it from the Apple App Store) Android 7.1+ (get it on Google Play) Newer Fire tablets (get it from the Amazon Appstore) If you have a Windows computer, Mac computer, or a Chromebook, you can use Libby in your web browser at libbyapp.com. We suggest using the latest version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge. Hope that helps

IcedOutPenguin He/Him Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 (edited) You have three questions you can ask to guess the book I'm reading; one can be open-ended (cannot be "What book are you reading" or similar), but the other two have to be yes or no. Dunkum he/him Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Went to a used book sale a month or so back, and then another in the last week or two, and have been working my way through my hauls from those when I have time. so far: the Coyote trilogy by Allen Steele - a so/so sci fi series about colonizing a planet (technically a moon actually) in another star system. the books, especially the first, are almost more a series of interrelated short stories than a single cohesive narrative. the Dread Empire's Fall trilogy by Walter John Williams - a B+ space opera set 10000 years in the future when the last member of an alien race that conquered quite a few star systems finally dies, and what happens to their interstellar empire afterwards. The Secret Commonwealth by Phillip Pullman (second in his Book of Dust series) - i'm not 100% on this series or this book as a follow up to His Dark Materials. I don't hate it, but the world-building and characterization feel inconsistent with the prior books. The Black Company by Glen Cook - Very Good fantasy. Mercenary company in a war between a resurrected evil and those who might resurrect an even worse evil to defeat her. very obviously an inspiration for Malazan. I only got the first book at the first sale, but did pick up the second later, but haven't started it yet Assassin Apprentice by Robin Hobb - Another very good fantasy book/series (though I've only read this one so far - somehow I had never picked this series up over the years, despite the library definitely having it). illegitimate son of a royal family is brought in to work as their assassin Sung in Blood by Glen Cook - not nearly so good as The Black Company. can be skipped. The Godspeaker Trilogy (omnibus edition) by Karen Miller - Fantasy series with a heavy focus on religion and ritual. not sure where I stand on it, as I haven't finished it yet, but its at least a solid B. the first book felt more like an extended prologue to other two. Still have another 7 to get through, and there is another used book sale this weekend I plan to go to to increase my to-read stack even further. 1
-ACE- he/him Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 I just finished reading the cradle series. except for the 13th book, but that one doesnt really count. Im gonna read it soon i hope. Im getting back to the Ardor Benn Series. Its good. you should read it.
KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren He/Him Posted November 1, 2025 Posted November 1, 2025 So it's been a while since I last posted here Old Man's War was alright. I may or may not read the series eventually. Shorefall and Locklands, books 2 and 3 of the Founder's Trilogy... those were something. The series feels like Mistborn Era 1 in so many ways. The 'Sanderlanche', for lack of a better term, at the end of Locklands was... spectacular. Now I feel like I have to reread Hero of Ages to see if it's still better than Locklands. Amazing series. Next, I also finished The Broken Eye. I'm reading The Blood Mirror right now. Spoiler First, I think I may have caught the foreshadowing. Dazen, the Black Prism. Karris, once called the 'white Blackguard' and is now the White. White luxin? I think so. Kip, absorbing the cards, visiting a Nowhere-like dimension... I don't know what to make of that Gavin, having used black luxin to gain his powers... how had he gotten Lightsplitting? Was he somehow already a Lightsplitter? Was someone he'd killed a Lightsplitter? 1

Hope that helps Edited November 26, 2025 by Treamayne SPAG

KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren He/Him Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 I don't think this counts as double posting, so: I finished The Burning White. Epic ending. The whole book felt like the climax, which it kind of was. Spoiler Kip and Dazen drafting white... that I did not expect. Everything seemed to point to Karris. Also Andross being the Lightbringer is something I did not see coming before he said it in the 'flashbacks'. Sacrificing people to make a Prism... sounds a lot like hemalurgy. In fact, a lot about black luxin does. Memory loss could be from a damaged spirit web. I'm now reading Calamity, because I read the first two Reckoners books a while ago and really need to finish it 2
