ParadoxicalZen
Not all Radiants wore plate, I believe, although it would be entertaining to see her stumbling around in it

ParadoxicalZen
Trying to find where i read it, but i can't remember if it was direct WoB or if it was topic based (hence why i said "I believe"). I think it was more to do with each Order's qualities, the way each Radiant varied from the next and how each specific Radiant manifested the Order's qualities. So like not all Windrunners were just fighters (probably most though), not all Elsecallers were just scholars etc. etc. and that Shardplate was optional depending on your preference. (This is going to bug me now, I'll root around on theoryland, see what i can dig up, but i think it was on here) As for the topic, I'm not sure she will, but I'd say if she did, it'd be towards late book, or even as far as it would be in the 4th book (maybe even never). I'm more interested in what it could be than anything. What else is she denying!! Edited July 13, 2015 by ParadoxSpren
maxal
I think the WoB you are looking for is the one stating "Plate was available to all Radiants, but not all chose to use it".

Shardbearer
Someone will be getting the Plate in SA3, I'm sure. Seems too basic a part of the KR of old to leave for any later in the series than that.
Botanica
Here is the WoB: QUESTION Did all orders of Knights Radiants use Shardplate? BRANDON SANDERSON It was available to all of them, and they could (all) use it. Many Knights (not Orders) chose not to. There were Knights who were not soldiers and had not interest in wearing Shardplate. soulcastJam
I'm expecting that when Shallan gets her plate she will taunt Adolin because she can just make her bottom plate disappear. Easier to go #2.
Patrick Star
On that note, what is shardplate anyway? too many theories. Well, it possesses an odd mix of amorphous and crystalline properties. As was discussed in an earlier thread that I started named "Falling in Shardplate", it has to be a lot more than a powered exoskeleton, as it seems to cause the person inside to be stronger/more resilient. It's probably some sort of ancient fabrial.
Shardbearer
I'm fond of the theory that says shardplate is formed by lots of spren that are "cousins" to the Nahel spren forming around the surgebinder. Like how Kaladin had a lot of windspren around him, or Shallan has a tendency to attract creationspren.

Like how Kaladin had a lot of windspren around him, or Shallan has a tendency to attract creationspren. I definitely agree, which brings to mind an amazing visual image. I've always imagined Kaladin saying his fifth (or whichever one applies) oath with windscreen swirling around him, and having them suddenly coalesce into glowing Shardplate. I just realize… Shallan might need to draw hers, or at least visualize it, and the creation spren would form themselves around her as her plate at that point! Could be really awesome, and I imagine hers would have to look stunning (while Kaladin's will be more practical looking, probably, though with some awesome wind-inspired form to it). jW

Perhaps the radiants own aura of stormlight powers it. Didnt the happen when kaladin had the helmet on his hand?

The gemstones are a substitute for an invested radiant.
