TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 My Twi, I see your shipping senses are tingling. I'm mildly ashamed to say I hadn't even thought of shipping in this case.
Edgedancer he/him Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I'm mildly ashamed to say I hadn't even thought of shipping in this case. You weren't? Well now I'm baffled. What did you think about?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 You weren't? Well now I'm baffled. What did you think about? The Magical Native American trope. The phrasing made me wonder, though I know it could have been referring to something else, which is why I asked.
Edgedancer he/him Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 The Magical Native American trope. You mean magical hawaiian surfer that gains his magic by stripping and has probably drawn the ire of Arsenal? 2
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 You mean magical hawaiian surfer that gains his magic by stripping and has probably drawn the ire of Arsenal? No, but I'm filing that one under "STUFF THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN DEAR CALAMITY WHY HAS THIS NOT HAPPENED YET." 1
Edgedancer he/him Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 No, but I'm filing that one under "STUFF THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN DEAR CALAMITY WHY HAS THIS NOT HAPPENED YET." Well, it may happen soon. Otherwise, you know what to do.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Well, it may happen soon. Otherwise, you know what to do. I do indeed. Only....The Dalles has too many Epics. Oh well. Looks like this surfer will just have to be a vanilla who wanders past Arsenal for the sole purpose of shouting "COWABUNGA, FREAKY BRO!!!" while tearing off his shirt. 2
mail-mi he/him Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 KOBOLD WHY ARE YOU SADNESS STOP MESSING WITH MY MIND!?!?!? Pay me no mind.

Well Obliteration will be in town at some point.... thin out the numbers a bit?
Kobold King he/him Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 KOBOLD WHY ARE YOU SADNESS STOP MESSING WITH MY MIND!?!?!? Pay me no mind. Just a visual reminder that I'm melancholy. Just in case people wonder why my prose is flatter and my manner is more subdued than usual.
Kobold King he/him Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 To get back to our bargain one last time: I suppose you were talking about Voidgaze and Baxter here? Yep. Voidgaze would love to be friends with Sam, I'm sure, but Sam still thinks she's a monster in disguise just waiting to murder her the second Funtimes' back is turned. I think Sam would make for a pretty good helper at Game's clinic, as she can be a hard worker if she wants to be.

Granted, the chances of that happening in canon is rather low, so she'll have to do with the sheep in (imaginary) monster clothing.

Edgedancer he/him Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 There's no saying Sam can never wind up in The Dalles. And from there, who knows? Thanks. Well, she already has one place she'd be welcomed at, so give it your best shoot. Also is it just me or does Baxter seem to have an almost uncanny ability to get on the good side of young female charaters? I mean Scribbler and MV in practice and Sam and Voidgaze in theory should they get ever get to the Dalles... Now that I think about it, given how long she's been an Epic Voidgaze probably doesn't even look her already rather young 20 years and more like Sam's age, maybe even younger. Don't worry, we're here for you.

Don't worry, we're here for you. He does have a sort of fatherly way about him. Definitely the sort of presence that puts people at ease. A teenager with the power to blow things up. Even though she's sweet, I can kind of see how Sam would find that unnerving.

My consideration was more in a meta way that it always happens to be female characters. Yeah, I can see how that would be unnerving, I mean how many normal teenager have temper tantrums (even though she still doesn't explode things ). But to be honest I was more worried about the relationship with Big Al, I think it would be best to assume she told him about her actual age off-screen.

Then again, Deathwish and Arsenal skew things a bit. I doubt Sam would care about the difference. But yeah, I hadn't thought about Al.

But yeah, I hadn't thought about Al. Again true... looking back on it, for the longest time he may have been the only likable male chracter in the threat, not counting Vondra, who wasn't really exsistent until later on. More may follow after the new dawn. (Yes, I'm not counting Backtrack, why do you ask? ) And suddenly one of the most adorable couples in the game became somewhat awkward. Eh, damages already sone, I guess Al just doesn't mind her looking young.

Considering the kinds of relationships we have in this game in other corners of Oregon, a young adult dating a consenting teenager is pretty wholesome. Add to the fact that she's not even a teenager, and it's hardly that big a deal.

It's not that I ever though it that big a deal, I'm just tipping the idea around in my head, given that I never considered it before.

It's not that I ever though it that big a deal, I'm just tipping the idea around in my head, given that I never considered it before. Depends on how you look at it, I suppose. There are some aspects of it that make it seem shady—like the fact Voidgaze looks younger than she is—but it doesn't change the fact that it's 1) consensual on both sides and 2) has a much healthier dynamic than many other relationships in this game.

It's not that I ever though it that big a deal, I'm just tipping the idea around in my head, given that I never considered it before. Well... putting on my counter-culture hat for a minute, there's sort of a stigma attached these days to relationships where one party is older than the other. The stigma exists for reasons, but these reasons ultimately seem to boil down to the gaps in maturity and the potential for abuse from the older individual. It's worth pointing out that some primitive societies see marriages with an age gap as par the course. While a thirty year-old man marrying a twelve year-old is disturbing no matter how you look at it, in some societies it's perfectly acceptable for a twenty year-old to marry a sixteen year-old so long as elder family members as long as it's consensual and family elders are keeping a watchful eye on the couple. Big Al has been a complete gentleman to Rita thus far, with their relationship extremely wholesome even by real-world standards. Heck, even the stiffest seniors at my church probably wouldn't disapprove too much of the relationship given there's been no hanky-panky going on behind the scenes. Even if Rita were a few years younger I for one wouldn't feel too strongly about terminating the relationship, and as it is I think it's completely, 100% acceptable.
Blackhoof Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Well in regards to Voidgaze's age vs her appearance, we could make the argument that the Epic slow ageing process only affects adults? Ageing is just damage after all past a certain point, so maybe she ages normally until she reaches full physical maturity (20-25?) and then she starts ageing slowly like other Epics? Do at the moment, she looks her actual age. @Tyson: Iconoclast's plans involve traveling around the city, ghoulifying groups of randoms and letting them run amok.
