KevinTheHerdazian
I didn't want to necro a discussion, So I wanted to know how you all think of how they were created. By Cultivation? Or just naturally appeared through selection? How big do you all actually think they are? I always thought that Ryshadium would be about 2 feet taller than a normal horse. How about y'all? Curious Anamaximder
Ryshadium are more than ordinary horses. There is a WoB from Brandon that every Knight needs a sword ( Shardblade) armor (Shardplate) and a horse. Personally I think that Ryshadium have a spren bond or more innate Investiture. Unknowingly
As much as i hate to use the explanation,"Magic did it!" I think that in this case it will have something to do with investiture. Maybe they have some sort of symbiotic relationship with a spren, sort of like the Great Shells and their spren?

hoser
Horses interbreeding with Parshendi. Apparently their genome is quite adaptable.
Oudeis
Truthwatchers and Edgedancers wanted better horses; over the course of generations several skilled in a specific use of Progression manipulated horses in utero to make them smarter, stronger, faster, bigger.
Arook
Forced Spren bonding using implanted gemstones that permanently changed the breed now they breed true and have gem hearts.
Windreader
I imagine Ryshadium as somewhere between 19 and 21 hands tall, or between 6'4" to 7'. I don't really know how they were formed, but I'd say it involves spren or investure Edited June 10, 2015 by Windreader
InstantWalrus
I like to think theyre "horses" in the same way that parrots are "chickens" so theyre not necessaraly even remotely like horses just big four legged things without a shell that people ride on. oh and everyone knows that any radiant can summon one permanently as a companion when they hit lvl 5 about the time they get their second use of smite evil/day you know just before the first use of cure disease
Crystin Radiant
I always figured they were about the size of a Clydesdale. I've never really given thought to how they came about, but they are an anomaly on Roshar. I like the idea about spren... Maybe they occure when a spren bonds with a horse? Now I really want to know. LabRat
I like the idea about spren... Maybe they occure when a spren bonds with a horse? Now I really want to know. Except they breed true, or at least people seem to think they do. If they were caused by Spren-bonds, normal horses would transform into Ryshadium. IF a Spren-bond is involved, then it means past horses Bonded and (some of) the sDNA alterations were Hereditary (like Lighteyes). Note this would mean that a true Spren-bonded horse would have additional powers we have not seen.
Crystin Radiant
That's what I'm thinking. It was said that the Radiants first had Rashydium, but thinking on it, (and I know his isn't true for all, but for some orders at least) why would they want a horse. A Windrunner could just "fly" places, an Elsecaller could simply teleport, and Edgedancers could get places faster by using their surge of abrasion to make things— in Lift's terms— "slick". Thus being said, Ryshadium seem redundant if they are just super inteligent, gigantic horses. I think there are more to the Ryshadium than we've seen. Kaladin doesn't trust horses because he thinks they're alien, and he describes Adolin's Ryshadium as a "monster" so maybe what we're seeing is similar to the dead shardblades. Of course, this is wild speculation with no real evidence, and I have a near 100% chance of being wrong, but who knows?
LabRat
He seemed respectful of the horse that threw him. I suspect his distrust of horses is either plain old fear of the odd/unknown, or it has more to do with the fact that Roshone likely had one or more. LabRat
As for uses for Ryshadium, let's use Lift as an example. Lift's "slick" ability only allows her to go noteably fast when she's moving downwards, so Gravity can accelerate her. Over flat ground her speed is limited to her max speed, but she's able to easily maintain speed once she's accelerated, and being "Slick" would have no advantage I can see when moving uphill. Now stick her on a horse, and have her horse be Slick as well. Uphill movement is much faster and easier, movement on flat ground is faster, and movement downhill is not slowed. maxal
Careful. Brandon said the Rhysadiums were not exclusive to the Radiants... The Radiants used them, but they did not have ownership over them. This specific WoB also implied non-Radiants could be Rhysadium riders. Kaladin, Kaladin is just scared of horses: he can't be perfect RIP Sureblood
