Kestrel she/her Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 (edited) Current book : The Eye of the World Chapter: 19 Okay so I'm doing a liveblog sort of thing. I've started Wheel of Time. I was already doing this on Tumblr and thought hey! The Shard might enjoy my ramblings/horribly thought of jokes about the story so here I am. I'll try to update this a lot but it might not happen. I'll try to keep things professional. No guarantee. This will also have spoilers. SO FAR. Its pretty dang good. The prologue was a bit of a what the heck sort of reaction but that's a common thing in epic fantasy so I'm gonna ignore the reaction it sprang in me. I seriously like Rand. Someone on Tumblr called him Randy Dandy so guess what my name is for him now. Thanks tumblr user Jasnah-Kholin. Okay but the "become one with the void." Okay Tam calm down. Rand too, while we're at it. Also a character named Wit. I screamed. Wit no. Hoid stop. Did I mention that I like Mat? Okay while we're at it I like all the characters so far. And now we're at chapter two (sorry I'm skimming my sparse notes that I already made on Tumblr) and let me just say this why are all the women so short. I mean I can relate to this book because of that but really. Not sure what chapter this happened (3?? 4?? I never kept track) and now they've been attacked by the angry furries. Wolf things. The enemies in this book are interesting. I'm kinda glad that Tam survived. I'd be sad if he died. But I think he will just for the record. I'm on chapter 12 now. They just left the Two Rivers place and are running from the shadow creatures. Edited June 10, 2015 by LarkoftheRiver 3
KamorianKandra he/him Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Cool. I just finished Eye of the World. I'm on to the Great Hunt now.
king of nowhere Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 welcome to the club. Just a quick note, the women you've met until now (egwene, nynaeve, moiraine) are all short, but there are plenty of tall ones in further books.
Kestrel she/her Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 I identify with the short ones I understand I have friends who are like Rand height and I'm like really really. Now then Chapter 16 I keep forgetting to update this with my Tumblr so I'm actually on chapter 19 uhh. This is the last tumblr update. The weird dreams keep happening. I feel so bad for poor randy. Please I just want him to be happy. But like they hate to tell Moiraine. I'm confused. I think they SHOULD. If she was gonna hurt them, she would have done so already. Ge guys. Pls. Also, I don't trust Min just throwing that out there. 1
Renarin's Shadow Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 But like they hate to tell Moiraine. I'm confused. I think they SHOULD. If she was gonna hurt them, she would have done so already. Ge guys. Pls. Yes, that's a theme of the dangers of prejudice, not knowing whom to trust, that runs right through the book. About to start The Great Hunt.
Kestrel she/her Posted September 5, 2015 Author Posted September 5, 2015 Well I forgot about this go me I'm on dragon reborn right now
TySun he/him Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I myself didn't really trust moiraine when I first began reading the series about 5 years ago. But maybe it was just Rands suspicion rubbing off on me. I am rereading the series again. I started about six weeks ago and I'm halfway through book 9. Audiobooks at work are mostly responsible for my fast pace. I can't always listen but when I can, I do.
Kestrel she/her Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 Honestly if I had the audiobook it would be easier, as I like to do other things like draw or mess around on Flight Rising while listening to books/music.
WayneSpren he/him Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I am reading WoT for the Sanderson books at the end. On book 4 right now.
Kestrel she/her Posted October 18, 2015 Author Posted October 18, 2015 On book 4 (wow this died) Honestly still crossing my fingers for Lan and Nynaeve and Perrin/Faile? 10/10 yes
DSC01 he/him Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I think The Shadow Rising might be my favorite. Things do actually get cooler later on, but book 4 is when the greater world really opened up, for me.
The Sovereign Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 On book 4 (wow this died) Honestly still crossing my fingers for Lan and Nynaeve and Perrin/Faile? 10/10 yes Shadow Rising is also the beginning of Mat just being the best character in the series (this is a fact, not a debatable opinion...). Prepare yourself. 2
TySun he/him Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Shadow Rising is also the beginning of Mat just being the best character in the series (this is a fact, not a debatable opinion...). Prepare yourself. I agree 100%. Didn't like Mat half as much early on, but he defenitly became my faverive around book 4. 1
The Sovereign Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) On book 4 (wow this died) Honestly still crossing my fingers for Lan and Nynaeve and Perrin/Faile? 10/10 yes So where are you now on this Lark? Edited October 27, 2015 by Iron Eyes
Kestrel she/her Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Finished book five, after many grumbles. About 20% through book six. But I bought myself a copy of New Spring and was leafing through it and i found the scene where Lan throws Moiraine into the pond. You know that feel when you bypass laughter and go straight to crying That was me This scene begs to be animated. 2
The Sovereign Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 The end of book 6 is top 3 scenes in the series in my opinion. Also just wait, the Lan related tears will flow later... but it is good. 1
Kestrel she/her Posted December 24, 2015 Author Posted December 24, 2015 Tears of joy or tears of sorrow or tears of laughter They are all different.
The One Who Reads he/him Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Tears of joy or tears of sorrow or tears of laughter They are all different. The first two started blurring together for me in the last book, but don't worry there is like two reasonably sized book series between you and that.
The Sovereign Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Tears of joy or tears of sorrow or tears of laughter They are all different. As The One Who Reads basically said it is a bit of each.
Kestrel she/her Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 Oh dear. So I'm starting to enjoy Lord of Choas. Egwene as Amyrlin is great and Mat getting the crap kicked out of him by Nynaeve. Oh my. Also way to go Rand, snitching on Loial. He was your friend you piece of chull dung and you know he didn't want to go back. You. You. 1
KaIadin he/him Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I think you will hate Rand in the last few books until aMoL in which you will begin to hate him again in the epilogue. 1
Kestrel she/her Posted January 4, 2016 Author Posted January 4, 2016 Rand has his cringy moments But Idk if I'll ever hate him because honestly he reminds me of me
Argent he/him Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I find Rand's journey... satisfying. There are books in which I progressively hate his character more and more, but the overall journey works well for me.
Kestrel she/her Posted January 4, 2016 Author Posted January 4, 2016 Same, I feel that. I read a scene and I go "why did you do that" and then I stop and go "wait. That's literally what I would do." Sometimes his character got annoying but he's becoming more satisfying to read.
Argent he/him Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 It's not quite what I meant, but you have a few more books before I can elaborate without spoiling anything. 1
