Chaos he/him Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 In case you didn't know, Brandon tweeted that the Alcatraz movie option has not been renewed.
Chaos he/him Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 I was never sure how Dreamworks would adapt it, anyways, but it would've been spectacular for Alcatraz to get more public awareness, at the very least. 1
Arrowlyn she/her Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Alcatraz would be a hard, nearly impossible, book to adapt well, IMO. The best part about it is the quirky narrator and all the tongue-in-cheek humor. It probably would have turned out like the Percy Jackson movie, where they stripped out all the humor to make it a more serious action movie to appeal to a wider audience. It's probably better this way... 2
Zas678 he/him Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 But just think of the theme song! (starts playing Cake) I want a hero with a mind of sarcasm I want a hero who breaks what's best I want a hero whose Talent breaks And Eyes that burn like cigarettes I want a hero with the right bag of sand Who's fast and thorough and sharp as a Gak He's playing with his Lenses He's breaking some swords He's touring the library And picking up books I want a hero with pink glasses and a greeeeeeen jacket. 4
sorkinfan Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Oh Holy God, I thought you meant that the series as a whole had just been dropped and I was about ready to kill people. I remember picking up the first Alactraz book in my mock newbery club thinking it would be the stupidest thing ever and absolutely falling in love with it(as did everyone else who read it) if the publisher dropped it I would have felt like all hope and happiness in the world had been dropped too. 1
Zas678 he/him Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Umm... actually Scholastic won't be publishing the (still unwritten) fifth book. Brandon says he still plans on writing it, and that he'll find another publisher (which will likely be Tor). But it won't be Scholastic (which isn't the worst thing in the world....)
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I'm glad Scholastic is doing them anymore. Those covers make it pretty clear that they don't care. Since, you know, the covers are AWFUL.

Thank goodness he still plans to continue writing the series! I've only just finished Book 1, and I intend to hunt down the rest of them now. It's such a fun book!
HiccupGreyjoy Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Dreamworks must be under serious Librarian influence! I´ve completed the first book today. It surely helped me with some moments of depression. I am looking forward to Scrivener´s Bones. 1
Ryan he/him Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Umm... actually Scholastic won't be publishing the (still unwritten) fifth book. Brandon says he still plans on writing it, and that he'll find another publisher (which will likely be Tor). But it won't be Scholastic (which isn't the worst thing in the world....) I know this is a necropost, but I asked Brandon about this recently, and he said that Tor wants Alcatraz 5. So, there's that.
Commander Spoonface he/him Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I wouldn't want to watch an Alcatraz movie, unless they had an actual voice over narrator with a less annoying voice than the kid who reads for the audiobooks.
Aeshdan he/him Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I think Alcatraz picked an annoying voice on purpose. Remember, the entire point of these books is to convince us that he's not a nice person.
Commander Spoonface he/him Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I think Alcatraz picked an annoying voice on purpose. Remember, the entire point of these books is to convince us that he's not a nice person. Listening to three hours (about the reading time of the first) of that voice can cause internal hemorrhaging. There ought to be an FDA warning on the cassette. 1
Strawberry Eggs she/her Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Eh, not really a big deal, though it would have been a big way to introduce others to the series. I am glad that book 5 is still planned. The audiobook's narrator has grown on me. It's not good, I just don't think it's that irritating.
Rahmuss Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I liked the narrator's voice as well. And it's funny because you can hear him slightly laughing during some of his readings. Very funny books.
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 By the way, the current audiobook version is not the original. Scholastic put out just the first book in audio. Later, Recorded Books put out a new version of the first book and the other three books. That is the one that is currently available.
Ete'ni Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Personally I think that Alcatraz would be easier book for adaptation. Espeacially if they focus on Talents and breaking things. THat'd be hillarious.
Mark Adrian Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I wish someone else would buy the rights. I think that it getting more public attention would be good, and I would watch the movie if it came out. I hope it wouldn't be animated though.
