That short story Brandon posted for the dialogue exercise was pretty dang funny. "You're making Mother Nature cry." That dragon was awesome. Of course, it's a little forced, but it's a writing exercise, so that's not surprising.

I don't know of a story where a dragon commits suicide...

I agree. Brilliant! More favorites:

"Funny. I have lots of time. I could sit here all day, so long as it involves not being eaten."

"What is it you eat, again?"

"Cows. Pigs. Carrots. Very few wolves."

"I . . . uh . . . don't get invited to parties very often."

I love finding short stories in all dialog.  It's the ultimate in leaving almost everything to the imagination.

Where might this gem be posted? It sounds good from the comments but I haven't heard of it.

Well, if there's a better cue to link to our 17th Shard mirror of Brandon's blog, I don't know what is.

You can find it here:

Could be Peter. He's logged into Brandon's account once before.

Dang it! I need to write more. That was amazing for just dialogue. Though did anyone else who's played Portal 2 imagine Mr. Johnston's voice being the same as

? It's only one letter, and it's so perfect!

He's definitely done a bit of worldbuilding since we last saw that story.

I dunno how I feel about it. I mean, I feel like it's kind a build up to a bigger story, and I'm not sure I want him working on that at the moment :).

Yes, I've been rereading the WoT recently. Why do you ask?

I love this story. I want to see what becomes of it. Last night when my little sister wanted a bedtime story, this is what she got. :D .

DEFINITELY a bit of worldbuilding since we last saw it. I'm intrigued as to what the dawnfaces and sixthfaces(?) are referring to. And what's Skip's third knack!? Cliffhanger?! NOOOOOOOO!

Goshdangit, Brandon, why must you right so many things I want more of at the same time! I can't decide what I want more of!

Oh, the extended version is the one I read on timewastersguide. I was a bit confused about the knack thing as well, is there a 3rd unlisted one, or should we consider hearing punctuation and spelling as two different ones?

Theory: Skip is wrong about smelling delicious to dragons as a separate knack though. The dragons have to eat humans for their magic potential/ability, it's why animals won't satisfy them. Consider human magical ability to be for dragons as Vitamin C is for humans, it can't be synthesized by the body, but it's still necessary for survival. So basically, Skip has a lot of magic in him, whether it's an undiscovered or undeveloped ability, or whether the magic system in the world in heavily based off of speech, I'm not sure.

Would be interesting to read more of this if Brandon feels like writing more of it.

This world is shaped like a cube. The faces are exactly that, the six sides of the world. It's mentioned somewhere in the dialogue with the sorceress.

And I believe Skip's ability to hear punctuation and spelling fits under the umbrella of Medium Awareness.

One problem: I heard myself misspelling words a couple of weeks back. So either this is a real human ability or (far more probable) we're in a fantasy book.

Ah, but can you hear other people misspelling words?

Even better: Can you hear other people using the wrong spelling of homophones? Because I'm pretty sure that popped up, and yes, it is quite magical.

Theory alert!
So, when I first read this, my first thought was that Skip's third knack was tripping and that this was set in the Alcatraz-verse. The sorceress would be a future Librarian looking for Glass, the knacks are the same as Talents...

I think smelling good should be a talent. He could rival Alcatraz ;)

Also, here is another connection. knights radiant have access to three abilities. You could call him a Knight Knack.
