Zas678 he/him Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 So what is up with Syl and Kaladin? Is Syl a very special windspren? Is Kaladin a special person? Or is there some sort of connection to them? Why does Syl exist in the Cognitive Realm, where most windspren don't? What do you guys think?
Chaos he/him Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Obviously Syl is known is Awesome, or Awesomespren. Oh, wait. That's not what you were looking for. Hmmm. I'm afraid I do not qualify to join in this discussion 1
LadyArianna she/her Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 zas678, I have your answer, but it be spoilerized... ++++ SPOILERS ALL UP IN HERE ++++ ++++ You've been warned! ++++ ++++ HERE THAR BE SPOILERS ++++ Your answer is in chapter 67 (page 913 of the ARC version of tWoK). Kaladin is faced with the decision to either escape Sadeas' slavery with his men, or turn around and save Dalinar Kholin and his army from certain death. As he's about to run away, Syl finally 'remembers' what kind of spren she is: "I bond things, Kaladin," she said, turning and meeting his eyes. "I am honorspren. Spirit of oaths. Of promises. And of nobility." I believe this explains why she was able to play pranks on him by sticking things together early in the book. It's looking like any of the supposed "windspren" who play similar pranks are actually "honorspren" who don't remember who they are, but this supposition could be incorrect. Hope that helps! 1
Swifftalon Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I liked the Awesomespren explination better... 1
LadyArianna she/her Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I liked the Awesomespren explination better... Syl is awesome, though. I have "My own spren" on my Christmas list already 1
Nehex he/him Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Swiffy's right. I want an awesomespren now....
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Well, if Syl doesn't count directly as an Awesomespren (being the kind of spren denoted in the spoiler) lets come up with what an actual Awesomespren would be and what kind of things cause it to appear. 1
Deano Stormblessed he/him Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 zas678, I have your answer, but it be spoilerized... ++++ SPOILERS ALL UP IN HERE ++++ ++++ You've been warned! ++++ ++++ HERE THAR BE SPOILERS ++++ Your answer is in chapter 67 (page 913 of the ARC version of tWoK). Hope that helps! *Spoilers continued* I so didn't think about that. It would make sense that the windspren are just unbound honorspren, riding the wind to try and find someone to bond to. But does that mean that there are no such things as windspren, or cant people just not tell the difference between a windspren and honorspren?
Chaos he/him Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Well, going from the Pokemon analogy, honorspren are just evolved windspren. ...Okay, maybe the Pokemon analogies can get out of hand. More importantly, how does an honorspren (or, like Deano suggests, a windspren) bind with a person?

More importantly, how does an honorspren (or, like Deano suggests, a windspren) bind with a person? I think the bond exists on a spiritual level. I know Brandon has mentioned that the spirit realm is part of the magic systems of the Cosmere, though I don't fully understand what that means.

True… but did we need to resurrect a 6 year old thread to point that out? EDIT: I didn't even know about the Cosmere or Brandon Sanderson 6 years ago. jW Edited September 5, 2016 by Jondesu 3
Sand Master Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I saw this in the more recent topics in the thread and thought "well clearly this person (OP) hasn't read WoR." Then I saw the date it was posted. 1
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Ditto! I'm really eager to see how much more we learn once Oathbringer comes out...
