Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted December 27, 2010 Author Posted December 27, 2010 Dropping Base Form abilities comes from the fact that the evolution process is less about actually empowering the Form as much as changing it. I want to keep the focus for which Forms are better as who has the greatest range of Forms and who can best apply those abilities rather than who has the most evolved Forms. While evolving Forms does make them more powerful, yes, that's not the point of it.
Cuaiir he/him Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 So, my first post on here after weeks of trolling and my first RPG... should be interesting, if this ever gets off the ground. Here's to hoping. My goal with the guy was to poke around in the world and find out how stuff works. The first thing that jumped out at me was the Electric Oasis and it's central pillar. I'm interested, not gonna lie. Username: cuaiir Contact: PM, or [email protected] Character Name:Jay
Emeralis00 she/her Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 @cuaiir. Nice, wildmages. It would be interesting to see how you do the mage prices.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted January 1, 2011 Author Posted January 1, 2011 @cuaiir This is great stuff. I love how you've integrated different aspects of the world into you character. Your Forms are good, and you beat me to making the Feruchemical Grid (but I fully endorse it, it's an awesome picture). Questions. What did you have in mind for Mageprices? What is the relationship between what is found (scale, size, difficulty, importance, type of thing, etc) and what the price is? Basically explain the whole concept for me and how you think they should play out. Is there anything I should know about his eyes, what with the color change, and where did the note come from in your RP sample? If these are spoilers for your character's arc, you can PM me the answers. Also, in your Engineer description, you said that the abilities work by firing drones. This makes sense, but I didn't see that in Mass Effect. Can you give me a link to confirm this? @Eerongal About the Paladin Form. I'm not wanting to nerf it, I want to consolidate it. Its relationship to the Warrior (and also the White Mage) is something that I think should be expressed as its powerset is very similar to those. You have its evolution be straight up power boosting, which is not what this magic system is really about. I addressed this in a change I made to the Story Topic, check that out. I want you to rewrite the Paladin as a single Form, creating a balance in its abilities. I'm looking at this Form as having three major abilities: melee combat (w/hammer vs Warrior's sword, possibly as a compromise with the White Mage's staff), healing, and holy magic (this could also place it as a variation on the Black Mage, focusing on a particular kind of offensive magic, I know you didn't write it into the original application but it's a fairly standard Paladin ability across fiction, unless you're building off of a specific style of it, in which case let me know). Let me know if this is okay with you. I'm trying to help you find the right character balance so that it integrates into the framework. I also noticed that the Tactician Form seems to do this as well, can you do the same for that? If you feel I'm being difficult, I'm sorry, I've never done this before so bear with me. @Emeralis00 Similar to what I asked cuaiir about Mageprices, can you explain the Geass ability to me? I would also like you consolidate your Smoke Braider/Smoke Twist Forms so that they fit better. An alternative to this would be to have variations on the Smoke Braider with different effects either in the mold of the Misting Form with different types of the same Form, or the Spectre approach by having evolved, specialized versions of it. Everyone, various changes to the application, Story Topic and Data Topic have been or are about to be made. Please look over these. They revolve around making things clearer about how the magic works and making things easier to understand for someone perusing the topic. Changes to your applications will need to be made, but I promise that this is the last time. We finally have enough people to start and I don't want to take too long to get to the story. I have plans and story arcs that planned that I hope you enjoy. (nothing too specific, I've read Darths and Droids) And Happy New Year!

I was actually considering taking the map in the story topic and making it look more

Emeralis00 she/her Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 @cuaiir Don't forget that the more specific the spell is, the heavier the mageprice. @Silus Geass works similar to hypnotism; I would walk up to a person and say while using Geass " you will open the gate for me and forget that you opened the gate." then the victim carries out the command. However, I would not be able to do that again, to the same person, even if the command is a different one. It is also similar to the Jedi mind tricks from Star Wars; "These aren't the droids you are looking for". EDIT: here is a good example of Geass being abused (2:00 minutes in). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LX9HmM7UHH4

Changes in the Data Topic to reflect updated Forms have already been made for the Forms I wrote, and will be made for the others once I receive updated Form entries from you. After that we'll talk a bit about how to start this. General note about Form appearances, when creating an original Form you essentially have to write two: one for everyone that uses the Form and one for your character specifically. If you're using an already made Form than you only have to write the second one.
Cuaiir he/him Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 @cuaiir Don't forget that the more specific the spell is, the heavier the mageprice. I totally did forget
Emeralis00 she/her Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 @cuaiir I suggest an imagehosting site. They often have a copy and paste link called direct link. Just paste it into your post and when someone goes to that link it opens a new page with that picture.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 I'll get you the PM once I look over the map again and take down notes for you. There are ways to bypass the stationary rule, but they require special items. Plus it requires a bit more strategic thinking. I've made a change regarding the Baseline, check the Story Topic under Magic in the Spheremount and Baseline entries. I hope that works for you. It's good that you're thinking of those kind of combination abilities, makes it so I have think about what's a good challenge for you. The Mageprice thing looks good. I'll update things later, but for now, cuaiir, consider yourself APPROVED.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Alrighty! Now that Eero's application has been updated, it's time to talk about how we're going to start this! Questions: Do you guys want to be together in a party or separate? Where are you going to start out? And that's really about it. Let me know and we can GET IT ON!
Emeralis00 she/her Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Alrighty! Now that Eero's application has been updated, it's time to talk about how we're going to start this! Questions: Do you guys want to be together in a party or separate? Where are you going to start out? And that's really about it. Let me know and we can GET IT ON! Personally, I think that we should start out seperately and role-play to meet each other. That way those of us who have never done this before can practice without messing up any major part of the story. (and I have a few lines I want to say when I meet them )
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 That's what I meant, I meant do you want to be together at all.
Eerongal he/him Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 i have no problem starting separate and coming together for some story/RP reason. Also, i have no real preference for starting location.
Cuaiir he/him Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I wouldn't mind meeting up with everyone. Due to the way my character's backstory is laid out, I sort of have to start out in the Machine Desert, though.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Alright, so where is everyone going to start and where are you meeting? It would also be good to figure out why your characters will be traveling together and for what purpose.
Emeralis00 she/her Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I'm starting out in Bridgetown as that is my back-story goal. I suggest Crook of the Plains as the meeting point because it is kind of center to our current back-story locations. (and I want to fight some thieves)
Cuaiir he/him Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Agreed to Crook of the Plains as a meeting place. I'll start out with one of the wandering tribes of the Machine Desert. As to why we're traveling together... well, it could be a Mageprice for a Finding spell... More likely, Jay'el cast Finding for a way to make Spheremounts like the ancients, and that was his Mageprice: go to CotP and sit in certain inn, or some such. Seems a bit contrived, but hey.
Emeralis00 she/her Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Oh. I forgot the reason why for traveling together. Well, traveling with the others could be a self-challenge set by my character. I don't know why yet but that was the plan.
Eerongal he/him Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Crook of the Plains works for me as a meeting space. As far as where i start, since it is in the middle of the other two, and works with my back story (wanderer helping those who need help) starting at crook of the plains works well, too, considering it's the largest of the crime areas it says. As for reason, it doensn't matter to me, since it's pretty easy justifying helping out the group when my character story focuses on helping out those who need it.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 I have a pretty good way to get some action going that'll get you guys going in the same direction. Hopefully. We'll see how it plays out. So I guess we'll start...who wants to go first?
Eerongal he/him Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I have a pretty good way to get some action going that'll get you guys going in the same direction. Hopefully. We'll see how it plays out. So I guess we'll start...who wants to go first? one of the players was completely new to roleplaying, right? I'd say start with them to get them a little quick experience on their own for a bit, and to not slow down the game as much once the other characters have gotten involved.
Cuaiir he/him Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 one of the players was completely new to roleplaying, right? That's me! I'd say start with them to get them a little quick experience on their own for a bit, and to not slow down the game as much once the other characters have gotten involved. I'm willing, just give me a situation and I'll do what I can.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Alright, we'll start cuaiir, but that doesn't mean you guys should sit on the bench. We'll pick out something to start for each of you go from there. @cuaiir You said JL is traveling with one of the wandering desert tribes? Well, let's start with that. I'll post something to start you off. @Emeralis00 Why is Ambro in Bridge Town? @Eerongal Looks like you've got some time to kill before Ambro and JL get to the Crook, did you have anything in particular for him to do or should I give you something? I can have you work on the lead-in to what I have in mind for getting the group together. (Hint: it involves the mob. Fun times.)
