i just read Elantris for the first time and I was looking for a new book. I was trying to decide between the Emperors Soul and The Alloy of Law. I read the Mistborn trilogy before Elantris. All of that preface to ask, without too many spoilers, are the Emperor's Soul and Elantris in the same storyline?

They take place on the same planet so there are a couple easter eggs (such as references to countries and an Aon) but storywise there is noting in common between the two.

I actually never noticed any similarity between the two until somebody mentioned it on the forum.  The magics don't even seem to be the same.  Argh!  Guess I'll have to go and read them again. :( Luckily, that is not too much of a burden. ^_^

I haven't read it yet, but from what I've seen others say the "Stamp" that has to be made is actually a representation of the local landmass, like how an Aon is a drawing of the local lands.

Same magic, same basic access method (draw land forms), but completely different method and result.

It is also highly dependent on and influenced by the modifications added to the base pattern. You can quite literally program a whole human mind into the stamp, like you can do specified healing with aons or how aon teleportation requires precise vector coordinates.

. . . yeah I think Shai just built an AI from scratch. That's impressive.

The "finishing mark" that Shai carves into her stamps is a Dor-representation of her homeland, MaiPon.

Beyond that, the continent of Sycla is mentioned, Jindo is mentioned as a people who are very phenotypically similar to Shai's fellow MaiPonese, books in Svordish are mentioned.  I believe that's all of them.
