DSC01 he/him Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 That's not impossible, but I doubt it. In the second letter, Frost (presumably) writes to Hoid: The worlds you now tread bear the touch and design of Adonalsium. Our interference so far has brought nothing but pain. I don't see him saying that to someone who could respond that he was Adonalsium, and he doesn't want to hear about what kind of mess he might make, since he knows exactly what that touch and design entails.
FormlessFox he/him Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 In one of the responses to the letter it says "“He bears the weight of God’s own divine hatred, separated from the virtues that gave it context. He is what we made him to be, old friend. And that is what he, unfortunately, wished to become.” What he wished to become could mean there was some foresight into the shattering. Perhaps the 16 thought themselves more compassionate than the distant one all powerful and split it assuming they would be better gods. He is what we made him to be could indicate the other shardholders drove Rayse to do something drastic shattering Adnolasium in order to ontain the Odium shard. The others could have picked up the remaining shards to keep the balance. 1
Stormgate he/him Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 The theory of Hoid holding Adonalsium is one I have had floating around in my head for a while.
Voidus Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 It does beg the question of what happened to the previous holder of Adonalsium though, since Hoid obviously didn't make himself. (Though I wouldn't put it past him to try)

The others could have picked up the remaining shards to keep the balance. I believe Rayse was satisfied with taking up Odium - "what he wished to become". I imagine Ati wasn't happy about turning into godlike force of destruction, but Rayse was more than glad about being God Of Hatred. "He is what we made him to be" may refer to the fact that there was a plan to Shatter Adonalsium or they chose Rayse as possible Shardholder. Or maybe it just means that it's a consequence of their deeds, which caused Shattering and ultimately Rayse taking up Odium. It does beg the question of what happened to the previous holder of Adonalsium though, since Hoid obviously didn't make himself. (Though I wouldn't put it past him to try) Well... I began life as a thought, a concept, words on a page. That was another thing I stole. Myself. Another time, I was named for a rock.

I was thinking if Rayse took Odium first and then Ati takes the bullet for the team by taking Ruin because someone had to. They could not leave Ruin unheld and up for grabs. 1
clyguy Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 As I was reading the posts I quickly found my self thinking that Adonalsium may have shattered himself but, why then would there be a plot and a weapon. A few ideas pop into my head 1: He know it's enemy's wouldn't stop trying so he did it voluntarily because of the collateral damage the weapon would cause (or to just defuse the situation or gain experience or other motivation). 2: Someone else found (stole) the weapon and it simply went off intentionally or unintentionally. In this case it might have been Hoid who was holding it after finding/stealing it and he therefore feels responsible even though it wasn't by design. 3: The enemies eventually succeed. I don't think that the 1/16th of Adonalsium shattered the rest of itself. The quotes from above I think are being miss-represented. It talks about hatred Oduim going crazy because of how it was now out of context of the other godly attributes.
The Invested Beard Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 So judging by the content of the letters, it sounds like maybe Frost and Hoid were both a part of the initial shattering, not just Hoid. I would say it was either just the two of them or all of the original 16 shard holders as well. More than likely all of them as Rayse apparently wanted to become what he is now. So maybe some sort of grand experiment or power grab that now Hoid feels remorse for and a responsibility to put back the way it was? Just rambling, don't mind me.
hoidhunter he/him Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 this topic is always tricky...especially if you're read any of the unpublished stuff...I really want to reference something from LoP...but...can't... 3

I'm getting impatient... 1
Stormgate he/him Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Not unless you have an extremely absurd amount of bendalloy, a Bendalloy Misting, and the materials to make steel and zinc Compounders wouldn't hurt. 2
