I'm double posting, because this is an independent thought, and I like having more posts.

I would like to announce the writing I wrote last week was crap, but I revised it today, and the writing group loved it. An excellent start to the beginning of this book.

i would like to announce that i have swapped my 401K from a traditional over to a roth and increased my contribution by 2%. Hooray for responsible fiscal planning! (not really)

I'd like to announce that I wish I had a writing group.  Also, I'll probably be going to LTUE!

You can always do Reading Excuses?

And everyone seemed to have fun!

That's the most important part. I've known people who say they can't DM for this reason or that reason, and I usually tell 'em that if you make the game fun, and everyone enjoys it, who the heck cares about whatever the reason you consider yourself a "bad/inadequate/new/whatever DM"

I would like to announce that I DM'd for the first time ever last night.  For five people who had never played D&D.  And everyone seemed to have fun!

I've played one time and always wanted to play again. Problem is my brother in law is the DM and lives out of state thus making game play next to impossible. Seems hard to find groups that allow N00bs.

I have no idea how to find a group at all.  I've always wanted to get into D&D but have never been able to find an actual group.

We have a group out here that's basically just me and some friends from highschool and college who were like "hey! let's play D&D!" and so we did. That's the whole story of how my group formed. Though, we actually haven't played anything for a bit, been taking kind of a break for 6 months or so. We've actually had the group together since about 2001 and we've gamed almost every week (missing the few odd session here and there) in that time.

I've been trying to get a group started for a long time now.  My apartment building had a game night last night, and I just decided to give it a shot.  I grabbed my Player's Handbook, went to the meeting place, and said, "Hey, D&D's a game.  Anyone want to come play with me?"  Four of them agreed reluctantly, and one girl said, "Oh, I've always wanted to try that!" (That's probably what got at least two of the guys to come in the first place.)  But everyone was having fun by the end!

Oh yeah? Which system? Some friends and I started a new Pathfinder campaign, which we're all pretty stoked about. I've actually been thinking about DMing again at some point in the future, although I don't know when I would find the time for it.

Pathfinder is awesome. Have you seen the advanced player's guide classes? I loves me some inquisitor.

I deliberately left out which system I used because of some...strong opinions some people have on the subject.

YOU DIRTY 4TH EDITION PLAYER!!

I kid. :P

Note: I personally don't care for 4th ed, just not my bag, but if it's what you like, then it's what you like, my opinion doesn't matter. :)

I have! My DM has every book, and I've gone through every one of them. Pathfinder is my favorite system, and I've played everything since 2e.

And no worries if you like 4e, Link. I hate it, personally, but play what you love and don't let anyone tell you differently (and when you get more experience, move on to Pathfinder and experience the true awesomeness of D&D :P )

See? Strong opinions.  I actually started out on 3.5, and played that for many years.  (Level 24. Yeah, we killed Tiamat.)  But my DM would insert random bits and pieces from 2nd edition and it took me a LONG time to really learn what was going on.

I recently was at a D&D session.  Pathfinder system.  I don't know what changes are in 4e, but I like the changes in Pathfinder.

I would like to announce I'm about to take my first creative writing class later today. Yay!

Good luck!  Don't let them beat the genre fiction out of you!

It seems that lots of people here like D&D.  Is there some way to play online maybe?

You can always do play-by-post.  Just like any forum RPG, but you follow the rules for whatever system you want to play.  Mythweavers.com is a site dedicated to that purpose, with built in dice rollers and character sheets for most major systems.  They don't, however, keep the rules handy, so you'll still need the books.  Technically we could start up a game right here, but everyone would need to have actual dice.  There's also a free MMORPG based on 3.5 Eberron, but that's not what you're talking about. :(

I would like to announce two things. First of all, I doubt anything short of brain death could rob me of my love of fiction. Don't worry there.

Second of all, I just discovered that my old high school now has a GIS class (geographic information science). Since I am a geography major and have many fond memories of this school, this makes me extraordinarily happy.

Dice roller

3rd edition SRD

Pathfinder SRD

and google docs can be used to make spreadsheet-charactersheets that you can share with those whom you are playing with.
