Voidus Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Mobiles are only prevalent in Newcago because of a deal Steelheart made with the Knighthawk Foundry, to keep better control of his people. Yeah but I still believe that most Epics would have them.
Edgedancer he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 So, he can fall diagonally? ...That's.... decidedly unimpressive. Better than nothing though, I suppose. What could he do working with a gravity manipulator? I know he can levitate, but he'd still have inertia, right? He could split Edgerunner's kinetic energy though. It'd more than half their speed, but it would still be faster than walking. More like in descending curves than strictly diagonal but yeah. I think splitting her energy would still cause trouble, because first she would need to accelerate and then leeching from her would decelerate her, meaning he couldn't take unlimted kinetic energy from her. There's also the probem for adjusting to their different weights ect. With enough practice they could probably pull something off but getting the balance right at first try seems implausible. Now, what they should be able to do is having Frostfire put himself in that artifical zero G we talked about and then letting Edgerunner pull him along. Kobold, what would the interior of the command station look like, and what would Arsenal be doing when she and Shiny Sparkle arrive? Oh, and Edge, is it okay if I just take them there? Sure just take them there. If you want to lay on the embarrassing Autumn and Shiny Sparkle could end up landing... wait... Oh well, still a very nice post. Rainmaker's light shines brightly, but she's small (nowhere near sun or star sized) so if she's on the other side of the city, especially at ground level, and has clouded over the sky, it's still gonna be pretty dark. I did not take Calamity into account though. I'll have to reread some of Steelheart and figure out how that plays into things. For now, just assume they have reasons to be trained to fight in the dark, but they weren't necessarily using those skills at the moment (come to think of it, they wouldn't be anyways, or at least not until Rainmaker left). Decoy wasn't gifting her healing ability, she was using her other power. She has the power to make a link with another person, then all the damage they suffer is transferred to her instead, and she is able to heal it (usually). So the link she established with Euphoria protected Euphoria by transferring the damage Euphoria would have suffered to Decoy. I didn't put too much more thought than that into it (since she was being killed off), but let me know if any edits need doing. In general, I think I'm fine with people rating their own epics in terms of power and usefulness, and deciding what kinds of residences and servant numbers are appropriate (otherwise I can already see myself getting inundated with these sorts of questions). As long as you find a way to justify it in your head, and it isn't too outlandish, (like 100 servants and a castle for an epic who has the power to pop balloons), then it should be fine. I'm fine with being consulted, and will step in if I feel something is unreasonable, but I'm also fine with people taking initiative and doing their own world building. For Kenshin, she has a pretty useful combat power, so off the top of my head I'm guessing somewhere mid-level for home and number of servants. Let if me know if that sounds right for you. And she can absolutely be in that group of immigrants from the prologue. I would love to see what other characters thought of that scene. If she shines brightly enough her size doesn't really matter. Eh, whatever. Not a problem, just curious what was actually happening. So 50 servants and a mansion sounds reasonable. (What, to much? ) The actual post is coming but with first figuring out her voice, having to establish some bits and also reacting to the running RP it might take a while. And it's great. Oregon Fact 340: Kobold King is bored and unfunny. And now this can actually happen. (Except the part where Sam doesn't die. ) Okay, so the damage would be limited to the size of a person? If that's the case she could appear pretty much anywhere. As for timing, she can appear any time, but you will mostly be interacting with NPCs until Rainmaker is ready (unless Edge would want Kenshin to be sent out with a retrieval team?). If the explosion is big enough to cause a ruckus and draw Rainmaker out immediately, then I would prefer for the Queens to meet first, so we have a chance to meet each of them, and get a feel for their dynamic. I might be understanding him wrong but I thing Converter would reform from a random explosion at least her size and not actually cause it herself. I'd be okay with that, even though I'm not sure how much sense t would make to send someone without powers directly protecting them to someone that can freeze someone to death, inhabit movement, stop oxygen from circulating around them, stop every physical attack she sees coming and then whatever she does with that absorbed energy. You win the prize for inadvertently naming pets after RP characters.... ....until I introduce two new characters named Bruno and Mollie! We need one named Penny. I'm baaack! Anyways, here's the revised character profile: Name: Charles Frederick Williamson, aka "Timelock" Primary Power: Time manipulation. Within his line of sight, he can create pockets of distorted time, freeze objects or people, or accelerate the aging of various things. Secondary Powers: Danger sense, tied to his temporal abilities. If something is about to harm him, time freezes so he can step out of the way or avoid touching something. Also has enhanced dexterity. MO: Timelock has been known to freeze time around vital organs, essentially preventing them from doing their job, thus killing the person. If he’s feeling particularly displeased, he’ll speed up time for the entire person, watching as they age in a matter of minutes. Bio: Formerly a linguistics professor at Stanford University. One year after Calamity, he became an Epic His Rending was unusual: instead of going on a killing spree, he merely became a recluse and hired someone else to do his Rending for him. It may or may not have addled his brain – he switches randomly to other languages mid-conversation. After a period of seclusion, he emerged and took over the Bay Area of California. After securing his rule, he traveled north to Oregon. And as Astoria seems to be heating up rather, would that still be a good place for him to be? Astoria seems like a perfectly valid place for his power. For clarification's sake, how fast can time accelerate in a pocket and how large can they be? On the Secondary, does the timestop stay active until he isn't in danger anymore, is it timed or something like that? Phew, I swear you guys are filling up pages exponentially faster when I'm asleep It's kind of hard because there's not exactly a physics equation for determining what happens if dirt gets supernaturally compressed, but the problem is that solid matter really doesn't compress that well no matter how hard you put pressure on it, you're talking black hole levels of pressure necessary for that, off the top of my head I'm pretty sure that would explode pretty instantly and if it didn't the pressures going to start causing fusion reactions which would make it essentially a nuke. That would work, although you'd get diminishing returns, so you'd fly up a lower amount each successive jump. On further examination they don't, it just doesn't seem that fast when you're paying attention. A nuke... concratulations Calamity was right, the Equalizer just ended up killing himself. Does it even still count as the same material, if it's characteristic get warped to something it couldn't realistically be? (Not that it matters much, given that he could just create giant evil colums around the town.) Did anyone else notice that the Equalizer post is gone? Or when I'm not looking. What she absorbed the heat caused by friction and turned it into kinetic energy? Should she then be able to jump.to the same height each time? I'm have honestly no clue how to convert the energy here. Though I doubt that the heat caused by friction alone would be enough.

Yeah it'd be a completely different type of matter, I don't take enough physics to be sure but I'm pretty sure it'd be some kind of electron degenerate matter.
Kobold King he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Am I the only one who's slightly disappointed that Backtrack didn't get out in time to hear Reader's rant about Koschei? I knew I was forgetting something. 1
Blaze1616 he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Man, you people sure know how to populate a thread. I was gone for 2.5 days, that's it! Anyways, I love the Corvallis post Comatose! I'm going to spend today trying to get profiles for all three Powerpuffs done and hopefully a post. I'm feeling a bit under the weather though, so please be patient. While I'm posting, is there a specific format for Epic profiles, or just the basic name, powers, MO, appearance, and bio?
TheSilverDragon he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I might be understanding him wrong but I thing Converter would reform from a random explosion at least her size and not actually cause it herself. But afterwards is a totally different matter. When you put it like that, she is kind of op. I hadn't thought about stopping oxygen from circulating, that is a very cool way t use her power. Whould that kill steelheart? Or would his picture stop that? I'm have honestly no clue how to convert the energy here. Though I doubt that the heat caused by friction alone would be enough. She could always absorb some energy from the sun, or from some birds, insects or even people.

While I'm posting, is there a specific format for Epic profiles, or just the basic name, powers, MO, appearance, and bio? Guilty as charged. Not really, as long as we can tell what you're talking about it's fine. Oh, by the way, profiles also go in the "Epics of Oregon§ thread, so it's easier to find them. But afterwards is a totally different matter. When you put it like that, she is kind of op. I hadn't thought about stopping oxygen from circulating, that is a very cool way t use her power. I know, it's almost like I've been saying that all this time. No, Steelheart is immune to suffocation. True, she could do that.
Tulir he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Hello, I am back from backpacking! I am busy today, but I should be able to get a Florist post either late today or early tomorrow. I miss anything useful to know?

Well, mail-mi learned that it's likely Obliteration showed up in Oregon at some point before its destruction, so we get Obliteration.
Tulir he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Well, mail-mi learned that it's likely Obliteration showed up in Oregon at some point before its destruction, so we get Obliteration. Wait what
Kobold King he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Wait what mail-mi told the Bandersnatch about What Happened in Oregon. The Bandersnatch responded by telling us that it's perfectly feasible for Obliteration to have been present during the destruction.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Wait what He went to this Teen Author Boot Camp where Sanderson was a keynote speaker and did a signing afterward. mail-mi asked about Epic despots on the West Coast, and he got the name of one (Night's Whisper) but only that she's extremely powerful and somewhere on the West Coast, not in Oregon; and when he told Sanderson about this RP, he said it's likely Obliteration showed up because "he gets around." 1

I wonder if Night's Whisper is in anyway connected with Night's Sorrow.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 I wonder if Night's Whisper is in anyway connected with Night's Sorrow. It's possible, but I don't know how likely it is, since it seems Night's Sorrow is in the Coven and Night's Whisper is somewhere in the West. But it's possible that Whisper went west while Sorrow stayed in the east.

Not even a theory, since a theory implies a certain amount of evidence that we don't have. Night's Sorrow could live in Iceland for all we know.

It just seems like a good guess, since Abraham mentioned Night's Sorrow in the same breath as Steelheart and Obliteration, and Obliteration showed up in the second book. I admit I'll be disappointed if Night's Sorrow was just an offhand mention of an Epic wandering Nunavut and never appears in the book. 1
