Edgedancer he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 He can create an insulating level of vapor that prevents liquids from boiling rapidly? Not quite, but you got the namesake.
Comatose he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I was thinking more og her secondary power, because unless we think of this working differently there isn't mich difference between mind controlling someone and rewritting their emotions. I'll keep working on that power then, maybe put in some reasonable limits so its less mind controlly. The need for physical contact to rewrite emotional perceptions of memories would be one limit on her doing it against other Epic's wills. As it stands now, I don't have her changing what happened people's pasts, just what they felt about it. It also wouldn't affect how they perceive their present (that's what her other power does, but it's limited to Vanillas). Basically, someone affected by her history altering power (let's say she made their history happier) would wake up and go about their day, and be affected by stimulus normally (things that would normally perturb or bother them would continue to do so), and they would be left wondering why only yesterday, the same things had been enjoyable. It's powerful, for sure, but I see it more as a confusion tactic to dissuade rebellion than outright mind control. She's changing how people think they feel about their pasts, but she's not controlling how they feel in the present (unless she is using her pleasure giving power, which can only be used on Vanillas). I think it's the two powers used in combination that make her so powerful and mind-controlly. Currently working on new Epic, as a preview zis name: Leidenfrost. Have fun guessing what zis can do. By the way, I didn't meantion this before but we could get more pancake-trees. The idea is pretty freaky in a good way and hello plantage workers. For the record I think the possessive gender neutral pronoun under that model is 'zer/zir' rather than 'zis'. I have also seen 'zes' though, and wikipedia is no help sorting things out . I really want to do a scene of an Epic overseer supervising vanillas on a pancake plantation now . 1
Kobold King he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Wait. So Corvallis really is the Paradise Land of Pancakes and Merriness? 4

A persons preconception can go a long way though. Only hearing what you want to hear and all that. Escpecially if it's about relationships, loayality and the like You try to be political correct and what do you get? Be careful on the gun plantage. Wait. So Corvallis really is the Paradise Land of Pancakes and Merriness? Yes but the Merriness is a lie and it is build on the blood and suffering of the innocent. 1
Fatebreaker he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I could copy over the dream journal entry for you, if you insist. Whatever you want, I'm just curious. And reeeeeeeaaaaalllly bored. It's a slow day at work. I'm here for 3 more hours with nothing to do...
+Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) IIIIIINNNNNNTTTTTTTTRRRROOODDDUUUUUUCCCCCIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahem. Introducing a new character! Yay! Name: Frederick Williamson, aka "Timelock" Primary Power: Time manipulation. It stops time for all projectiles within ten feet. Able to create pockets of slowed down/sped up time up to ten feet in diameter. He can manipulate time up to 24 hours either way. Think bendalloy, If you've read Mistborn. Secondary Powers: Slower than normal aging as a result of primary power. Enhanced dexterity. Brief Bio: Formerly a linguistics professor at Stanford University. Became an Epic three years after Calamity. His Rending was unusual: instead of going on a killing spree, he merely became a recluse and hired someone else to do his Rending for him. Even more unusual is that it may or may not have addled his brain – he switches randomly to other languages mid-conversation. I'll post a more thorough bio later, maybe. TheSilverDragon he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 How does this bubble actually work? It's kind of useless if some major Epic could simply walk in and start causing trouble. The normal plan of only keeping away large numbers isn't reliable. I have an idea. What if Bubbles could create small bubbles around people and then have them fuse to the big bubble letting them in or out without dropping the big bubble. Kind of like Endocytosis.
Comatose he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I figured out how to print out little fold-able booklets with double sided pages on Adobe Reader today. I get four pages per piece of paper this way, which means I save a LOT of paper, and I now have cute little copies of the Divorce Act, the Children's Law Act, and Child Support Guidelines . As you can see, studying today has been very productive. 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 I'm working on a backstory Epic for one of my backstory Epics. 3
Aonar he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) Aonar, how is that Azrael segment with Snoopy coming along? Also so this post wasn't complete filler. Here's how I learn to use physics to kill Epics. https://youtu.be/vVvAzRiNNS0 Very, very slowly. The Azrael part is done most of the way up to the Overwatch fight, and the other bits are slowly being filled in. At the rate we're going... we probably still won't be ready to post anything for a week or two. Edited April 3, 2015 by Aonar Faileas
Kobold King he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I'm working on a backstory Epic for one of my backstory Epics. Have you made sure the backstory-backstory Epic has a believable biography? Maybe you should add some Epics to his backstory just to be safe. 1
+Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) Working on fleshing out Fred the Time Epic's backstory, and as I don't have time to read thousands upon thousands of posts, would someone be so kind as to a) tell me if Stanford, California has been claimed yet, and 2) tell me what the sparks is going on and how I start doing stuff here? Edited April 3, 2015 by Slowswift
+Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Astoria, probably. Seems the least complicated at the moment.
+Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) All right then... What do you suggest? EDIT: Basically, his power stops anything in time that was aiming to kill. Though poison might be a way around it... Like I said, still working out the kinks. Edited April 3, 2015 by Slowswift
Aonar he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) You could always take that same basic power-set and buff it majorly. A powerful enough temporal manipulator would basically be a god. Maybe add danger-sense, tied to his temporal manipulation? Rather than have time stop for objects about to hurt him, just make all time stop relative to him whenever he's in danger from any source? That'b be a near-perfect PI. You could also explore when would happen when he slows time, then interacts with the slowed time. (If kinetic energy equals mass times velocity squared, what happens when velocity is increased by a factor relative to the discrepancy between the time-streams, etc.) That would put him on easily on par with the heavy hitters in Astoria. +Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Ooooh... that sounds interesting. And I'm still wondering what city he should join, and if anyone has an Epic who has control over the San Francisco/Stanford areas of California.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 If he becomes powerful enough, Astoria would be the best.
+Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Wonderful. Now back to planning his bio... I reckon Astoria will never be the same once he arrives.
+Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 True, true.... Just one more thing: where do I start, how do I start, etc. Does Timelock just show up, or is there some weird rule or... Basically, what now?
+Slowswift Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Right, thanks! Post an expanded bio and an intro to Astoria soon.
the Gleeman he/him Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) Ok I've got an idea for an epic I'd like to add as a newcomer to Oregon from another location Epic name: Thermostat Real Name: Mark Thomson Primary Power: temperature manipulation: he can manipulate temperatures near instantaneously anywhere from around 200oK to 3500oK and can extend the power further with more time. He has a very high degree of control to his power and can even use temperature differences to create pressure explosions. At any one time he can consciously control the exact temperature of around the area of a small room. He can use this power for everything from creating ice weapons out of the air to creating superheated blasts of air to incinerate an opponent. Secondary Power: temperature immunity: he is immune to any and all temperature changes no matter how extreme and can see no matter the heat wave in a manner resembling infrared. Passive Power: temperature shielding: he creates a dual-leveled shield around himself of firstly, a heat shield exceeding 6000oK and an inner shield that reaches temperatures close to absolute zero. This allows him to subconsciously melt almost any physical construct and stop anything made of energy from harming him. Though not a true prime invincibility, it is exceedingly powerful. It can also be consciously dampened or stopped. Appearance: He has the build of an average man who engages in normal exercise. He wears a full white suit with a neon blue tie and a white trench coat. His hair is a longer brown disheveled mess that looks like he just woke up. He is heterochromia with one eye being an icy blue and the other being an unnatural fiery orange color. Personality: He has a superiority complex befitting of Julius Caesar and knows he is the best thing before sliced bread (not after, nothing is after). He has been known to go into fits of rage but is otherwise quite genial. It is only when he loses his cool that he is truly dangerous. Does this seem like a good idea? If so, where would he fit in best? Thanks Edited April 4, 2015 by the Gleeman 3
Voidus Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I'd imagine that with Lucentia around the actual value of diamonds would have dropped significantly. The book even talks about this. No, as Twi said, the town has an Epic with exactly the same power. I'm not sure how you feel about it but something that can manipulate my memories/mind is scary/dangerous enough that, if I were an Epic, I would just remove it on principle. Not only as an invader but always. How does this bubble actually work? It's kind of useless if some major Epic could simply walk in and start causing trouble. The normal plan of only keeping away large numbers isn't reliable. Well as was pointed out in Steelheart, Epics tend not to kill other Epics that might be useful. If she's known for being particularly loyal they might but by doing so they'd lose most of the city which kind of defeats the purpose of invading in the first place. Gotchya! That makes sense. I deliberately haven't fleshed out the duplication epic's powers because I'm still hoping someone else will take her, but I'm hoping she'll be distinct enough from the Financier. Perhaps, if we still want to go the "epics based on powerpuff girls" route" then the Blossom epic and the duplication epic could merge. Instead of just duplicating things, her power could be to "plant" and "grow" anything (which would also increase the need for the High Epics perfect weather control). "Blossom Epic" could plant things like generators, bread, cupcakes, silk, weapons, etc, and then grow plants that bear the original object she planted as fruit. I think this could be enough to distinguish her from the Financier (moreso than if she just made flat-out copies) and it fits in more with the garden/paradise motif I have in my head for Corvallis. In my mind, new epics or people are held at the border (outside the bubble), where they are checked out. Then, once a day, or every other day, or some other time-frame, "Bubble Epic" drops the field to let epics wishing to enter come in, and epics wishing to leave go out. Again, I'm open to suggestions and further world-building in this area. Basically, the intent of the bubble is a defense for the city (in times of siege, no one would be let or out) and a means of controlling population movement. If you can think of other ways to accomplish these goals, I'm open to suggestions. As for the one major epic causing trouble problem, inside the bubble, Corvallis isn't exactly defenseless. I'm certain the High Epic has enforcers ready to defend her realm, and would also fight against invaders herself, should the need arise. I'd love to adopt the pancake and gun garden growing Epic Ok I've got an idea for an epic I'd like to add as a newcomer to Oregon from another location Epic name: Thermostat Real Name: Mark Thomson Primary Power: temperature manipulation: he can manipulate temperatures near instantaneously anywhere from around 200oK to 3500oK and can extend the power further with more time. Comatose he/him Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I'd love to adopt the pancake and gun garden growing Epic She's yours! Can't wait to see what you do with her . Remember that Corvallis already has an extensive Arboretum at the University, so she could have quite the garden using the Arboretum as her headquarters. I'll do another roll call in a bit, but the force-field epic (sick of writing 'bubble epic') is still up for grabs, or could just be an NPC. Corvallis is also open, of course, to any other epics who would like to join, either as citizens or invaders . Heck, we could probably even add more Queens to the inner circle, if people so desire. 1

Excellent. For a basic profile I'm thinking: Epic: Cornucopia Primary power: Bio-duplication- can 'plant' any object in the ground and create a living plant which will bear the planted object as a kind of fruit. Secondary: Flora-kinesis- can exert a certain amount of control over the plants she's created to manipulate them. Synthesis- Like her plants Cornucopia can receive energy directly from the sun, resulting in a healing factor during the daytime, although this is not high enough to be considered a PI it does allow her to recover from non-fatal wounds relatively quickly. 3

Love the name and the fleshing out of her powers! Can't wait to see more. Also, she and High Epic (I think I might go with Rainmaker) would be a good team, since Rainmaker could always make certain the sun was shining on Cornucopia during the day, and intensify the sunlight when Cornucopia needs to heal faster. EDIT: Another character idea for someone to take: Euphoria is the weak point of Rainmaker's regime, so it would make sense for Rainmaker to keep her well protected with loyal epic bodyguards. Since Euphoria goes missing, said body guards could have a fun plotline trying to track her down, while feeling guilty about losing her. EDIT 2: Soo, Rainmaker and Euphoria have basically developed full fledged personalities and looks in my head. I'm probably ready to write them. If I can finish studying the legislation I need to tonight, and there's still time before bed, I'll see about getting them up. If not today, then maybe if I work hard tomorrow there will be time. WHY did this have to happen during finals, lol? 1
