I like the name Rainmaker! (Haven't seen Looper though.)

Having trouble thinking of any PI but the old stand-bys. Super healing, impenetrable skin, reincarnation... maybe her body turns to mist or water when she's injured, reforming fully healed?

Also, here's the Khione pony.

The best part about her from my point of view is that I know exactly what she sees off-panel that's causing her to make that face.:P

Woah, too many posts to sort through. Well first off, happy easter for my Internet-family, hope you all have a great weekend. Not sure how much I'll be on but probably at least a bit less than usual. (Darn family celebrations cutting into my Epic-making time, don't they realize how important it is! :P)

"Nighthoundness" should be an adjective describing everything full of so much abject horror it defies all description but "nighthoundlike."

"I figured their personality out, until I wrote them." Can I adopt that as my personal mantra? :P In all seriousness, though, I think this game is awesome for character development. Nothing helped me develop my characters more than being forced to answer questions like "How would they respond to a grouchy necromancer?" or "How would they fight an Epic brimming with nighthoundness?"

This is why I haven't introduced Metronome yet, he'd result in all characters just whimpering eternally and preventing any other character growth. :P

All three of them at he same time? :o

I'm not judging or anything; I'm just saying their dates would be weird.

I have no words for the mental image this inspired.

Not Lightwars, that much is sure. Everyone else... depends on how much Numnums can share. :P

Allosaurs are not known for their sharing abilities :P

In terms of maintaining canon (as in a reason why High Epic (really need a name for her) is not mentioned in Steelheart), let's just assume she doesn't make it out of the destruction of Oregon alive :).

Idea for High Epic's name:
Rainmaker (Looper reference - yay!)

Also, I'm having trouble coming up with a PI, any ideas?

EDIT (ugh, why can't I remember everything in one post?): Also, Iconoclast is also welcome in the thread, of course, presumably in the 'invader' category :)

Hmmm... Stormborn? With some form of weather related PI, Reincarnation accompanied by a thunderbolt/tornado/extreme weather condition in her place of rebirth?

PI: When she dies, lightning strikes her body and she is brought back to life?

Hmmm... Stormborn? With some form of weather related PI, Reincarnation accompanied by a thunderbolt/tornado/extreme weather condition in her place of rebirth?

I was kind of hoping to stay away from resurrection, since we have a decent number of those already.

Also, I am still thinking about the weather control bit, and might go back on it, but in terms of character history, would including Snowfall in the history be an option? Also are there any other ideas for large scale epic powers for High Epic?

We don't know enough about Snowfall to do that. We don't even know zis gender, much less zis modus operandi. :(

How might I join you fine fellows? My brain is atrophying, and it needs a workout. Figured this would be a fun place to do it. Also, the Reckonerverse is underrated and awesome.

That it is, Slow. That it is. And of course you may join. :D Got an idea for a character yet?

I am trying so hard to find a "New Toys!" gif from Toy Story 3, but it isn't working. Ah well. Welcome!

Just so you guys know, on Saturday, I'll be heading out of town until next Saturday and I won't have consistent(if any) Internet access. So don't expect much from me next week. If there's any posts you want me to get in before I go, let me know now or wait till next week.

Is it? If it is, then I'm kind of sad... Does anyone know?

Also, when the epic dies, all the stored energy the epic had is released.

It's similar, but not exactly the same. Frostfire is much more limited in how he can transform energy. He can take it in and reapply it to objects within line of sight, but they only thing he can change is the vectors of the energy involved. (Changing the area and direction of application, and the like.) He can't actually convert it from one form to another.

If there's a new location starting... well, I've got plenty of Epic ideas. :P Any here that seem interesting/like they would fit well if they were thrown into the mix?

Pupetress:

Primary Powers:

Telepathy: Can establish a telepathic link with someone that allows her to know roughly where the other person is at all times, and communicate telepathically. The strength of this link is variable, from full on mind-meld, to tracking.

Draining: While in close proximity to someone that she has one of these links with, she can siphon off attributes, strength, health, intelligence, etc. This does not work on Epics. She can siphon off enough of an attribute quickly enough to kill. This power allows her a minor healing factor, increased strength, and increased deductive skills. She may also add attributes to others nearby, affording them these same bonuses.

Secondary Powers:

Animation: She can establish mental links to inanimate objects as well, and perform minor long-range telekinesis. This works better with things that were once living, and best with recently deceased humans. (Hence, Puppetress.) She cannot control many at a time, however, and use of her other powers diminishes this number still further.

Monk:

Primary Power: Enhanced physical capabilities. Increased endurance, strength, and speed. Also enhanced senses, sight, hearing, touch, balance, everything.

Secondary: Enhanced mental abilities. Increased reaction time, information processing, and general mental speed. Can modify sensory input on the fly. (Blocking out pain, and things of that nature.)

Passive: Kinetoception: Can sense the energy inherent in objects around him. Heat, motion, volatility, etc. Also intuitively interprets the paths of moving objects, the chains of cause and effect started by the energy he can sense. In essence, a highly limited form of Precognition. Not quite a PI, but close.

Apollo

Primary Power: Hypnotic Music: Any music he plays/sings can have a variety of psychic effects, from persuasion, to sleep, to paralysis, to madness.

Secondary Power: Weak Long-Term Precognition: Will on rare occasion give prophesies, that more often than not turn out to be true.

Glutton

Primary Power: Can metabolize food and energy stored in sugars/fats at a vastly accelerated rate. Speeds healing, adds endurance, increases speed/strength.

Can also cause others around him (within a roughly 15 metre radius) to do this as well. Offers all the same benefits, but if he causes them to metabolize the energy stores in their bodies too quickly, they literally starve to death in seconds.

Smoothtalker:

Primary Power: Persuasion, amped up to eleven. He can convince anyone of anything, and they will do whatever he tells them.

Kronos:

Primary: Temporal Manipulation: Comes in two flavours, mental, and physical.

-Mental: Can change his or other’s perception of time. Speed up, slow down, but not stop. (Unless he does so for himself.)

-Physical: Can actually change the physical flow of time. Speeding things up, slowing them down, even stopping them, relative to himself and those he is in physical contact with. When he interacts with things outside of his timestream, energy is added relative to the discrepancy between the two flows. Kronos is also passively protected from any backlash that should result from this.

Passive: Danger Sense/Minor Precognition: When in immediate danger, time stops physically for Kronos, allowing him time to get out of the way and think of a solution.

Holy Calamity's Cupcakes!!! That was a lot of writing!

The list of new Epics sound amazing. The only problem I can see is that there's already been an Epic named "Bubbles" (sadly deceased, at the hands of Team Paladin)...

But then again, the name's hardly original, and two or more Epics could easily have chosen it.

I have two exams next week, and an exam and an essay the week after, so it probably wouldn't be responsible of me to get things running until after that, but that's okay because I think I need some time to develop High Epic character (and find a name).  We can also keep adding in some epics and rounding out the cast in the mean time.

So if by "soon" you mean probably some time this month, then yes, a new thread will be starting soon.

Unless you were talking about a different thread.  In that case, ignore everything I just said.

"Bubbles" was more of a placeholder name than anything.  As long as the powers aren't too similar (now that you mention her, I remember the post where Paladin and Ranger are fighting her) I think we should be fine.

We might have some new members joining soon, so what would you think of starting the Corvallis thread , but keeping the focus on areas that don't immediately involve the Queens? If not, we could figure something else out--start in a small town or another city.

I would just want to do the opening post with one of the queens, and at least of the High Epics powers and name, but I could probably get that done.  Maybe I could do the opening post as Euphoria, since she's more developed, and then go from there.

I'm pretty booked until next Wednesday, and while I would love to procrastinate and do posts instead, I probably shouldn't.  Would getting a thread up and running by next weekend be soon enough?  That would give new players time to develop characters, and we could do some plotting and world building, but still give me some time to focus on exams Wednesday/Thursday and get my epics in a row.

I love that in one day I doubled my number of characters and started world building a brand new town.  RP ADDICTION!!!!

Sounds good. And there's no timetable at the moment, and therefore no deadline as of yet , but Corvallis is shaping up to be an awesome setting. If we're going to expand, it's one of those settings that I could see being a really unique one.

Uniqueness it what I was hoping for.  In the mean time we can do some world building and make it special.

I'm thinking that I might put the other two epics I thought up earlier into the mix as epic citizens.  It seems like a relatively 'safe' environment for the two of them (thought it won't be when things start going south).

I like the idea of presenting Corvallis as a sort of paradise for epics, where they can be waited on hand and foot and live in lives of luxury, in exchange for submitting to the High Epic's rule, and defend the city when needed.  On the surface it could be peaceful, with lots of intrigue as epics compete for favour and slaves.  Then, when Euphoria vanishes (still plotting that part out), everything could start to fall apart.

And then the destruction will begin :)

Yay girl power? :P

Is that a cheer for Lucentia? :P

Alright, so I'l spread this out over multiple responses to the posts I noticed these points but just remember that I like the idea.

With finals on the horizon, it's the last thing I should be doing, but I may or may not be worldbuilding "What Happened in Corvallis" just because I can't turn my brain off. If no one has any objections, stay tuned till later in April (or sooner if I can't get this out of my head) for some more concrete ideas :).

Disclaimer: I'm not necessarily saying a new thread in Corvallis should be started or anything, just that I have ideas for it, if people are amenable and there are no objections we could potentially start a new thread there. If this were to happen, I would definitely be open to LOTS of collaboration. I'm thinking of doing some sort of standard plotline where a High Epic has maintained control of the city with the help of a coalition of weaker, but specifically useful lesser epics (like Steelheart, and most of the other tyrants). The twist would be when one of these super useful weaker epics who has helped maintain the rule of the high epic goes missing/is killed/ goes rebel/ some other thing I haven't thought of, and the High Epic and company must struggle to maintain control of the city while facing off against intruders and challengers to their power.

EDIT: Similar to what happens when the Reckoners steal Conflux.

For ideas (and these are just basic), I thought the High Epic could be a super powerful large-scale weather controller. My overall idea for Corvallis is that it could be a place of luxury (perhaps because one of the weaker epics is a matter duplicator, who can duplicate non-living items, giving the city a wealth of resources). Another weaker epic could have some sort of large scale selective force field power to help keep the city safe, etc. I think there could be the potential for some cool scenes based at the University, especially at the Peevey Arboteum, or something. I think high epic (She's a she in my brain) would present the city as some sort of Utopia for epics, and use Vanillas kind of like skaa.

Anyways, that's just what's been buzzing around my brain today as I google things about Corvallis. Like I said, stay tuned for more fleshed out ideas, and feel free to make suggestions if this gets your brain buzzing too.

And you discovered the secret of Astoira's economy.

Just thought of a cool support epic, and a good contender for the one to go missing:

Name: Euphoria

Ability: Can rewrite people's memories/history by touching them. The effect is both mental and physical, but there is no chain reaction (example: changing one person's past will not change the pasts of people connected to them). Her ability is what allows the epics in charge of Corvallis to control their large population of slave Vanillas. At least once every two weeks, every vanilla must visit Euphora, where she rewrites their history to give them a perfect life up until this point. This means that despite the awful conditions the slaves work under, they only ever have up to two weeks worth of angst, and thus never get around to actually rebelling.

Secondary Power - the ability to gift good feelings to people. Being gifted this power can be addictive, as the gifted feelings are so unnaturally positive, that even natural happiness feels lesser in comparision. Another way of controlling the populace.

MO: What, you aren't enjoying your work, here, now you LOVE scrubbing epic's feet. What's that, you still want to rebel, GOOD NEWS, you just became a slave today because of something you did and know was wrong, but up until this point you have lived THE BEST LIFE EVER!!!

Assuming she can't manipulate Epics, in which case she would have no reason not to rule herself, she sounds like the kind of Epic that would get assassinate in the very first power struggle within the city, even more so, because those general mindrape meetings mean she's very open to getting killed.

I LOVE a good Mean Girls plotline (you should see the Colette's Posse plot going on in MBI) :).

I like the greek diety connection too, so I'll file that away as an option.

So right now, two members of the inner circle (or the Queens of Corvallis, as Kobold dubbed them) are really jumping out to me (High Epic and Euphoria), so I think I'd like to take them, if ya'll are okay with that. The others could be open for adoption.

Ideas for other Queens of Corvallis (Names Can Be Changed):

1. "Bubble" - can make forcefield like bubbles that stay in place. The force fields she makes are selective, meaning she can set them so certain things (wind, air, water, etc) can get through while others (metal, living things) cannot pass in or out. Even if created as a dome, the field actually extends under ground, with the earth being one of the things selectively allowed through (tunnelers however could still be kept out). Bubbles she makes will stay in place, but she can only make so many at a time, and every bubble she makes must be the same size. The bigger the bubble, the fewer bubbles she can make. The bubble she keeps maintained around the city is her max capacity, meaning that as long as it is in place, she cannot make any other bubbles.

PI: When threatened, she will automatically make a protective bubble around herself to repel harm. However, this would also cause her to drop the protective bubble around the city, meaning High Epic keeps her VERY well protected.

Weakness/Personality/MO/History - all up for grabs :)

2. "Duplication Epic" - Can duplicate any non-organic item. She supplies Corvallis with its wealth of both luxury items and necessities such as food. She also powers the city by duplicating fully charged generator batteries. She can destroy individual duplicates by touching them, or has the option of recalling all of her duplications at once.

Everything Else: Up for grabs. Would be nice if she had no PI though. Her power could also be altered or adjusted as desired.

I also had another Euphoria idea. I was thinking that since, objects have little value in a society where duplication epic can copy anything, Euphoria's gifted positive feelings could a secondary form of currency among Vanillas. Once gifted, Vanillas can choose whether or not to use their feelings or save them, or the rate they use up the positive feelings (due to the addictive nature, this is hard). They can also gift the positive feelings to other Vanillas in exchange for things or services. That would make Euphoria's disappearance even more crippling.

I'm also thinking of removing or limiting her history rewriting power, and emphasizing the pleasure gifting more, since it seems to have more potential. Epics would come to the city by leave of the High Epic and "Bubble" where they would be given Vanilla servants. When Epics please the High Epic or Euphoria, their slaves are given more happiness, which makes them better servants. When epics displease the High Epic or Euphoria, then Euphoria cuts back on their positive feelings ration, creating discontent among their workers.

Thoughts? Of course, there is still plenty of room in the inner circle, among the other epics of the city, among the Vanilla slaves, or among the envious invaders waiting for an opportunity to destroy the high epic's little utopia.

EDIT: I almost forgot, Winter's Chase character would definitely also be welcome in the Inner Circle, as another Queen of Corvallis, or in any other faction. An Artemis/Wonder woman cross would also be welcome. They could be High Epic's enforcers.

The problem with Bubble is that the only plot line with Epics that aren't already integrated into the city would need to start with "teleporter kills high-priority targets in the city."

I like this idea. Perhaps his arrival is at the start of the RP?

I wasn't thinking that, since that restriction would limit character creation, and the Amazon trope can get old. I was thinking just that the inner circle is a girls club, rather than implementing an Anti-male policy.

What do other people think??

The biggest sin of this place is that even though I have an Epic that would fit in but most likely not the time to write her. :(

I've been considering making a new section for a more regular outlet of my many Epics so if we need one and Comatose wants to worldbuild Corvallis more I could speed my vague idea into production. I was thinking of making it more of a thoroughfare, a common stopping point for travelling Epics so that people could move from one setting to another through there and meet up with new characters. (I was vaguely thinking of Bend, which is an awesome name for an Epic city)

I had an Idea for a thread: What Happened in California

Epic 1: Dude, I just got water manipulation abilities!

Epic 2: Dude, I can now control organic matter!

Calamity: You know what you must do now.

Epic 1: Make it so that theres always waves to surf?

Epic 2: Make sick boards?!

Epic 1: Duuuude!!!

Epic 2: DUUUUUUUDE!!!!! Lets hit the beach!!!

Calamity: No! Wait! What about destruction and conquest?

Epic 1: Brah, have you seen the waves today? There's a righteous swell comin' in from the north. The barrel will be RADICAL. And thanks to my new powers, I'll always have waves to surf!!!

Epic 2: And thanks to my powers we'll have an endless supply of boards!!! Thanks brah!!!

Epic 1: We should grab some In-n-Out on the way.

Epic 2; Duuuuuuuude!

Unfortunately California is already ruled over by a group of Epics called the Beach Boys according to fanon that I made a while ago. :P

On names, I was thinking something that points out how "happy and safe" people are there. I was thinking "Haven" as an idea.

I like it, though that might just be because I've been playing Dragon Age: Inquisition and there's a town called Haven there  :P
