Kobold King he/him Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 That's a good point. Um, I'd say a brain is too complex for him. Maybe if he took a good ten minutes or so. A skull, um, I can't think of a reason why he can't do that. Hmm. This basically makes him an insta-kill Epic on the level of Deathpoint.

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Hmm. This basically makes him an insta-kill Epic on the level of Deathpoint. Skin and muscle are pretty complex, though. Could he reach through those to get to bones?
Voidus Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Hmm. This basically makes him an insta-kill Epic on the level of Deathpoint. Doesn't he need a bit of time to whistle to completely shatter something? Granted it's still pretty much an insta-kill but there's still a difference.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Hmm. This basically makes him an insta-kill Epic on the level of Deathpoint. Yeah. And he would've already used it in the RP if I had thought of it. Any biological reasons why the skull would be difficult for him to shatter? He can't do it because the sound of shattering skills is his weakness? If only.
Kobold King he/him Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Yeah. And he would've already used it in the RP if I had thought of it. Any biological reasons why the skull would be difficult for him to shatter? If only. No biological reasons that I can think of, but there is a precedent for powerful Epics that can't affect organic material.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Skin and muscle are pretty complex, though. Could he reach through those to get to bones? He's done it already. Layers don't really matter to him, only distance. Doesn't he need a bit of time to whistle to completely shatter something? Granted it's still pretty much an insta-kill but there's still a difference. Yes,he does. Which is why he could technically rupture organs and such, but it takes too long in a fight, so he goes for bones and such. No biological reasons that I can think of, but there is a precedent for powerful Epics that can't affect organic material. Wouldn't bones count though?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Yeah. And he would've already used it in the RP if I had thought of it. Mailliw73 he/him Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Maybe the other complicated organs--brain, eyes--interfere with Freq's powers? Best idea I've heard so far. So maybe the other organs inside and around the skull make it really difficult?
Voidus Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Actually thinking about it shattering skulls wouldn't do much unless they full on exploded,if it just breaks it up into pieces that's dangerous certainly but it wouldn't kill someone instantly, we survive for years with our skulls separated into pieces after all.
mail-mi he/him Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 So, can everyone Alan me with stuff that Reader can use against their characters in the clinic? I'm not sure who's all gonna be there, otherwise I'd just Alan everyone who's there.
Kobold King he/him Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Best idea I've heard so far. So maybe the other organs inside and around the skull make it really difficult? Does that mean that carrying guns close to your body would make it harder for him to whistle them? How do we measure complexity--number of interconnected parts with different compositions?

It wouldn't explode, but there would be some force. It would be painful, but it might not kill. I don't really know. Does that mean that carrying guns close to your body would make it harder for him to whistle them? How do we measure complexity--number of interconnected parts with different compositions? No, they'd have to be inside your body. So if you can store them inside you a la Joker's cellphone detonator in The Dark Knight or you can swallow them, that'd work. Complexity is, I'm thinking, based on number of components with different compositions and living or not. A gun, while I've said he's shattered those before, he's really just shattering the barrel.
Tulir he/him Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 An entire human? No. He can't shatter something that big and complex. He has to take it one part at a time. If it were a piece of metal the size of a human, he could do it because of the simplicity of the object. With people, he's usually confined to a bone or cartilage. I guess organs would work too. That's a good point. Um, I'd say a brain is too complex for him. Maybe if he took a good ten minutes or so. A skull, um, I can't think of a reason why he can't do that. Hmm. This basically makes him an insta-kill Epic on the level of Deathpoint. I am far more scared than I was. Has he affected organic items before? Does that mean that carrying guns close to your body would make it harder for him to whistle them? How do we measure complexity--number of interconnected parts with different compositions? If any of you have read or heard of Worm, it deals with a similar problem quite nicely. The Manton Effect is what makes parahumans not be able to affect a human directly, so the thing that stops force field generators to create one in a skull, stops pyromancers from boiling blood and such. If there hasn't been precedent, it could be the sheer number of neurons in that region causing the complexity and such

In the RP, he's shattered eardrums as well as cartilage in the nose. I know he at least tried to shatter Planeshift's leg, but I can't remember if he ever actually succeeded breaking bones in the RP Neurons would work.
Voidus Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 A quick bit of research shows that a break in itself isn't much of a problem but if the force is enough to start rupturing blood vessels or increasing the pressure on the brain and hemorrhaging it could be a problem, so it could be as simple as the complexity doesn't completely dampen his powers but it's no longer enough to completely shatter a skull, just to fracture it.

Been a while since I have read through Dalles

Kobold King he/him Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Was Reader going to go for the newcomers mostly, or did you want some tidbits on Autumn, too?I doubt he'd need much ammunition against her with Shiny Glass's arm around her.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I forgot about that part, sorry. Been a while since I have read through Dalles It's alright. I forget things my own characters do. A quick bit of research shows that a break in itself isn't much of a problem but if the force is enough to start rupturing blood vessels or increasing the pressure on the brain and hemorrhaging it could be a problem, so it could be as simple as the complexity doesn't completely dampen his powers but it's no longer enough to completely shatter a skull, just to fracture it. Okay, so the complexity of the brain and others organs around the skull make it longer for him to break it and even then, it only fractures. Sounds good to me. 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 I doubt he'd need much ammunition against her with Shiny Glass's arm around her. Yeah, probably just a camera and her parents' address. Too bad they've since fled Cottage Grove without their daughter's knowledge. 1
mail-mi he/him Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Was Reader going to go for the newcomers mostly, or did you want some tidbits on Autumn, too? Reader isn't going to drop the topic of Shiny Sparkle. 1

Voidus Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Anyone have any ideas where Bioterror can drop in in Astoria? I've got a fair amount of leeway with his arrival time so if need be I can wait til the fighting dies down first.

If you can give me some time to get his intro written, he could interrupt the Financier as he finishes officiating a wedding. 1
