ChullRider he/him Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Alright. So I was thinking about music and stuff and listening to some a little bit. And I'm like, "Hey! This song reminds me of Hoid!" And thus created was this article. Feel free to post more music for more characters/ more music for some of the characters already listed here. Hoid's Music: Tarantella https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_HwBYBPeNg Kaladin's Music: Child of LIght Hymn of Light* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6w222S7ia0 Shallan's Music: Child of Light Woods Darker Than Night (For the timid Shallan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfeXBePMLf8 Shallan's Music: Child of LIght Bolmus Populi (For the happy, outgoing version of Shallan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TxMSzHdmh0 and Child of LIght Dark Creatures (For the Shardbearing, Lightweaving Shallan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btKf2zVQP7E Adolin/Dalinar's Music: Child of LIght Jupiter's Lightning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUBgV-RVPL8 Navani's Music: Child of Light Patches of Sky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4jB2XHJAW4 Eshonai and Parshendi's Music: Child of Light: Metal Gleamed in the Twilight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdVLWMPOT4s Szeth's Music: G/S Burned Tower Remix PokemonRemixStudio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUlJA7YC_dk Hope you enjoy listening to these. They're all amazingly composed/recomposed by talented people. Kudos to them! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here are some revisions I have for them and why I picked them: Hoid's Music: Intriguingly mysterious, like Hoid himself. Kaladin's Music: Reminds me of the battle scenes with Kaladin. Sort of like him trying to do what's right and best for others, and being simply amazing, pulling through every ordeal. Shallan's Music (Timid): This music sounds rather timid, like it could be played right after a tragedy, and it sort of reminds me of Shallan's conflicted childhood. Shallan's Music (Happy): This is a very cheerful song, as if there were no wrong in the world, sort of like how Shallan acts. Shallan's Music (Confident): Reminds me of the fact that she just goes through every trial. Adolin/Dalinar's Music: Doesn't this song just say "Shardbearer Champion" and "Blackthorn" to you? It does to me. Navani's Music: This one just seemed to fit Navani's personality. Especially in the Words of Radiance. Eshonai and Parshendi's Music: This sounds incredibly fierce and evil, like Stormform. Szeth's Music: This one sounded conflicted, confused, and insane. Like Szeth. *Or should I say STORMlight? 6
Patrick Star Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) Kaladin's Squire Army: Strength of a Thousand Men - Two Steps from Hell: I think it's pretty self explanatory. Edit: Hey! Who downvoted this? And why? I'm being 100% serious! WoB already confirmed Kaladin's unusually large amount of squires! Edited February 4, 2015 by Patrick Star 10
ChullRider he/him Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Sorry. I gave you about 2-3 upvotes to make up for it. 1
Patrick Star Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Axies the Collector: Northern Archipelago - Tim Grabowski (composed for Skywind project): Axies is in the Reshi Isles, an archipelago in the north. Plus, it's just an awesome instrumental.

Frosted Flakes Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) "Take me to Church"--Hozier for Szeth. It's just got the perfect feel for him. This. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPgOnIDjuTc I think the chorus, at least, of "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums" by A Perfect Circle, is great for Dalinar when he was still wholly the Blackthorne and in the grip of the Thrill. Actually, I think it works well for the Thrill in general. Elhokar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnHmskwqCCQ Renarin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3n7Ycg-XlU (Don't hate me too much for this one, it's just how I feels.) Bridgemen (Pre Kaladin):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEQnzs8wl6E (Fade to Black - Metallica) A song about crippling apathy. A longer song, and I know people who don't like this genere of music might not be interested in listen to the whole thing, so here are the lyrics: http://www.metrolyrics.com/fade-to-black-lyrics-metallica.html Kaladin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ckom3gf57Yw (Unforgiven - Metallica) A song about a man beaten down by the world at every turn. Every time he tries to do what he thinks is right, the world breaks him. Not completely accurate, as Kaladin eventually succeeds in doing what is right, but fitting enough that I can't think of a better song for him as of yet. Lyrics: http://www.metrolyrics.com/unforgiven-lyrics-metallica.html The Parshendi, specifically when they recount when Man first came to Roshar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THWOzbl08Cg (Before the Aeons Came - Behemoth) This song definitely isn't for everyone. Very heavy metal. If it's not your thing, you might not be able to understand they lyrics even if you tried to...which is a shame, because they're awesome. It makes me think of the Parshendi recalling a time before Man was on Roshar, then recounting their coming and the nature of man with deep undertones of resentment and bitterness. Since I love the lyrics so much, I'll include them here directly. Lyrics: Before the beginning of years There came to the making of man Time, with a gift of tears Grief, with a glass that ran Pleasure, with pain for leaven Summer, with flowers that fell Remembrance fallen from Heaven And madness risen from Hell Strength without hands to smite Love that endures for a breath Night the shadow of light And life the shadow of death And the high Gods took in hand Fire and the falling of tears And a measure of sliding sand From under the feet of the years And froth, drift of the sea And dust of the laboring earth And bodies of things to be In the houses of death and of birth And wrought with weeping and laughter And fashioned with loathing and love With life before and after And death, beneath and above Edited February 4, 2015 by Frosted Flakes
Dhavaer Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I think a slightly edited version of Iron Maiden's Face In The Sand might fit for Jasnah. I see the signs They tell the truth I see the signs Of the end... So I'll watch And I'll wait And I'll search for an answer

ChullRider he/him Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Any other Avatar: the Last Airbender fans around? If so, Iroh's 'Little Soldier Boy' song for Tien. Oh. I remember that song. In some ways, it brings me close to tears, considering the context. Iroh celebrating his deceased son's birthday and all. VERY fitting for Tien.
ChullRider he/him Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Everybody can see why I picked Tarantella for Hoid, right?
Sart he/him Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 These aren't perfect fits, but I still think they're worth mentioning. Kaladin: We Are The Champions by Queen "I've served my sentence, but committed no crime." Accurately sums up Kaladin's Book Two plot. Shallan: Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler I still can't decide who the male singer in the song is, but Tyler's feeling of need and then depression sums up Shallan's mental state. Plus it keeps saying "Turn around Brighteyes"
Meg Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Tempted to give Kaladin Rider on the Storm... +1 for this! While re-reading The Way of Kings I would give Kaladin this one: Suicide is Painless (Theme of M*A*S*H) Bridge Four -- after the fight at the tower -- deserve We are the Champions (Queen) edit: Oh, I just saw that the smart guy thought of it -- please believe, I hadn't read your post completely. Sorry And I'm sure, it's not only Kaladin, the bridgemen, slaves and parshmen but lots of people not only in fiction but sadly on our world, too, that sometimes wish: MaybeThere's a world where we don't have to run And maybe There's a time we'll call our own Living free in harmony in majesty ... (from "Maybe", the theme to "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams") (Yes, I'm not one of the younger users here ) Edited February 10, 2015 by Meg
SedatedDragon Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 If there's any heavy metal/groove metal fans that read this, my band is about to record a song that will be available as a free download in the not too distant future. It will be called "The Blackthorn", and it's about exactly who you're thinking of.
Elsecaller3414 she/her Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) Hey, I just found a David Arkenstone thing called "Stormlight," on youtube, and I thought that was awesome. It sounds cool, too, but it was really long. In fact, someone split it into two parts. The links are (Part 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvyOr7jkjZ8 and (Part 2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0r7M3KDc9A. Edited May 18, 2015 by Elsecaller3414 2
Que Sera she/her Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 On my most recent re-read of the published Stormlight Archive books, I was trying to find a "reading" music station on Spotify. None of the official Spotify stations did it for me, so I searched around and found a user-made one. It appears to have been put together by a teenage boy, but I really enjoyed the tone of much of it! https://open.spotify.com/user/1233732109/playlist/3IlOqtSIQ0qr3QtFHEjCRL Another one called "Epic Heroic" has some overlapping artists from the last playlist, but it's slightly longer: https://open.spotify.com/user/1110188532/playlist/4OBgXCpNRVcwJkwAeCghPd Anyway, this song reminded me of Kaladin: https://youtu.be/uYFCp0trnPg Kind of moody, very dramatic, heavy, heroic. 1
Shard of Adonalsium Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Kaladin's would probably be this one: The Piano Sonata No 14 Opus 27 Movement 3, because it's frenzied, frantic, and strikes hard. Like him with Stormlight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqSulR9Fymg
kaellok he/him Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Alright. So I was thinking about music and stuff and listening to some a little bit. And I'm like, "Hey! This song reminds me of Hoid!" And thus created was this article. Feel free to post more music for more characters/ more music for some of the characters already listed here. Kaladin's Music: Child of LIght Hymn of Light* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6w222S7ia0 I disagree with this one--that song is so definitely Dalinar. I can describe the song in three words: Grand, Epic, Boring. (I like it, and I like Dalinar; it's just so totally not Kaladin at all, imo). I like Nightwish's songs better for Hoid. The perfect song doesn't quite exist, but End of all Hope comes close (there's at least three or four others that also come close). While I like the choices for Shallan, and have no problem with them, I think 99 Luftballons captures her personality incredibly well, too. Aggressively cheerful about horrifying and terrifying prospects (and largely because of them. Nuclear war and end of the world at a time when it seems so very, very possible/probable and all.) For Szeth, I give you Mass Effect 3's Leaving Earth. Having it be his anthem changes things so much vs if you played the ME games as religiously as I did, but still--so good, so fitting. So mournful and tragic, smooth and flowing, interrupted by blaring waves of anguish and death. Also, really, Szeth is very much like a Reaper to the Rosharans, so it fits. 2
DreamEternal Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Unless you are talking about something that happened in Yolen, I can't see how End of All Hope fits Hoid. Also, to make my own sugestions: The Golden Age, The Great Escape and Iron, all by Woodkid, fit Kaladin like a worn boot. The Golden Age fits his youth at Hearthstone, Iron his time as a slave, and The Great Escape his victory and freedom. Also by Woodkid, I belive Ghost Lights fits the Parshendi, and perhaps The Other Side if you don't interpretate the lyrics too literaly. Viva la Vida by Coldplay just screams Elhokar. Demons, by Imagine Dragons reminds me of the time Kaladin and Shallan spent together in the Chasms. 1
Moonskin she/her Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 The soundtrack of World of Warcraft fits very well with WoR; this songs makes me think of Dalinar and his expedition (after the first minute): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buzesBqDJ70 1
The One Who Reads he/him Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) No Renarin love in the whole thread? Here is his song in my opinion: Imagine Dragons - Monster (I even gave you a link with lyrics on screen). Key lines: "If I told you what I was, Would you turn your back on me?" - Renarin's fear that he is committing top-tier blasphemy (predicting the future and surgebinding) and "Can I clear my conscience, If I'm different from the rest,Do I have to run and hide?"- Renarin is a quiet contemplative individual with less then stellar physical abilities, and who happens to have three of the greatest warriors of the modern day in his family and lives in a culture which literally views war as a man's greatest Calling.
