I'll see how many I can think of... 1. Brom (Inheritance Cycle) 2. Qui-gon Jinn (Star Wars Saga) 3. Uncle Ben (any iteration of the Spider-Man origin story) 4. Falstaff (Kill Shakespeare--he dies in Vol 2 of this graphic novel series, and there are 4 Vols) 5. Spoilers for Flamecaster by Cinda Williams Chima: Han Alister--dies in the 2nd chapter. 6. Spoilers for The Final Empire: Kelsier, if we are counting the original Mistborn trilogy as one story rather than just the first book. 7. The highwayman in The Accidental Highwayman by Ben Tripp--not the title character but the character everyone else mistakes him for. I have a feeling I'm probably missing some that other people will find obvious, but I've run out of ideas for now.
Eagle of the Forest Path he/him Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 (edited) 8. the "other Uncle Ben" Obi-Wan Kenobi (original Star Wars trilogy) Does Gandalf count even though he came back to life? edit: 9. first female mentor, Moiraine Damodred (the Wheel of Time), oh wait, she came back to life too Edited June 24, 2016 by Eagle of the Forest Path
Delightful Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I'm gonna say no to Gandalf since he comes back and solves things.
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 8. Mufasa (I think, They all look so similar, so I screw up the names sometimes)
Delightful Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Okay. Fine. Yes to Gandalf and Moraine, someone come up with a new question.
Sunbird she/her Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Okay... WLIU name 15 female authors--any genre, any time period goes!

Sunbird she/her Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 First of all, @Delightful, applause for you! I'm an English language major and I would have had a hard time coming up with that many words with no vowels! Second of all, @Jondesu: This is my kind of challenge! All the Paths of Shadow (book) Blood Ties (book--actually there are several books with this title) City of Bones (book and movie) Die For Me (book) Ensnared (book) Frindle (book) Grave Peril (book) Holes (book and movie) Inkheart (book and movie) Juno (movie) In the same vein as Daniyah's question... WLIU name ten words that can be made by using the letters in the name Brandon Sanderson.

I might be able to do it if titles containing the numbers are allowed and they don't have to be the first word.
Delightful Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 @Sunbird it wasn't an English major answer ....I thought of rhythm and then suddenly remembered a primary school teacher saying that words without vowels almost always have a y replacing a vowel....and I went from there. 1 brand 2 on 3 sand 4 son 5 drab 6 brass 7 door 8 bar 9 bare 10 barre Name either ten male OR ten female romantic leads from anywhere. you can have an upvote if you can think of ten male leads who have no other purpose in the story BUT to be a romantic interest. (Again, not sure if I could do that but I pose you the challenge )

Sunbird she/her Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Hm. Ten romantic leads... Does that mean the story they're from has to be primarily a romance? Or can they just be a love interest in other genres of stories?

(Inspired by a movie I was watching all about the guy saving the girl so she can have a great life! And by the end of the movie we don't know what she's interested in, her hobbies, or if she even made it into college in the end. All we know is that she's pretty and she loves the main character. He of course is in college and is rich and all the men in the movie end up happy. . Hence my offer of upvotes if you can find male characters with that role).

I can think of romantic characters -or male leadss who have a romance- but not any male romantic leads, where the point is the romance.

While lots of books I read include romance, it's usually a subplot rather than the main plot, so the love interest has other major roles in the story besides "person the MC kisses/agonizes over."

Have neither read the book or watched any of the adaptations, so someone can tell me if I'm wrong and he doesn't meet the criteria. jW
