Sadly nah. I can't make it. Nor could I actually do NaNoWriMo anyway.

This camp is an introvert's heaven -- camp without camping! All in your own home. And you can set your own word count, too. I set mine lower than the standard 50k. :)

I just don't have time

I've got 30 hours of driving to do and no time to do them

And also art commissions/trades/other things

I've tried NaNo before. When I compared cars driving down a busy highway at night to "bright-eyed alligators prowling down an invisible river," I realized it wasn't for me. -_-

What do you mean?! I'd read that book!

What I might post ohh man.

I need some helpy help on this ol' design I'm working on

post-13849-0-16686400-1434938549_thumb.p

SO I got this thing I don't know what to call it. It lives in deep sea caves and rocks and stuff and acts like an angler fish for its prey idk I need to type more out but

How big should I make it? Was thinking about really big (like a few hands taller than an average horse? Ryshadium sized? Bigger?) or kinda small (like house cat to a medium sized dog?)

I'm just worried bc loook at what they made me i'm gushingggggg its so prettytyytyyyy

Awesome! :D Design of alien critters is kind of my forte, so I'll help any way I can.

The size of this creature largely depends on what kind of prey is available to it. Angler fish on Earth are small creatures, as food is few and far between in the dark ocean depths they hunt in. They simply do not have enough nutrition to grow very large, and so are only about three feet long at their largest.

On the other hand, the giant squid can grow to enormous sizes, as it actively hunts fish rather than passively wait for them to be lured in. If your angler wolf engages in both types of feeding behavior, you could probably get away with making it horse-sized.

Now for a slightly more presumptuous line of discussion--habitat. The design of the angler wolf is wicked cool, but lacks proper function for dwelling underwater. The lupine body plan is ideal for running on plains or in the depths of forests, but four clawed legs wouldn't be of much use to an animal that dwells in the darkest abysses of the sea. In the underwater world, a hydrodynamic design is key, as dolphins, whales, and seals can attest to.

To me, your design bespeaks an animal that lives predominantly on land, with brief forays into water to hunt. I would hesitantly speculate that the angler wolf is native to either a world that is tidally locked--that is, a world that doesn't rotate, in which one side of the planet is perpetually in daylight and the other is perpetually night--or a planet with a much slower rotation than that of Earth's, resulting in a prolonged period of darkness on the planet. Such conditions would be favorable for an animal like the angler wolf, as it could use its lights to attract prey out of the darkness but could still use its legs for traversing the landscape.

Again, this is an awesome design. I don't know how art trades like this work, but I don't think for an instant that you should be nervous about presenting this. :D

It was going to live on land. Or rather, in the caves. It can't breathe underwater and also hunts land prey. It doesn't swim well either, it waits.

(Edit) omg i can't believe i said deep sea caves im dumb and need sleep

In any case, it doesn't come out to the surface; basically its a deep cave dwelling animal. The sunlight would kill it due to the heat and the rays.

OUCH. Right in the feels.

So why is Camp Nano different to normal Nano?

It's in the summer, usually around April or July, as opposed to in November.

That's much better for my schedule, seeing as in November I always try but end up failing miserably because of schoolwork and homework and essays and whatnot. I think I'll try it out.

This is exactly why I do the Camp. November is awesome, just not while you're in school.  ;)

I may or may not be addicted to Trivia Crack. You know. In case you were wondering.

David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, is married to Georgia Moffet (who plays the Doctor's "daughter"). Georgia Moffet, in turn, is the daughter of Peter Davison who is the Fifth Doctor from Classic Doctor Who.

Indeed.  So the Doctor has married to the Doctor's daughter, who is also the Doctor's daughter.  And now, the Doctor and the Doctor's daughter have a daughter, who is yet another Doctor's daughter.
