KaladinTheKingOfHeralds He/Him Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Here’s a main question CAN SPREN ATTRACT OTHER SPREN? Though it’s never been confirmed, I have a feeling that they can My feelings come from OB when Kaladin attracts windspren in Shadesmar. Though i know yall will say: “Oh, but Kaladin isnt a spren so it doesn’t count” Forget it, Kaladin was literally standing ontop of Syl’s cabin on the ship. If Syl was never with Kaladin then he wouldn’t have ever attracted spren or gained Lashing powers or became the Windrunner so my points proven by how his abilities FROM SYL let him attract spren which makes my theory the best one so far. So yes, spren can attract CERTAIN types of spren different from their own type.

It's theoretically possible for them to even bond spren, but don't expect it to happen soon. Spoiler Kolby Bradshaw Could a spren bond another spren? Brandon Sanderson Theoretically possible, probably not a direction I'm ever going to go in the books for inception/recursive sort of weirdness reasons, but theoretically possible. Those windspren were attracted by Kaladin himself, in fact those were his platespren that were following him around and because of this thoughts about the 4th Ideal he pulled them into the Cognitive Realm from the Physical Realm. Syl didn't contribute at all, she even sensed he was doing something. Yes, Syl and Kal are bonded together, they both gain something through that bond, but just because Kaladin attracted some spren, it doesn't mean Syl is the reason for this.

I'll see if I can find the quote.
Returned he/him Posted April 28 Posted April 28 I don't see any obvious reason that it couldn't work, but even if they can it seems like they must be generally less capable of it than humans. We have some precedent for that in the Singers. Spren live in Shadesmar where we have seen humans attract spren readily, but the spren settlements are not overrun with lesser spren all the time. It is interesting that humans seem particularly capable of attracting spren. I wonder why that is.

It is interesting that humans seem particularly capable of attracting spren. I wonder why that is. I don't think it's unique. Animals (e. g. rhyshadium, chasmfiends, Ancient Guardians) can attract spren. I think it's living animals that attract them, especially smart ones. The Singers are uniquely less attractive to spren, it is implied, precisely because they are more Cognitive than humans or horses, the same reason they can take Forms and naturally hum the Songs and Pure Tones and such. It's a difference of degree, not of kind, but it seems to be real. So, Cognitive entities seem to attract other Cognitive entities less.
