Other than hiding people using allomancy what are some cool things a bronze misting could do

Bronze mistings don't hide investiture, they detect it. If you mean a coppercloud, they could certainly make some dough from it by hiding celebrities' allomancy. If you mean bronze, WoB suggests they could eventually see into the CR.

Questioner

For a double tin Twinborn, what would compounding look like? Would they be able to see microscopically? Telescopically? Past the visual light spectrum? Would they be able to see or hear into the Cognitive or Spiritual Realms?

Brandon Sanderson

Seeing or hearing into the Cognitive or Spiritual Realms, probably not, because that's much more of a Seeker ability than it is a Tineye ability. But seeing microscopic and things like that is fully within... Like, they could probably even see the axi, which is their word for atoms. If you've read Dragonsteel Prime, you know that that's a magic system. And Tineyes could do that; compounding, yeah, if you did it right, you could do that.

lol I meant copper mb

I genuinely think coppeclouds are underrated a bit. Besides hiding investiture use, you're immune to emotional allomancy which is a big deal. I personally think that immunity branches to many other forms of investiture which would all need a spoiler box.

From a social setting we see political faces bragging and even running on the fact that they cant be swayed by rioters or soothers.  This may branch out and help against duralumin feruchemy though we dont really know.

Knowledge is power in the cosmere. Seekers are masters of secrets and I would enjoy being a coppercloud just to make their day a pain in the butt.

I think there is some suggestion that the power of a copperclound could be learned or even leak over into a weaker aoe resistance to the emotional allomancy too.

Okay here are a few general cosmere spoilers and some theories I have for copper uses.

Spoiler

Spren act funny in a coppercloud. Rhythms are interfered with by a copper cloud. I would would say a coppercloud could hide an awakeners aura. I would also say a coppercloud would make everyone appear drab to someone with lifesense.

I am sure there are other applications we haven't seen yet. But I think the more invested arts start mixing the more a coppercloud could do beyond just, "you dont know we are mistings huehue".

I think it would also be useful for:

Hiding from the mind-sensing creatures of Patji.

Even more interesting, if you could conceal your actions from Shades on Threnody with a Coppercloud, you would be able to draw blood, start fires, or run as fast as you liked without drawing their ire. You'd be a legend amongst the locals, and have a significant advantage there.

Oversleep

Could a Feruchemist hide from Lifesense by storing and which metals?

Brandon Sanderson

So Lifesense on Nalthis, someone storing, what now, Investiture? Could they hide from Lifesense? Um, yeah that would work.

Oversleep

And which metals would they need to store, Investiture, Connection…

Brandon Sanderson

That would probably be Investiture, that’s theoretically plausible, hiding your entire sense, a little bit easier with a copper cloud, which is how you would normally go about it, but you could make your Investiture vanish to the point that… yeah I think that’s theoretically possible.

Oversleep

So Lifesense works on Connection?

Brandon Sanderson

Lifesense works by sensing… life, so it’s not necessarily just Connection because you can go off-world from Nalthis and still sense the life to which you are not Connected.

Can a Smoker block an Awakener's lifesense?

Brandon Sanderson

That will work, yes.

If a coppercloud was near an Awakener, would they dampen the effect of the colors being deepened around them?

Brandon Sanderson

I haven't thought about that. Yes. That one is a tenuous yes, though, I would have to think about it.

Hope that helps

This is possible to learn but it's very hard and isn't a standard power of Smokers:

Spoiler

Questioner

Also speaking of continutiy...

Brandon Sanderson

Uh oh.

Questioner

This is a very very minor spoiler. It's just a statement that was made in Alloy of Law, that Smokers could...

Brandon Sanderson

Oh yeah, that was just a typo

Questioner

Is that going to change things?

Brandon Sanderson

Wait, go ahead and say it.

Questioner

Can Copperclouds shield others' emotions?

Brandon Sanderson

Oh okay. Did we put that in Alloy of Law in the Ars Arcanum? Is that where you read it?

Questioner

I forget. I don't remember where it is.

Brandon Sanderson

I believe it’s in the Ars Arcanum, which in Alloy of Law was put together by Peter. And that’s mostly a mistake, though the thing is the Role Playing Game came to me and said “Is it feasible that this could happen?” And I said “It’s perhaps feasible, but only a very rare individual could make this work if they knew exactly what they were doing.” And so I said “Yeah, go ahead, but make it a power that someone really has to know what they’re doing to make it work.” And so they put it in, and so Peter assumed that it was canon, that anyone can do it, but that’s not what I intended.

Questioner

So would it be easier to say that somebody discovered they could do it and now they are training copperclouds to do it?

Brandon Sanderson

I would say that it is viable that someone could figure it out, but it would be a very difficult thing to train, and it is not a common Coppercloud—A common Coppercloud isn’t going to be able to be doing it, and almost no Mistborn will ever be capable of doing it, they just don’t focus on that metal enough to learn it. Of course, there aren’t Mistborn around anymore. So it is a possible power, it is plausible, but it is not the standard. Perhaps I will allow it to become the standard eventually, but it’s not right now. It would be much easier to wear a tinfoil hat. (laughter) Aluminum, aluminum. Which does work.
