"Fish have scales and gills and live underwater. Mammals have hair and lungs, and instead of laying eggs give live birth."

Covia pursed her lips. "I have scales and gills and live underwater. And also hair and lungs." She eyed Aniya like the other woman had said something disturbing. "And we don't lay eggs. Not sure what you mean by a live birth, though."

"That's why you're called a mermaid in my world - part mammal, part fish. If you don't mind me asking... how were you born?"

"I appeared in the Sanctuary, like anyone."

"Is that not how it works for you?"

"No.. there is an action that two people do that, essentially, plants a seed inside of the mother of a child. They develop inside of their mother for nine months before being born."

"The mother? We don't have mothers." She laughed. "You people are like fish! Except you don't lay eggs, I guess. Huh. So then, the babies just comes out?"

"From what I've been told, it's a painful process, and there is a lot of effort on the part of the mother, but.. essentially, yes. So.. what is the Sanctuary?"

"It's... where our souls get renewed. And supposedly where we originally came from, too."

“Yeah…” She backed up as the platypus got closer. “Do you have any idea what this thing is?”

"Oh, that's a platypus. Even on my world, it's different than most creatures."

It finished the worm and made a noise. It was a noise that a normal platypus would make.

Aria squatted down, extending a pencil and poking it experimentally. “It’s not…like…a person, is it?”

After getting poked, it decided it didn't like that very much and walked back to the pool.

"Really? That's so weird!"

Covia watched the creature and giggled. "It looks so silly!"

It was now swimming around. Unfortunately, there was no otter for it to play with.

“It’s me, Ftrell!” He calls out to Ftrell. “Here to talk about magic!”

You heard something from Ftrell, but you couldn't tell what she said. Pherid, however, had a LOT to say about you being there. "Oh its HIM! Ftrell, if you open that door i swear to US!"

You get it? Because Pherid thinks they're a god? Haha?

“Meet and greet, I guess.”

"Well alright. What brings you to this ho..."

Just around a corner Samuel catches a peek of some papers being dragged away

"Sorry I gotta go nice meeting you!"

And Samuel runs after the papers. He rounds the corner, and stops dead in his tracks. Holding his papers is a little puffball of a creature.

"Hi there little guy. What... are you?"

Samuel approaches slowly, and crouches down. "Baat!"

It makes a cute little noise and with a tiny little hand gives him his papers.

"Awwww you're so cute. Here, have a cracker."

He pulls out a random cracker he's been storing in his pocket.

It happily chomps down, and in the blink of an eye the cracker is gone. It then crawls up his legs and plops down happily on his head.

"Oh, you want to come with me?" "Baat!" "Great! I'm gonna head back to my room and fill out this paperwork."

As Samuel goes back up the stairs, he sees some guy yelling at someone's door. @CoderDrag0n8 "You might want to knock!" He yells as he is passing by. Eventually he arrives at his room.

She paused to think. This wasn't something she'd really had to explain to anyone before, so she thought about how it was told to her. "When we die, our souls live on and return to the Sanctuary. There we gain new bodies, new selves, new lives. We are renewed."

"So like... reincarnation?"

Covia's eyes went wide. "Woah. That's crazy! How can that many people live in one place?"

Quote

Yeah, just a fictional YouTube Minecraft role-play earth

"Well, they're spread out pretty far, except for a couple of places."

She still looked completely shocked. "How do you keep track of everyone?"

"Well, there are several continents, a large land mass, that people live on, and those are split politically into smaller countries. Generally countries hold a census to determine population. I live in a smaller city, though."

Covia went quiet, taking in the onslaught of ideas and implications.
