There is a video I watched once that theorised that the others are Experience and Sacrifice.

I may have also seen the same thing, thought I felt that ‘Experience’ fills much the same niche as ‘Change’ does.

I've assumed there's one to create, one to change, one to preserve (Like the Trimurti in Hinduism) and a 4th X factor, like feel or something.

Experience feels like feel

Experience is like... feel?

I don't know what I'm saying.

Okay, Aethers, since that's something we should do. There's 12, we know half, and some that I think we should fill the rest in. They're not actually the 10 essences +2, but I think that's our best option for guesswork.

  1. Crimson:  Bright red spines that are needle sharp and deadly. Corral? (Sinew)
  2. Zephyr: Air. Air (Zephyr)
  3. Verdant: Vines. Plants (Pulp)
  4. Sunlight: Light and Heat. The Sun (Spark)
  5. Roseite: Crystal: Stones (Lucentia)
  6. Midnight: Midnight essence: Creativity? Identity?

    Guesswork.

  7. Noxious: Poisonous Gas (Vapor)
  8. Slick: Flammable Oil (Tallow)
  9. Adamant: Metal... Steel? (Foil)
  10. Craig: Bone-White stone. (Talus)
  11. Caustic: Acid (Blood)
I have no idea what to do for #12. thoughts?

Crimson already covers one noncanon aether, we could potentially use the other to inspire the hypothetical Foil/Talus aether.

Spoiler

Coprate aether is very unlikely. I doubt it. I was more thinking the light aether.

Well, yes. Bestarin has the flesh role taken by Crimson, Ferrous might be taken by either stone or metal. Probably metal, cuz the name. (I’m saying, you could take the physical traits of Corpates as inspiration for the material the Ferrous aether would produce.)

The problem with Illuminous is that, like Ferrous and Bestarin, I don’t think they match the way canon aethers seem to work.

The canon aethers all produce material, right? I’m fairly certain all Illuminous is seen to do is teleport other people (unless I forgot to add any other effects to my notes). And, like the others, its relation to light is taken by the Sunlight aether.

Just had a thought... the black hole will emit... Invested Hawking Radiation

From pairs of anti-Investiture and Investiture

So some of the radiation will be anti-Investiture

Which means that if someone could collect all the radiation and separate it, you could forge anti-Alphium. Maybe.

Maybe 12 produces cogitative mists- or like illusion?

If sticking to Ten Essence inspiration, I think that would be a better fit for the ‘Vapor’ role than poisonous gases would be. Poison doesn’t speak to me as an aether ability, really. Same thing with Acid for blood, doesn’t sit well.

What the twelfth would be is a mystery to me. I’d prefer it not resemble any of the others, but then, Roseite, ‘Foil’, and ‘Talus’ inspire similar images to me, too.

Eh, maybe poisonous substance could work for an aether. Iunno. And, if using Ten Essence inspiration, ‘Blood’ covers all non-oil liquids, so who anything can fill that space.

For a Cognitive effect for Vapor, it might fit to be granted similarly effects to Allomantic copper, to resist supernatural detection. Maybe more effective at dampening sound, too.

I've seen Blood as midnight essence, but that leaves us with two big ??? I've tried to differentiate them a bit.

Crimson:  Bright red spines that are needle sharp and deadly. (Sinew)
Zephyr: Air. (Zephyr)
Verdant: Vines. (Pulp)
Sunlight: Light and Heat. (Spark)
Roseite: Crystal:(Lucentia)
Mirage: Illusion (Vapor)
Slick: Flammable Oil (Tallow)
Adamant: all 16 metals? (Foil)
Craig: White, chalky stone in the shape of bony growths. (Talus)
Caustic: Acid (Blood)
Midnight: Midnight essence
12..... 🤷‍♂️

I would not say that Midnight would fit as a Blood corollary, I think. I have conflicting thoughts. (Aether of Night, her and in future:)

Spoiler

Like, obviously Midnight is a very odd aether. I’m tempted to include some form of Illuminous, and have them be the two odd ones out, to reference their heightened state above the others in Aether of Night.

If one were to do this, then Sunlight would be more heat/fire aligned than light, but the name Sunlight and its implications stops me from supporting an Illuminous inclusion.

I would not ascribe ‘illusion’ as a description for a ‘Vapor’ aether. I don’t think whatever valor the aether would produce should do anything hyper-magical, besides it’s own inherently magical effects. Like anti-Lifesense and  physical abnormalities. Like, illusion should certainly not reflect illusions of light, and I don’t think it’s be right to have it produce any intense mind-altering effect.

A ‘Foil’ aether should produce its own special metal, not any random old metal, I think. More in-line with other aethers that way, I think. (Zephyr making mundane(?) breathable air is odd, as it’s a mundane material, but Roseite crystal and Verdant vines are surely not just any old quartz or plant, they’re their own thing.)

Spoiler

And it’s name should totally be ‘Ferrous’. Fits perfectly, and it’s an homage.

I still don’t like feel of acid as a representative Blood, but any non-aqueous liquid would theoretically fit. Yet, surely it would not be regular blood, because Crimson producing coral as a Sinew/flesh analogue was specifically so aetherbound wouldn’t be walking around making massive piles of gore, if I recall right. I struggle to think of a substantive alternative.

And, holy, I have nothing for any potential twelfth. All Ten Essence slots are filled, so no use there, so it’s could just be any old mundane thing.

Silk? The aether strain could be called ‘Seri’ as in sericulture.

Spoiler

I'm afraid the mods could stike me down If I call it Ferrous, lol. It's technically a spoiler. Not in any way that matters, but the 17th shard spoiler policy seems to be that any info that comes from a book is a spoiler. I don't like that, but that's what I was told. For example, a spoiler from emberdark that I asked and was told to tag is: (You can read this, it spoils nothing)

We can pick a metal, like dragonsteel esq, perhaps. Maybe mercury?

I like it being its own unique thing. A pseudo-steel with vague Investiture traits, like a Godmetal or Dragonsteel might have. It being a liquid metal like mercury’d be odd, I think.

Names… Chalybis? Steel vibes.

Spoiler

A Ferrous equivalent for steel, instead of iron. Evil mods.

Well, it's technically Greek for steel and iron, but that's not relevant

Yeah, but it being liquid would be cool. And control of liquids is never not a good thing- it's more interesting than yet another solid metallic form of invesiture.

Well, all solid Investiture is metallic, but perhaps it being a liquid could be neat. Either way one goes, I think, it would be similar in style to the Tallow and Blood aethers, or the Amberite and Talus aethers. Producing a liquid or a solid.

Not all just most. Aethers are an example otherwise. They break some of those rules.

A clarification, all solid material of pure-Investiture would be metallic. Aethers are weird because they’re not really(?) Investiture, but like this odd esoteric Investiture-utilizing material.

Like Dragonsteel, theoretically. Though I can’t say I’m burnt out on metallic Investiture material, and would be perfectly content with a solid Foil aether.
