It is typically in December in Salt Lake City, UT and the tickets should cost between 100 and 125 dollars this year I think 17 minutes ago, Thee insane said: also is the worldhopper ball a part of that? The worldhopper ball, so far as I understand, was a one-time thing. So no. 3

Quantus he/him Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 Also FYI they are calling the convention Dragonsteel Nexus moving forward, I think just to distinguish it from the rest of the Dragonsteel organization and events and whatnot. 3

Yeah, the worldhopper ball will be a recurring event for adults at the Dragonsteel Nexus cons.

Yeah probably this will be the case for all future years. 1

Off the top of my head, the reason I can come up with doesn't make sense. If it was an event serving alcohol it would be 21+. Usually if I see something marked 18+ it's for something with...shall we say, "adult" content. But that would surprise me if that were the case for the worldhopper ball. Is it just to keep a certain air of gravitas about the event? If so, I feel like the organizers underestimate the fangirliness of their adult fanbase.

I think it's mostly this, though I'm not sure of the official reason. They also take a lot of photos during the event and post them online, so that may be part of it. From the FAQ: Quote In our efforts to provide a desired event ambience and guest comfort, as well as follow local laws, we have elected to limit the Worldhopper Ball to adults only (those 18 years of age or older). While we understand this can be a disappointment to fans nearing—but not yet—18 years of age, we are happy to provide an abundance of scheduled events, craft options, panels, and a well-stocked gaming room at Dragonsteel Nexus. Our convention provides many options to keep tweens and teens occupied, and we look forward to seeing these young fans join our annual Worldhopper Ball in future years as they reach legal adulthood! 1

And yeah, photo consent could definitely also be part of it, I hadn't thought of that.
