"True."

She slowed her pace until the others caught up.

"Seemed like y'all were having a private conversation, and I didn't want to intrude," she smiled.

"That's alright. It's not very private."

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

"For . . . book addicts? How serious were the addictions?"

"It's a bit complicated. The books are connected to a whole suite of magical abilities."

“Yeah. Well- branfandonitis. Sometimes it got so bad people couldn’t focus on their own lives.”

"Strange. But cool."

"I wasn't involved initially and didn't want to butt in later, so . . ." she shrugged.

"I went there in part because I was in a slump. I didn't know the whole truth of what had happened to my home world and spent years researching and travelling. I was tired, and alone."

"It was in a sort of pocket dimension, which was collapsed and destroyed by one of its gods. My best friend was involved somehow, though I never found out exactly how."

A sympathetic look overcame her face.

"Still. Things like that . . . don't ever heal completely."

Elan nods in agreement. “I’m sorry about your homeworld. That’s awful.”

TAAron didn't know how to respond to all of them. He wasn't used to talking about his past so much.

“I think that’s the most I’ve ever learned about you.”

“Nice to meet you too.”

TAAron returned to silence as they walked. He might have teleported to the city to get out of the rain, but he couldn't be sure how the locals would take that. Unfortunately, he had no idea how to apply his powers to shield Haly and himself from the pelting drops either.

TAAron returned her to her feet. "Sorry you got woken up. Hopefully we can find a place to rest for longer at the city."

“It’s okay. Thanks for carrying me.” She stuck close to his side, holding the umbrella up above him.
