I would like to vote for Amethyst Scorpion for the Freestyle 200.

And to follow the trend, Coral Swan for the Balance Beam.

The spirit wandered, finding many things. It had been in the city for as long as it could remember. Never before though, had this happened. It didn’t understand
A man yelled, “Do you think you can beat France with this effort? You’re going to go out there and
show them that the Australian half-court basketball team matters! Now, run it again! And let’s see some hustle.”

The spirit understood people like him. It wanted to know what he did

The man yelled, “No, no, not like that! Maley, you run over here for the play, and Wilson, you-“ A glassy film came over his eyes and he went quiet. It was easy to remove him and set him aside. The spirit still relished the man’s anger.

The body said, “You know what, it looks like you have it down. Rest a bit, then come back at two.

The spirit - the body - wandered together. A better sort of wandering, the spirit thought. Even though all things were made, construction always remains. Even though all things were celebrated, traces of pomp and ceremony contaminated the cool morning air.

As it walked along the river, up from where it didn’t see - that would take getting used to, places it didn’t see, a person called to it, “John! John McClane! I didn’t expect to run into you here!”

The person was unusually tall, but out of shape. He looked more like a tourist than an actual competitor. He wore a silver badge, which read Thomas Halsen, New Zealand Olympic Committee Water Sports Coordinator.

“Hey Tom,” the body said, “I didn’t expect to see you either. I was just taking a walk, trying to clear my head before the group stage starts tomorrow.”

“Hey, I know what’ll distract you. Do you want to bet on the 400 Free?”

“Don’t you have someone in that? It’s a bit unprofessional to be gambling against your own swimmers.”

“No qualifiers this year,” Halsen said with a shrug. He continued, “Just a gentleman’s bet though, okay? And if our picks don’t win, nothing happens.”

“Sounds good. I’m going to be a little unpatriotic, but I think Ari’s a little old to be winning much.”

“You want me to tell her you said that?”

The spirit panicked a little at that, digging through what the body knew, then saying, “I mean, she said it herself. She’s 35. Crazy good, yes, but going against 20 year olds. Ledecky had already retired by that age. I think she can get bronze or silver, but not gold.

“So who are you betting on?”

“You first, then I’ll tell you.”

“Scorpion, all the way. She’s the clear favorite. It’s not rocket science.”

“Trust me on this, Cerulean Squid.”

“Okay…” Halsen said, raising an eyebrow. He didn’t have the heart to tell John that Squid didn’t exist.

Luckily someone has the heart to tell Onyx that Onyx exists!

Cerulean Squid would be a nice anon name, tbh.

@Amethyst Scorpion, you still around?

This does seem to be a fairly gambity game, now that I have time to think (citation needed). But also what to do, what to do. It's quiet uptown...

Gambits, like stealing people's bodies? I would never.

Stephen Ned wasn’t exactly what you’d call a typical gymnast. In fact, he had realized that pretty early in his career. Born with visual impairments, depth perception was a tricky thing for him, as was his sensitivity towards light. It wasn’t ideal for a sport that demanded perfect timing and awareness.

He discovered this the hard way - finding himself average, at best, in almost every event. He could manage a vault, sure. But that wasn’t his thing. Floor routines? More like floor disasters. His balance was shaky. Rings? Forget it. He wasn’t even sure where the rings were half the time.

But then… the Horse. It wasn’t like the other events. Somehow, despite everything, the Horse clicked. Something about it felt right. It was his sweet spot. He’d discovered, almost accidentally, that his unique set of challenges made him a natural at swinging, rotating, and twisting his way through the routine, with what could only be described as a strange, raw beauty.

Soon enough, he was the Pommel Horse Guy, the Gymnast with Glasses. His country’s and possibly, the world’s first Pommel Horse specialist, sitting with a Rubik’s Cube in his hands and awaiting his turn.

Curse you people, role-playing characters you never signed up with. Even if they are real people. How am I supposed to know who you are?

Also, if the former occupant of this body was the one to give my last post a rep, you're amazing. If not, you're still amazing, but it's less ironic.

"I think I'll take you up on that one Roger. Being this year's guest and all, I think I should be extravagant. Coral Swan and Indigo Weasel have it in the bag in their respective sports."
