Reputation

I am somewhat new to the 17thshard, but I noticed it says (11) Bridgeman under reputation and I was wondering how to get more? Or what reputation even is?

See that little grey heart at the bottom of other people's posts? If you click that, you give them one reputation point. Basically it's just a way to "like" a post or comment. You can't click your own, but other people can.

Reputation is kind of like reddit karma, if you know what that is. When you like a post, click the grey heart. The titles are based of how  much rep you have. There's a thread around here somewhere that has them all.

Thank you so much! I just have one question, when I was liking things on older posts it didn't up my reputation. Do you know why?

Reputation is what other people add to your posts, so when you give reputation it adds to their count. For example: Your Intro Post has been given 4 rep. 

The first link in the section quoted above (Discussed here) is a thread with people discussing why they chose to give rep to a post (or not). If you search them out in this forum, you will also find threads about Reputation limits (only giving 20 per day) and discussions on how this feature affects the forum (positive and negative influences).
