Why is she so tolerant of smugglers anyway?

her brother was one, and she also understands people need to get things that are against the rules,  but not immoral, like wine or smth

"You look lost, anything I can do for you, Visitor?"

Olea blinked at the human, somewhat surprised. She was a good foot and a half taller than most humans, but that wasn't super uncommon for the alien species that visited the system.

"I'm looking for the Office of Contact and Relations," she said, trying to keep her natural vocal warble from leaking into her English. "I heard this station was the headquarters for it's operations in the outer Sol system?"

"The OCR? Yes. This is their headquarters." Lucia frowns before continuing "Extra-Judicial bastards."

Olea blinked. She didn't know that last word, but got the jist of what it was used for.

I'm stepping into quite the mess here...Olea couldn't help but feel somewhat out of her depth.

"So..." she tenatively said. "Can you tell me where their offices are?"

"I'll do you one better. I'll take you to them myself. I was going that way anyway to lodge a complaint."

"Anyway. Do you have the official English lexicon or the user-made one?" Lucia asks "The official one is fine for diplomacy, but if you want to actually speak to people..."

"Your translator, I mean. I applaud your efforts to learning English the old-fashioned way, but having a translator helps fill in some gaps. I'm guessing you don't know Bastard?"

"...No." Oh, the translator. She tapped the device at the top of her staff. "This can perform translations if I need it to. I have it deactivated right now."

"Mh. Bastard is an insult. Means impure, but also just unpleasant." Lucia smiles at a passing boy, tossing him a candy. They take a left turn into a dingy hallway "This is a shortcut."

Olea nodded.

...This would be a really good way to get a person like you mugged, she suddenly realized.

She sighed internally. Well...it wasn't like she had any money on her. Then again, her staff could be sold for a lot...she kept a tight hand on it's shaft, and a suspicious eye on Lucia.

Worse comes to worse, you can handle them for long enough to escape. ...Winds below, if I do get mugged and Sonia gets word of it, I'll never hear the end of it...

Seeing Olea's nervousness, Lucia notes "You're perfectly safe with me. I highly doubt anyone would dare mug me or anyone nearby me."

With that, they keep walking down the dimly lit hallway, and a strange groan sounds from their right.

Olea wasn't quite reassured, but it was nice to know the woman thought so.

"Why is that, if I may ask?" She said, before turning to the strange sound.

...That's probably nothing, right?

Lucia chuckles "I'm the Governor of this Station. Which means I have a license to actually be armed, and have the power to make their lives a living hell. You can't run far on a station you know."

Rutherfus Etherford swaggered up to them, cane clacking on the floor beside him. His bedraggled beard nearly touched the collar of his jacket, which he wore over a bare, hairy chest. "Whatchall doin? Looking at dead varmints?"

He cackled like this was the funniest thing in the world.

"Taking a shortcut. You might want to check out that wall. It's making strange noises."

"Yup. I technically have the power to be judge jurry and executioner, but that's only in theory. I've only used it once."

"Don't mind them, @The Bookwyrm. Some people weren't built for space, and crack under the lack of pressure."

He narrowed his eyes at the wall and knocked on it. @TwinStorm

Lucia was never supposed to be governor Out of Charchter, but enough people called her one so why not.

She'll die one day soon anyway. @Through The Living Glass how's that monster going?
