scudalarm Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 TLDR: Is there an explanation why the power of Odium wanted the spren/unmade Ba-Ado-Mishram as a vessel, while the power of Honor did not consider the Stormfather? I wanted to make a pun with the movie There's something about Mary, then I realized it's a 26 year old movie, so not sure how many people know of it. There might be a WOB I have not read regarding this, if there is, can I get a link. I had an assumption that being a sapient creature one of requirements for a vessel, so both should be in the running, but the Stormfather was not truly considered as possible vessel. Also I'm confused about BAM's mindset/attitude, all I see was she truly cared for the singers and hated the humans before imprisonment then hated everything during her incarceration, I don't see that as enough to make her a prime candidate as Odium's Next Top Vessel. Was absorbing the power from the well of control really that potent? Also I'm guessing she's still a treat to Taravangian's hold on the power of Odium. 1
Isilel Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 The Stormfather's association with Tanavast prevented Honor's power from considering him, I imagine. As to Mishram, there are some mysteries about her - like, why is she such a good fit for Odium despite having been kind and compassionate in the past? As well as desirous of peace, something that Odium's power shouldn't like? How is it that Odium's investiture taken from his well of power poisoned the Heralds and pushed them towards cruel and evil actions, but didn't have the same effect on Mishram? Did Rayse off-load some of Odium's softer emotions onto her? What or who has she been Unmade from? Etc. All to be revealed in Arc 2, I imagine. 1

Was absorbing the power from the well of control really that potent? Also I'm guessing she's still a treat to Taravangian's hold on the power of Odium. Because the Stormfather merged with Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow, a person who was rejected as a Vessel of Honor. For the power, accepting the Stormfather as the Vessel would be the same as accepting Tanavast once again. I don't think Mishram hated humans before her imprisonment. She was shown to be caring for fallen humans, calming them down when they were dying, regretting that she can't heal them. She also wanted to make permanent peace with humanity, to end Desolations forever. She passionately cared for Singers as she knew Odium didn't care for them and that certainly was a factor for the power of Odium. But the main reason was probably because she Ascended to the power of Odium in his perpendicularity. This attuned her more to Odium and made her a desirable Vessel (just like Vin became attuned to Preservation when she Ascended at the Well of Ascension. At the same time Rayse was struggling to control the power. He was in conflict with the power, the power hated that they were stuck on Roshar. The power also liked being questioned and liked arguments (unlike Rayse) and Mishram's actions directly questioned the authority of Rayse, she threw a gauntlet at his face claiming to be a new god that was to replace him. The power certainly like that about her. Moreover, unlike Rayse, when Mishram was questioned by the Listeners, she actually reconsidered her position and since then had worked to establish peace. All those small moments were something that the power of Odium liked and combining it with her Ascension at the well, which attuned her to the power, it made her a desirable candidate for the Vessel. RoW I-2: Quote You question? Do not question. “I will not question.” However, she felt a surging to the power that moved within him. The mind did not like being questioned, but the power … It liked questions. It liked arguments. It was passion. There was a weakness here. In the division between the Vessel and the Shard. RoW ch 112: Quote “I would prefer,” Odium said, “to make an agreement.” Why so eager? Dalinar thought. It’s the power, isn’t it? It’s ripping you apart for delaying. It wants out. HoA Epilogue epigraphs: Quote Nobody else could draw upon the mists. I have determined this. Why were they open to Vin and not others? I suspect that she couldn't have taken them all in until after she'd touched the power at the Well of Ascension. It was always meant, I believe, to be something of an attuning force. Something that, once touched, would adjust a person's body to be able to accept the mists.
scudalarm Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 For some reason the analogy I thought off was, Tanavast as Honor setup the Stormfather as his automated out of office reply while he went on an extended vacation. Also I guess the power of Honor really wanted to break off with anything to do with Tanavast. As for BAM and the rest of the Unmade, I really do hope we get more on the back half.
