Lisa Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 So what you think is future for this two? Is it over for good or was it all a set up for sa arc 2 where Jasnah will be main character? At the end of the book Wit said in his thoughts that he loves Jasnah, Jasnah also said multiple times that she enjoyed their relationship, Wit was said to be fond of it too. So only set back was that Wit kept lying in other words he didn't completely put his armor down. But Jasnah mentioned that she wrote letter because she didn't want to argue with him, so Wit will be against break up. And she mentioned that he would be angry about it. And his letter sounded sad and regretful. So was this all to set their relationship and conflict for arc 2? Problem is lying, we know that Wit will return to Roshar and his order is literally about truths + in his letter he acknowledged lying as his main flaw. Hoid is one if not the most important character in cosmer so if he's to have a character development it seems likely to be in cosmer's magnum opus that is sa. I also find it interesting that in Way of Kings Prime Jasnah was in love with Taln who was in love with her. Taln is also immortal and his conflict was that he loved Jasnah but he put roshar as a whole higher than anything else. And that's literally Wit's arc in wat. He mentioned multiple times that with teras yes but he will let roshar burn. But in last chapters he says that it was always his belief but in the end he wasn't so sure. So I think Jasna and Taln was original idea that get scrapped but same as Taln's arc or character concept or idea from prime went to Dalinar in wok, the idea of immortal who puts overall over personal went to Wit's character. I don't think that Sanderson will go with Jasnah/Taln in original series because he mentioned that prime will be released only when all possible spoilers happen. It's already released so Jasnah/Taln seem no longer to be a spoiler. And he wouldn't likely make her fall in love with Taln in arc 2 because they will have very similar conflict to Jasnah/Wit and he already said that he dislike to repeat ideas, like when Taln's madness idea went to Dalinar in book 1 he said that he changed Taln's concepts so it would not repeat with Dalinar. Prime is overall very different. Navani wasn't in book at all and Adolin died in book 1. So I assume that Jasnah and Wit are set up for arc 2 From author's point of view making character admitt they love someone then saying that they will return to Roshar looks a lot like set up. I not exactly say that Jasnah and Wit could have a happy ending, what I am trying to say is that I think they are meant to be each other main love interests overall and will have interactions and development in arc 2. Tell me everything you think! I have no friends who read sa and I want discussion 1
Inevitability Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Get your butter because their relationship is toast! 4
Elder Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Oh, I think she might deck him when she sees him again… then hug him. they may try again.
Bigmikey357 he/him Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Personally I think their relationship has passed into the Beyond. Wit is an immortal with some very ossified thought patterns. He is almost literally incapable of giving Jasnah what she craves in a partner, openness and honesty. Then there's the intimacy issue. And after her humbling by Retribution I'm pretty sure she is over immortal beings now. 4
agailee Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 For my sake, I hope you're right! I had practically the exact same train of thought when I finished WaT.

Tell me everything you think! I have no friends who read sa and I want discussion Honestly, Jasnah will be a pretty different person by SA6. We've left her to rebuild her entire worldview. I would say that a past relationship will probably be waaaaaay down her list of priorities in the years that will pass between 5 and 6. Could she decide that she'd like to get back together with Wit/Hoid, yeah, but I doubt it, but even that I'm in no way sure of. Honestly, I'm going to have to get to know Jasnah (if not all, a sizable portion of her) over again in 6 and beyond, before I would feel comfortable making any call like that.
LeondeBowa Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 I mean, a relationship with taln isn't impossible at this point, it could happen in the back 5. I think that relationship would be too close to old thought patterns for the new jasnah, too much temptation to let old thoughts take precident again

While I agree that this isn’t impossible, I’m not sure why we would expect a Taln/Jasnah ship other than it happening in the unpublished first version of Way of Kings before Sanderson rewrote the whole thing. And I don’t find that to be a very compelling reason, personally.
