Maria nodded. "You keep an ear out, too. Let us know if it comes back."

The room beyond was well lit by glass windows that looked into the area surrounded by the contianment building. There were no trees in that small clearing; only a few patches of grass and dead pine needles. And in the center, a deep pit.

Strange machines that looked like satellite dishes stood in a circle around the hole, several feet from it's edge, pointing down at it's yawning gape. Maria recognized the devices; used for the monitoring and directing of anomalous frequencies. She didn't understand all the science jargon that described how they worked. She just knew what they did and how to use them.

And these ones were deactivated.

She glanced around the room. It was circular, running along the inner edge of the containment building, with several doors leading into the clearing with the hole itself. Through the glass wall Maria could look across and see the opposite side.

A number of devices for monitoring and containing anomalous energies - nonphysical forces - stood around the room. An apparatus, all designed to keep whatever that hole did under control. The entire thing was deactivated.

Is this why containment was breached? Was it really just an equipment shutdown?

She slowly pulled out her handgun, like Kastel. There was no sign of anyone or anything in the room, and despite the deactivated machinery, all seemed to be in the same pristine condition as the rest of the facility. Despite this, there was an unshakeable sense of unease she felt. She couldn't tell if it was an anomalous effect or her own nerves, which bothered her.

"Fan out," she called to her team. "Look for anything out of the ordinary. See if you can find out why the appratus got shut down. I'll take a look at the hole."

I keep on writing Dint…

I have 2 rp characters named that, as well as a book character, so…

Kastel nodded, then walked a monitor, studying it.

It seemed to be connected to one of the monitoring devices, because it simply read "Device Not Detected".

Kastel studied around the monitor, searching for wires. Maybe it was the radio jamming that caused this… the device could have been unable to send the signal.

Wires ran from the monitor to one of the detection devices. The wire seemed to be perfectly intact.

Kastel approached one of the detection devices, aiming at the Rim with his handgun as he approached. He swallowed, slightly unnerved.

The device it's connected to is still inside the building. It's essentially a metal box. The satellite-disk-like machines are inside the clearing.

If he were to turn the things on or investigate closely, would Tim notice anything out of the ordinary? Like any sort of tampering or signs of an anomaly overloading it or something?

Tim walked over to the devices pointing into the Rabbit hole. He wasn't sure what he was going to do with them, but he might as well get a closer look. Even though it wasn't his exact area of expertise, he still knew a decent amount about technology.

The hole is called The Rabbit Hole, the entire facility is titled The Rim.

Maria followed Tim outside to the clearing surrounding the Rabbit Hole. She started looking around.

...Nothing seems out of the ordinary...

Out of curiosity, Tim got dangerously close to the edge of the Rabbit Hole so he could look into it.

"Yup. That's definitely a big hole."

He couldn't shake the feeling that something was in the hole, beckoning him to fall into it.

"Careful," Astrid warned from across the room.

As he started walking away from the hole, he stumbled and leaned precariously over the edge for just a second.

Maria grabbed him by the collar and pulled him back. She frowned.

"Careful...why don't you go check the wiring on the devices." She didn't want him almost tripping in again.

Are there any specific signs of something out of the ordinary that Tim finds or are they just normal wires normally wiring?

"O-okay," he said, a little rattled.

Tim moved closer to one of the devices to look at the wiring. He took out a multitool he had remembered to bring and used it to pry off a panel that was covering the wires.

There didn't seem to be anything wrong with the hardware. It just wasn't functioning. As if it had been switched off.

alright

Tim didn't see anything wrong with the wires, so he stood up to investigate the surrounding area.

@Ookla the Ouroboros mind if I make up an anomaly for a quick gag? tldr; a cheese wheel that overheats camera devices to the point of exploding when you take a picture of it. also hammerspace.

Crow is trying to get footage of the place, but he doesn't quite grasp the camera app yet. He ends up taking a picture of a cheese wheel, then roaming around with it on night vision mode. Eventually, he tries to get footage of the hole, only for the phone to finally reach a point where it gets too hot for his gloves, starting to sizzle and- POP! "YIP!" he exclaims before dropping the scalding hot phone, that falls in a bucket, bounces out of the bucket, into the hole, then goes ka-BOOM, launching Crow backwards.

"Hmm." he mutters, noticing his boiling gloves, before pulling an old-timey news camera from... somewhere?

Matthew sighed, looking around. "Look for signs of eldritch influence." he directed. This was where he shined. Search and destroy.

Heheheh

He better not say that out loud

The "destroy" mentality is not widespread in the ARC; they're more about containment than destruction.

But it fits his character, so I like it.
