(Spoilers for Mistborn) Spoiler Kelsier shows both the difficulty in a Cognitive Shadow becoming a Vessel, as well as the difficult in a Vessel that is not adequately Connected to the Shard's intent. Nale attempting to pick up Odium would have at least as many problems controlling that Shard as Kelsier had controlling Preservation. Hope that helps. 2

Nale would be incapable of Ascending to Odium because he lacks emotions and due to this he lacks the understanding of what Odium really is.
