The seaweed is rather unappetizing anyway, slimy and salty, but the base taste is pretty good. You notice that you are inedible now, too. The fish scatter, but you've still lost a lot of blood and are pumped full of sedative.

Varel, still just as woozy as before, swims up to the bank, and lays down, too exhausted to move.

@Through The Living Glass, I think.

The seagrass makes you inedible for about ten minutes after you eat it. The countdown starts when it dies, though.

Third is still riding a deepwalker to the HQ, when Magic grabs his lab coat and takes off. "Hey!" Third cries, "Where are you going? I need you! I'll die! Come back..." He is just starting to cry when the deepwalker sinks below the waves, turns around, and swallows him whole.

No. The plant stops working ten minutes after it dies, so you can't carry it around and expect it to keep the magic. But it is telling everyone it's inedible for a reason...

"Alrighty, now we have to follow it back down to the ocean," Sharlin explained, double-checking the selected stream was the second largest.

"Mr. Evil said there'd be a cave on down there, and that's where the gift is."

She started following the stream, cutting throw shrubbery and making her way make down the hill.

I wonder what kind of gift it is.

"I hope it's better weapons or something, I would kill for a revolver."

Knowing you, that's probably not a hyperbole.

She just grinned.

"Oh come on, this is better then wandering around with nothing to do, right?" Sharlin said, staying cheerful as she picked her way down through the rocks.

"And hey, it's been pretty easy so far! I mean rock-climbing is just rock-climbing."

I wouldn't speak too soon.

"Meh, what's there to be afraid of? Big scary monsters?"

She stopped to examine the ground for ant hills, then kept moving.

"I'll just kill them."

Your optimistic this morning.

"Yes, well, things are starting to get exciting!"

Maj turns and launches his fishing pole like a javelin towards the Greenspine, hoping to maybe hit the eyes that Berin had tried so hard to attack, though knowing the vines would probably stop it.

"Murr, get out of here! It's going for me, not you. One of us needs to survive this!"

The vines wrapped around the fishing pole, but not before the tip jabs the Greenspine's already wounded eye. It screeches and snaps the pole in half, pawing at its eye for a moment before continuing the chase.

Vistari began to wish she had done something interesting with the apples.

She hadn't. They were just regular old Granny Smith.

She sighed, watching Evan make his way down the mountain. She couldn't hear what him and Aerol were thinking back and forth, but she thought she understood.

It will be quite fascinating when they meet...

Squall nods reluctantly but makes his way down, watching for anything that could jump out at him.

Maj, getting tired, tries to keep running and shouts over his shoulder. "You must be getting tired of chasing me in circles! You know, your probably an ambush predator! It would make much more sense to leave me be because catching me will be a whole ton of effort and be more effective to murder one of the ignorant tributes who doesn't know about you yet and is frolicking on the water!"

Squall has not been attacked by something yet, and I find that funny.

A large, quadruple avian creature barrels past, crashing through undergrowth. It has feathers similarly colored to the plants around you.

Completely unrelated, but do you have a mental shielding aviar?

The Greenspine had been thinking about that, and was honestly planning to do so, but if he did it, he would be giving in to the tribute's will, and expected the voices in his head to taunt him endlessly anyways. "I WANT YOUR BLOOD!" it decided to roar.

Berin snorted. Of course.

A little girl came up to him. Are you okay, mister? You look hurt.

You’re right, of course. I would taunt you endlessly if you abandoned the tribute. But, you know, I would taunt you endlessly no matter what, so…

Berin grinned. Are you’re scared that you actually are incompetent? Never knew any fearsome monsters to be insecure, but I guess there is a first time for everything. Flightless birds, traumatic children, wimpy monsters…

Winter just quietly follows Sharlin and Squall. He isn’t about to argue with them.

Ok then. @J. Magi @TheRavenHasLanded, I think.
A more predatory feathered quadruped runs past, back talons propelling it while the wing-like front appendages seem to only be kicking off the ground, preventing it from falling over. It doesn’t seem to notice you, instead pursuing what is presumably its prey.

Sharlin grabs Squall and Winter, stopping them from continuing forward.

She slows her breath till it's silent, and stays perfectly still. Maybe it wouldn't see them.

What the heck is that thing . . . I'll bet it tastes like chicken.

"Ok, thanks for the warning" Evan thinks as he makes his way back into the more jungley part of the island, moving towards the beach. He made sure to be on high alert for any other tributes or potential predators.

"Then get it later, O Beastly One! WIll you fight me here, where you can hardly see and are slowing by the second, or will you leave, to return and attack as a surprise? You cannot catch me on land, O Oceanic One, and your power is drawn from the ocean you were born of! There is no reason to fight me here, on the sandy beaches of this island. You know this. It is far smarter to leave, bide your time, and actually be intelligent! Don't give in to the endless rage within you! There is a mind in there, smarter than all around it. There is a way that you will have my blood, but it will not be now, and will not be here on the beach where I have the advantage. There is a way for you to accomplish what you want to, but it is not through rage. It is through intelligence, through careful thinking and by doing things that the others would not expect of you!"

Maj sighs.

"I know this all too well."
