After everyone was ready, the wagon's began moving again. The sun sank low in the sky as the went, but they saw no more bandits. Eventually, Calum spotted a nice clearing in a wooded spot just off the road. It was the best camping spot they'd come across all night, so they decided to stop there.

Lady Genuhk quickly got a fire going, and Master Igenes started working on a lovely smelling soup.

"Good work everyone," Lady Genuhk called once they had finished making the meal and set up camp. "Everyone did well today, and we're impressed on the efficiency of both teams."

With that, she sat down and started munching on her stew. Master Igenes passed around the other bowls.

Alvar takes his soup, grimacing at the heat. Leaving it to cool, he moves over to Nera or Sleeper, depending upon who finishes first. “Are either of you up for the practice we talked about?” @J. Magi @TheRavenHasLanded

Bedrolls and tents were pulled out of the wagons cargo and set up. The sun has now set, and Lady Genuhk and Master Igenes are sleeping inside the wagons. (You're character can choose to rest, explore, or talk to other characters.)

"Sure!" Nera said, she had finished a few minutes ago. "Why don't Alvar and I take the first watch while we practice," She suggested.

Calum shrugged. "I'll take second," He grunted before throwing in his bowl and leaving to set up his tent.

Sleeper is already dead to the world.

Lusha sat outside the wagon, bow at the ready. She stayed alert as long as she could, but would eventually drift into sleep.

Eublech goes in silently to his tent.

Alvar nods, then drinks his stew now that it's cold. "Do we want a target?"

"Well, I was just thinking we're lucky we stopped in a wood because tree trunks make great targets."

She pulled her own crossbow out and started loading it.

Alvar loads his own crossbow, trying to replicate the movement. He does succeed, but not quickly.

Curious, and testing himself, Dint loads his own crossbow and launches a bolt at the targets casually though quickly.

"It'll get automatic with practice," Nera said re-assumingly. She stood and hefted her crossbow.

She pointed to a thin aspen try about 30 feet away. It stood out fairly well in the darkness because of it's white bark.

"How about that for a target?"

Alvar points the crossbow at it, but the shot goes wide. "This will take a while, won't it." he says, sighing.

"Yes, but every bit of practice counts," Nera said. She aimed her crossbow, holding it steady, and shot. The bolt slammed into the tree hard enough to make it quiver.

"Crossbow's generally have poorer power and range then a traditional bow, but their much easier to learn to aim and pick up quickly."

She gave him a few pointers on aiming while she re-loaded.

Alvar reloads the crossbow and tries again. On try three and four, he hits, but try five misses again. "How do you load these things faster?"

"That's the main drawback," Nera said with a chuckle, "They take a bit longer to draw then a traditional bow. But, with practice you'll memorize the system and it'll go a little faster."

My initial instinct was to have Alvar figure out how to use his bit of magic to help, but I realized that's something Nick would do, not Alvar.

"Practice, and I've seen people carry a couple crossbows so they can shoot each one before loading." He keeps going, missing, hitting, missing again. "We should switch targets, or else I'll end up only being able to hit that specific tree."

"I've never heard of someone using more then before," Nera said, intrigued. "Not that I have the budget to do it if I had."

She finally reloaded the crossbow after just watching, and pointed at a new tree. This one was closer and thicker, but the dark bark made it hard to see even with moonlight. "How about that?"

"That target works." Alvar shoots it, the bolt grazing the edge then falling out. "The bandit crossbows are low quality, but we could use them for such a trick."

She shot her own. It skewed to the left a little more then she'd like, but it still sunk into the wood alright.

"The bandit's must have stolen it off of someone," She pondered aloud. "These things aren't cheap and from our own experience I'd say they weren't the most successful at robbing companies with good coin."

Alvar reloads the crossbow, and hits the tree. "Yes, they likely did. They weren't totally incompetent, perhaps they took them off of inexperienced guards."

"This tree is closer than the other one." he glowers a bit, as if complimenting his was rude.

"It also has darker bark, so it's harder to see at night. Speaking of which, we probably shouldn't be shooting trees anyway. We don't need to make enemies with the local tree nymphs."

Dint jumped down from the wagon. He proffers his crossbow, a slightly dirty contraption. He had learned to take it apart and reassemble it, and had even begun to assemble his own, but other mechanics eluded him.

”Hello.” He said awkwardly. He had wished to talk to them simply for the fact that use of the crossbow had exiled him - he had never really been part of something for using it.

He looks at Alvar, and tells him quietly. “Your form is good. Better than mine, when I learned. I do not really have any tips… everything I learned was on my own. I have never put it into words.”

He shrugged and pointed to a felled tree a ways off in the woods. “That would make a good target. If you miss, you’d be aiming to the ground anyways. It would be easier to retrieve the bolts. And there are no dryads to anger.”
