Alvar drops his herbs and flicks his wrist, opening the water nozzles. He dashes towards the archer in an erratic pattern, a serrated ice blade freezing into existence. The archer needed taking out.

The figure in the woods stands up and starts running through the trees, quickly disappearing.

Dint, when he saw him approach, caught the awkwardly swung club and impaled the hand with his the bolt.

The bandit lets out a low whine from behind his mask, and grabs the hand Dint is holding the bolt with. He yanked on it, freeing his arm and ripping the bolt away from Dint.

The man growled and ripped the dart out.

About half a dozen bandits ran out of the woods towards the wagon, weapons drawn.

Someone still behind the tree-line shot an arrow at Eublech. Nera shot a bolt in their direction, but she couldn't see if she hit.

Another arrow shot through the air at him.

The first of the bandit's reached the blue wagon (which was in front), and they started to climb on.

The bandit crumpled to the ground, holding his leg.

Another one wearing a grey mask rounded the wagon, and swung a club at Dint.

A couple seconds before he's completely immobilized.

Eublech flinched as the arrow hit him in the shoulder. He took a ragged breath, ignoring the pain and preparing another bolt to shoot.

My poison should just make him sluggish. It’s usually used as a painkiller and that sorta thing.

Alvar considers chasing him, but decides against it. Instead, he runs back to the wagon, coming up behind the man with the club. “If you do not surrender, I can and will kill you.” he calls out, not bothering to wait for an answer as he rakes the barbed blade across the bandit’s side, leaving ice shards embedded in his skin.

The man finally collapses.

2 down, one injured, one fled, 3 still approaching from the left.

One of them shot a crossbow bolt at Alvar, wise enough not get too close.

Calum engages one of the other ones left, hitting them with a quick succession of sword-strikes.

The archer was too far away already, and the bolt hits the trunk of a tree

Then he turned and shot another bolt, this one impaling a man in the back.

Arranis grunts in some surprise at the appearance of the bandits. Are they paid, or actual ones? he shrugs, grabbing one of the swords from it's sheath. Let's see how they are against someone with ages of experience. He grins to himself, strolling towards the bandits.

Alvar twists, the crossbow bolt hitting his left arm rather than his heart. He almost rushes the bandit, but stays back and tosses a glass jar instead. A dangerously green gel is inside, the remains of the forest slime.

I’m going to sleep soon. I’ll post once more in each thread, maybe?

Dint shot a bolt at the nearest target.

After several minutes, the city slowly fell away as buildings spread out. An hour or two later, and they were out on the open road, following a wide highway that lead to their destination.

The sun sank a little, as afternoon came upon them and shadows grew.

The highway cut into a thick wood after passing the last of the farms. The trees cast long shadows over the road. Any other traffic had died away, and the wagons were alone on the road.

A little while later a dark figure dashed out from the side of the road, stopping in the middle in front of the party.

They had up a hand, and raised a crossbow threateningly. A few other masked people poked out of the woods. Bandits, very unexpected I know.

Nera squinted at them. Their clothing looked strange, like intentional costumes. Had the city not wanted to hire real mercenaries to test them, and instead settled for theatre players? Well it would make her job easier.

She loaded her crossbow.

😒 so that’s what I get for making dinner for my family and stargazing, huh? /j

Can we retcon that she does something instead of just standing there, like shooting arms or something?

She lowered it.

Alvar walks over; that bandit seems intact enough to surrender and tell others how difficult it would be to rob the tiny caravan. “It’s a minor slime acid. Those get dangerous when they’re older, but if you wipe it off now, maybe you won’t even have scars. Drop your weapons and maybe I’ll help you. Of course, you did shoot me...”

Eublech finally decided to address the arrow in his shoulder. He pulls it out, flinching and clenching his teeth to avoid making any noise. He then bandages it.

The bandit just sneers at him and starts to run back into the woods, no longer concerned about the slime.

"I can make a tonic to help with the pain later . . ." Nera suggested from where she stood on her team's wagon. She had her crossbow loaded, but it was lowered.

There weren't any more actively attacking bandits left, the only ones left alive had either run off, or were lying on the road groaning.

"Well . . . at least it didn't seem to hard."

Alvar shrugs, but is smiling broadly, displaying his multiple canines and bleeding other teeth. Unless the man knew how to neutralize slime acid (flame, cold, or salt could do it easily, but the solution of “stick your hands into a fire” was neither well known nor intuitive), it simply wouldn’t come off. His flesh would corrode eventually, but with the low potency acid, it would be days of agony before that happened.
He bandages the glancing crossbow bolt wound, then recovers his gathered herbs. “I’m not used to fighting people; monsters usually don’t shoot at you. I should get some practice in…”

“Alvar. I can treat that, if you wish. I have knowledge in healing and herbalism.”

Alvar drops the herbs in his arms, keeping only the ones he needs to do the task himself. There is a better herb for the task in the pile, but the one he selected would work as an antiseptic. “So do I. I’ve lived off the land before, you know.”
