Dofurion Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 (edited) I know there's been some recent speculation that Wind is Ba-Ado-Mishram, but with the trailers for episodes 10 and 11 I think we can rule that out given how he acts around Shallan. With this in mind I have the hypothesis that it is actually Chemoarish, points that could give an idea of that: This Unmade is often confused with the Nightwatcher, and since Wind can use Old Magic. Wind is related to Odium since she regains her voice when changing the vessel, so we can rule out that it is some other ancient Spren like Cusicesh. Wind is a female Spren and given Chemoarish's title "Dustmother" we also assume she is female. Edited September 3, 2024 by Dofurion Error in the title 1
Ashbringer he/him Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Chemoarish or Cusicesh? Chemoarish specifically hasn't shown up, and the Wind (or other ancient Old-Magic Spren) may very well have become Unmade. But the Unmade Yelig-Nar is also specifically called "Blightwind" for no perceptible reason. Wind and Truth previous-interlude-preview-reading spoilers: Spoiler Cusicesh has something to do with the Iri's Journey, and may not be a part of Roshar at all. 2

Thanks for making me realize that the title was wrong. Yes, I was referring to Chemoarish from the beginning. I only mentioned Cusicesh as an example of a Unique Spren that is not directly related to any of the 3 Shards associated with Roshar.
duladen he/him Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 It is certainly possible, but my assumption at the moment is that some (maybe all) of the Unmade were once Old Magic Spren and the Wind somehow avoided this fate. The Nightwatcher and Stormfather didn't even really avoid this as they were appropriated by Cultivation and Honor, respectively. I think the only other entity that we've met that avoided this would be Ur. 1

It's tied purely to Adonalsium, and I think that's the reason that Hoid tells Kaladin that he hopes Kal can help the wind. He says something about hoping that somehow a sliver of their old / dead god is still watching through the Wind. I'll just find the quote: Quote “Something is horribly wrong, and has been for several days now, and I can’t figure out what it is. I’ve been waiting for the truth to come crashing down. I don’t know what to do or who to pray to, since the only true God I’ve known is the one we rejected and killed. So I’m sending you off, Kaladin. Hoping that if the Wind spoke to you, then some piece of that ancient deity is watching. Because when everything feels wrong, all I can do is hope.” 4
Through the Living Wrath he/him Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 What if the Wind is the one Old Magic spren that wasn’t unmade? That would put us at a whopping ten total, a number we know roshar holds dear. It would also explain why there are nine surges not ten. Odium bound nine Old Magic spren to him, creating the surges (or at least he only recognizes the surges of the nine he corrupted). Out of respect (something quite honorable), Honor created a tenth surge for the Wind. Oh ye I only read the first few replies. Soorry (I can say that cuz I’m Canadian!) @CognitiveShadow @duladen 4
