The flying spider he/him Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 I'm rereading OB and I was reading the vision of Arhtiam and the stormfather says this: HE FINALLY BROKE, the Stormfather said. HE HAS JOINED THE NINE, WHO STILL LIVE. IN THESE MILLENNIA NONE HAVE EVER DIED AND RETURNED TO DAMNATION, BUT IT DOESN’T MATTER AS IT ONCE DID. We know he is lying from the SA5 prologue and why would he unless it's 2 different creatures? Thoughts? 2

The Stormfather would lie for the same reason he sent a Highstorm during the battle of Narak at the end of WoR - to hide his own failure, this time with Gavilar. For me it's a foreshadowing that the Stormfather can lie. 4
Subvisual Haze Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 It does seem like a pointless thing to lie about by that point. I guess the explanation that seems most likely to me is that there's two minds within "Stormfather" that don't always share information. Stormfather the spren of the highstorm vs. the cognitive shadow of Honor/Tanavast. At the very end of the prologue the entity that is speaking is Honor's shadow (as demonstrated by Gav seeing the universe in its eyes). Being of Honor's shard it can sense when the Oathpact is effected. Thus Stormfather the spren in OB may not be lying because it may not be aware that a Herald died. Still not clear why Honor's shadow would keep that info private from Stormfather the spren. 2
