Sythrin Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 We know that the Cytoverse was originally planned inside the cosmere. There are a lot of similarities. Is it possible that its we will get similar teleportation powers like in the cytoverse. That lone individuals have the power to travel distant stars easily? We know that Nomad can do that but only if he has a huge ammount of investiture. Will we see a more economical variation of it?

I would say that something like the Oathgates is as efficient you'll see it get, as teleportation is pretty powerful. However, a sufficiently powerful/knowledgeable Radiant with the Surge of Transportation may be able to learn how to self-teleport across large distances, as that's really just what the Oathgates themselves do. It's also worth mentioning that TenSoon talked about how the BoM may have been able to transport objects long distances when used to their full extent, which may be by exploiting a temporary Perpendicularity. In any case, Cosmere teleportation seems to be very costly no matter how you cut it. 1

Aon Tia can do this, the Surge of Transportation can do this and it already did this in the past, when Ashynite were migrating to Roshar, they used a supercharged Elsecalling. And this is all faster than light travel, because it moves you through the Spiritual Realm where distance and time doesn't matter. Spoiler Brightlord Maelstrom Would there be a way that is reasonably feasible to use Aon Tia to teleport off-world? Brandon Sanderson Theoretically yes. Brightlord Maelstrom ...Would there be a way to create it where instead of teleporting you directly there, it opens a portal? Brandon Sanderson We'll go ahead and start RAFOing at this point. Oathbringer release party (Nov. 13, 2017) Spoiler Questioner Could you use AonDor to manipulate Connection? If so, would a real AonDor smarty be able to do something similar to a Bondsmith? Brandon Sanderson The short answer to your question is: yes. Let me give some explanation. Even when you are seeings some things happening in Elantris itself, you are seeing them manipulate Connection. It is mostly reinforcing Connection, but it is, in a way, manipulation. Rewriting Connection, rewriting Identity are both things that they can do. So with enough power, with enough smartiness, what a Bondsmith can do can be done. In fact, we have seen short-range Elsecalling done by… Obviously Elsecalling’s not Bondsmithing, but you know that a Bondsmith powered a big Elsecalling [to migrate from Ashyn], one of the big things you’ve seen a Bondsmith do is get people between planets. And you have seen people use AonDor to Elsecall. You’ve seen them Lightweave, you’ve seen them do a lot of these things. They also could do some of this same stuff. Basically, rule of thumb is: almost anything in the cosmere that is possible can be replicated with AonDor with the right program. But you may need an injection of Investiture in certain ways. Dragonsteel 2022 (Nov. 14, 2022) Spoiler Questioner You've said previously that the Oathgates don't obey Physical Realm speed of light. Do they obey the speed of light in Shadesmar? Or are they tapping into the Spiritual Realm shenanigans? Brandon Sanderson They're tapping into Spiritual Realm shenanigans. An Elsecaller is capable of creating something that can teleport you faster than the speed of light. Dragonsteel 2023 (Nov. 21, 2023) In the future Scadrial will develop an FTL drive using their Metallic Arts. We don't know many details yet, but we know it's possible. Spoiler Questioner I've heard you say before that Mistborn was gonna be three trilogies? Brandon Sanderson It'll be three trilogies, yes. Questioner So the technology advances to faster-than-light? Brandon Sanderson Yes. The FTL is built into the magic systems, so there will be something where they figure out how to do that with the magic, and spaceships will be propelled using that. Questioner Expanding bubbles around the engines and around the ships? Brandon Sanderson You'll see. You will see. Questioner Someone on the site has a very convincing theory. Brandon Sanderson They're missing a very big important piece of the puzzle that you won't get for a few more books. Salt Lake City signing 2012 (Nov. 6, 2012) Spoiler Steeldancer (paraphrased) Have you ever heard of the Alcubierre Drive? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yes, I know about the Alcubierre drive. Steeldancer (paraphrased) So, if we took two speed bubbles--mechanized, because Allomancers aren't powerful enough to pull it off--could we create a functioning Alcubierre drive? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) You are theorizing in the right direction. FanX Spring 2019 (April 19, 2019) I doubt it will be cheap, but it's possible that in the future investiture will become more widely available (like Ghostbloods want) and this will make it far more economical.
