The_karni Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 (edited) So I was rereading Rhythm of War and noticed something from Nale's past when Dalinar created a bond with him. Nale cradling a child in one arm, his Blade out as dark forces crawled across a ridge nearby. (from chapter 47) This reminded me of a death rattle that I have heard a lot of people thinking about in the context of Odium's champion, I hold the suckling child in my hands, a knife at his throat, and know that all who live wish me to let the blade slip. Spill its blood upon the ground, over my hands, and with it gain us further breath to draw. What are your thoughts? Edited June 26, 2024 by The_karni 1
The flying spider he/him Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 (edited) Did you mean to quote this from chapter 47? Flash. Nale cradling a child in one arm, his Blade out as dark forces crawled across a ridge nearby. Edit: saw you fixed it. Edited June 26, 2024 by The flying spider
Quantus he/him Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 So, Im biased, but I slot this one into my theory that the tale of Queen Tsa is (also) a story about Cutlivation temporarily giving her Shard to another, almost getting tricked out of it, and instead instigating some sort of dalliance with Tanavast that led to both a Child and to him going Mad (the Honor Shard not letting him live with any form of infidelity). WOB confirms Vessels can have children, and that such a child would have special traits. I think that Child became one of the UnMade, specifically BAM and that's why their ability to Connect and provide Voidlight was such a late development in the Desolation cycle. 3
JustQuestin2004 he/him Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 I thought that Death Rattles only predicted the future, this would be predicting the past. Unless the Death Rattle is predicting someone seeing Nale's past which seems a bit convoluted.

Wow, that could be a point against the child champion theory. 1 hour ago, JustQuestin2004 said: I thought that Death Rattles only predicted the future, this would be predicting the past. Actually there's a rattle "the burdens of nine become mine..." that seems to depict Taln being abandoned to hold the Oathpact on his own. 6
