Guest Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 I'm listening to the most recent Shardcast and they brought up what the new prologues will be. We don't know much about it beyond the fact that Brandon has said that he wants to do something similar. A major inciting incident from 5 different POV's and revealing more each time. I have a suggestion for what it could be and who the POV characters are: the imprisonment of Ba-Ado-Mishram with Melishi as the first POV and Ba-Ado-Mishram as the last POV. It would be an important inciting incident that could have been witnessed by 5 major characters. It involves several of the Heralds. It lead to a breaking of the union between spren and humans like the first prologue lead to the war. It would even be done as a way to stop Voidlight entering Roshar because Ba-Ado-Misham granted the forms of power and Gavilar got Voidlight into spheres. What do you think?

Not quite, Brandon has already said there'll be flashbacks from Lift, Renarin, Shalash, Taln and Jasnah in that order. Whatever happens, it'll have happened after Stormlght 5. Maybe the 'Night of Sorrows' of which we have no info on.

You're a bit off here. You are correct that the five flashback characters for the back five books will be Lift, Renarin, Ash, Taln, and Jasnah, just like the front five have Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Venli/Eshonai, and Szeth. That's not the question that was asked, however. The OP was asking who the Prologue characters would be. (Front five were Szeth, Jasnah, Eshonai, Navani, and Gavilar) I have no clue what the event could be! I'm thinking it's either the direct end of SA5 or some other incident that will inevitably happen over the course of 15 years. 1

In that case I have no idea what the next 'Prologue Event' could be. I kind of doubt it'll be another assassination since Brandon wouldn't just repeat the same thing in the same series. It would make more sense to have this take place closer to the Back Half of Stormlight than right after Stormlight 5, though the Assassination of Gavilar took place about 6 years before TWoK so really it could be anytime between Stormlight 5 and 6. 2

It would be interesting to read about it, but I think that's too far in the past to be influential to SA5-10. Right now Shallan might be on her way to free BAM in KoWT and this would not matter that much in the backhalf books. What I think will happen is that KoWT will end in peace or some kind of ceasefire and the prologue of SA5-10 will be about the event that restarted the conflict and brought it to another devastating level. But that’s too obvious so who knows.
Isilel Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 According to this WoB: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/369/#e11669 and some others along similar lines, the first half of SA is more about Radiants, while the second one will be more about the Heralds. So, I imagine that we will learn about the reasons for the Recreance and details of BAM's imprisonment in the 5th book. Whereas the second arc will have something to do with how it all started and presumably with how to avoid repetition of the past. So, IMHO the prologues might depict the day of swearing of the Oathpact. 1
Guest Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 @isilel, That's a great idea. Another option would be the last day on Ashyn.
