I see what you did there. :P If I were on my computer, I'd post a picture of a picture of a toucan with the caption "Toucan play at this game." But I'm on my Kindle, so that option's out. :P

There there. His redemption wouldn't mean anything if we never saw him as a slontze. Though really, Steve Lawrence needs a hug. Backtrack deserves a sharp slap, but Steve Lawrence needs a hug.

(Something that just occurred to me... if you feel the evolution references are out of place, I can take them out. I'm not sure how controversial or offensive they are here, but the last thing I want to do is offend anyone. Reading a number of creationist zoology books has made me cautious of this sort of thing.)

CURSE YOU QUOTA FOR THE ACCIDENTAL DOWNVOTE!

I'm one of those who don't find references to either theory offensive. To me, the distant past isn't as important as the present, so casual evolutionary references don't bother me. (Besides, I'm a Whovian. The Doctor only references evolution....what, eight times per season at least? :P)

As both a devoutly religious person and a committed scientist (or at least an aspiring one), I'm not offended. That might be because I find nothing of offense in either the topic or the presentation.

My thoughts are that even someone who doesn't accept evolutionary theory shouldn't find its presence in a work of fiction offensive. I would hope that they would be able to accept it as part of the fictional world without thinking that the fictional world is making a truth claim about it that they need to oppose.

Fixed that for ya! :)

Agreed on everything except the "aspiring scientist" bit, since the math goes right over my head. :) The only time I find it offensive is when one party or the other is shamed and browbeaten for their views (and this applies when the espoused view is creation OR evolution). If there's nothing belligerent about the presentation, which there isn't here, then getting offended just makes you a baby meanieface full of lame. ;)

Thank you muchly. :)

I fully agree. I mean, I have definite positions on the cultural issues surrounding it - I believe there is a definite correct and incorrect side in the arguments - but browbeating and shame have no place in meaningful public debate. Logical, well-supported arguments are what public policy should be based off of, not which side can shout loud enough to make the other one shut up.

I can't claim neutrality, either—I doubt anyone can, really. But I also agree that shouting each other down shouldn't be the go-to strategy for winning. My old high school's debate team had "If your argument is weak, pound the table" printed on their sweatshirts. It was meant to be ironic, but when it's actually used is when it becomes nigh impossible for anything meaningful to be said. Which is sad, because there are extremely intelligent people on both sides of the debate, but when they start trying to shout each other down, it seems like all that intelligence goes to waste while we watch them debate to win the argument.

Sorry. Tangent.

Before I go to bed, I have a question for Mailliw: Can Frequency tune out certain radio broadcasts, or does he automatically hear everything? And if he can simply focus on one radio within fifty yards, does it have to be in the same building?

Considering you also have the refreshingly human Edgerunner, I'd feel comfortable rating you with 2.5 at the highest.

They aren't particularly likely to get married any way, especially since they'd never get through a wedding ceremony. Lightwards would kill and zombify the pastor for having the sheer audacity to say "You may kiss the bride." :P

As absolute rulers of their terretory they could just decleare themselves married.

Ok, I just got back from Camping, And I'm not going to read the Past 8 pages of this Thread. (We write to Much) So was there any Serious Planning done, and Do I need to post anything?

(Note that I'll be gone for a good chunk of Today.)

As everyone said, nothing really important. The question has been raised if there is an interest in "What happened in Astoria" and when would be a good moment to start it but nothing concrete.

In case you want to be really acurate you could add a lovecraftian horror to represent Nighthound´s ancestory. :P

That goth girl didn't really need the rest of her family anyway, right?

That´s the spirit and it´s not like her family needs to not be killed to have a happy live either.... wait  Backtrack may have missed a spotcheck. :P

Woah woah woah—I thought we were trying to redeem Backtrack, not permanently scar his psyche!

Then again….maybe Backtrack can only be redeemed through the power of severe psychological scarring. Bring on the Old Ones, Kobold! :P

See, he deserves everything I want to do with him.

He gets them all, but can push them out of his mind and concentrate on one at a time. Any radio signal in fifty yards gets transmitted to him, regardless of where he is.

Would anybody object to my introducing an Epic called Karmic Justice?

After sitting behind yet another person who thinks that reclining your seat right into the legs of a 6'4 person sitting behind you who's already cramped enough on an economy flight is perfectly acceptable behaviour I feel an odd urge to vent upon the poor people of Oregon.

Ugh. Sorry about your discomfort. :(

Of course you're always welcome to torment the people of Oregon. That's the point of having a bunch of nameless NPCs, right? Killing them off in horrible ways? :P

Anyway, I'm not sure what other directions the Backtrack-Reader conversation can go in. I can only inflict so much internal pain on Backtrack before it starts getting repetitive. :P

Well, it looks like the Autumn/Twins interrogation is winding down. Maybe Reader could release him to Autumn's unintentional torment? :P

I was just about to suggest that too, both conversations seem to be pretty much done.

And if Reader told Autumn to "Take him to our healer," to which Autumn glared and said "Yeah, best healer we've ever had," intending it as an insult to Koschei, how terrified would Backtrack be? ;)

According to my extrapolations, he would grab onto Reader's legs and have to be forcibly dragged out of the office, kicking, crying and screaming the whole way. :P

Sorry, could you repeat that? All I heard was "We have to use that idea right now." :P

How did the old saying go? The way to hell Backtrack´s suffering our amusement is paved with good intentions. ;)

I've just realized that my lists of Epics in both the thread and Doc are rather out of date so I'll be fixing them up over the next couple of days and adding in a few dozen extra Epics :P
You know, because we need canon fodder for the Corpsemaker war, not because I like it or anything.  <_<

The Dalles is Backtrack's hell, and Backtrack's hell is just another name for "our amusement." :P

(I would be upvoting everything here, but I'm too busy burning a Quota effigy.)

And that means that Backtrack´s tears equal good intentions. ;)

What's been planned since last night?

Nothing really, unless you have any ideas for an Astoria thread.

Talking about planning, anything left to hold of the time-skip?

DANG QUOTA WHYYYYY????? DOWNVOTES WILL BE THE END OF US!!!

I was intending for the next Reader post to be the last. The name Remington Springfield is going to bring up many memories, most of them bad, and Reader is going to either send Backtrack out, where he can meet autumn, or bring autumn in, depending on the way the post will go and what you guys want.

Whichever way lends itself better to tormenting Backtrack. :P So probably Reader calling Autumn in would be the better option, since it would give the illusion that whoever is in charge trusts Reader more and gives him more authority, when really it's the other way around. After seeing the Koschei/Reader conversation in that office, such a display would make Backtrack even more nervous.
