He gave her a very awkward hug.

Kind of. It became a large cone that could amplify her voice, though not electronically.

The noises and lights seemed to begin fading.

“No, don’t leave!”

Jenny held up Gift and yelled into it as loudly as she could.

TERRANCE!

This probably wouldn’t work, but Jenny didn’t know what else to try.

She shrugged. "She was old. I loved my grandma, but now she's probably with my grandpa! Which means she's probably happier than she was with me." She said, smiling.

“I hope they’re together. And I’m sure you were a great grandchild.” He didn’t point out the fact that statistically they would both be in asphodel, wandering endlessly.

The sound of her voice was muted, and the atmospheric lights and noise now completely lost.

She let out a gasp, suddenly getting excited. "Do you think I'll be able to go find them when we go to the underworld?"

Jenny had scared it all away. She sat on whatever the equivalent of the ground was and hugged her knees to her chest. There wasn’t anything else she could think of to help Terrance. But she couldn’t just give up on him.

Any ideas, Gift?

Would to be funny if he died? Maybe just temporarily, but...

Jenny might just straight up break, but that could be an interesting direction for her…

“That’s…probably not a good idea.”

 No, I’m sorry.

That’s not the type of thing you can reverse.

We don’t, but I don’t think we need one, personally. We have a large enough group not everyone will care.

Honestly you might be able to get some positive character development out of it if someone is able to save Terrance. He might be able to trust people a bit more. It would also help keep his interactions with most characters from being really limited like they are now.

"Ok." She said, a bit disappointed.

How do we fix the whole Terrance thing?

Jenny sat there for a while longer. She wasn’t sure how long. It was hard to track the passing of time when you were sitting in nothingness. Eventually, she picked up Sword. There was nothing more she could do, so it was time to wake up. Feeling cold and empty, she slashed her throat.

She opened her eyes, finding herself awake and in the train. Jenny immediately went to Terrance and felt for a pulse. She hadn’t liked those lights and voices fading.

Edgar wrapped his arms around her protectively but not impeding her movement. He hadn’t realized how scared he’d been for  her.

He appeared exactly as he had before.

Elsie looked at Jenny with excitement. "What happened? Were you two able to talk?" She gasped, excited again. "Did you become friends?" She asked, grinning ear to ear.

He wasn’t dead. But he might’ve as well been. Terrance was trapped somewhere, and she had no idea how to rescue him. She likely had accidentally taken part in somehow stranding his mind.

Jenny silently shook her head. She wasn’t sure what to do, so she just stood there. She looked expressionless. Killer. Murderer. Monster. That was all she was. She never should’ve tried to help. Jenny should’ve left him be. Stupid, worthless Jenny.

"Well, maybe he'll snap out of it by himself. Or we could try the blood stuff..." She wrinkled her nose.

Jenny doubted gorgon blood would work. Whatever had happened to Terrance, it hadn’t hurt him physically. She didn’t mention her thoughts, though. Who was she to ever suggest how best to help someone?

"Oh no!" She gave him a hug, knowing it probably wouldn't help. "He's sad."
