The strange man walked down the line, studying each Epic in turn.

"You," he told CorpseMaker, "are fine."

CorpseMaker tried unsuccessfully to kill him with a glance.

"You," he told Nighthound, "are technically allowed in this universe, but you're too creepy for me. Your sister killed you the second she got her powers."

Nighthound had no chance to protest before he vanished. Lucentia's smug smile disappeared when Sanderson addressed her next.

"But then you were killed in a duel three days later."

Sanderson passed Quota, Sightline, Altermind, and Möbius, giving them each a verbal stamp of approval before stopping at Funtimes.

"You," he said.

"Me!"

"You should not even exist. You are against every rule of this universe."

Funtimes left Nathan to stare at Sanderson in disbelief.

"So what? That means I'm dead now?"

"I'm afraid so."

TwiLyght leveled a glare as Nathan vanished. "You're a dirty meanieface full of lame, Mr. Sanderson."

 

I say we excessively refer to Doctor Funtimes across the entire forum, pushing her to become a widespread 17th Shard meme. By the time she's fully entrenched in the hearts of Sharders, Brandon Sanderson should be writing Calamity. We then launch a forum-wide campaign to have Funtimes namedropped in the novel.

If I were a decent artist, I'd draw her shoving a small nuke in Nathan's face, shouting "LOOK WHAT I MADE!" while Nathan mutters "Ah, crap" and post it to the gallery in an effort to charm Sanderson out of vetoing her. Alas, my art skills are so nonexistent that it would be two stick figures, one in a dress, which isn't charming at all.

With war coming, they need all the Epics they can get. Making a few costumes and faking powers for a few vanillas is easier than actually recruiting Epics, and makes the Empire look more powerful and attractive, thus drawing even more Epics who will want to join the winning side.

But now that he punched Nathan and called him a pet, Funtimes will be loathe to do this even if he suggests it, if for no other reason than to punish Lightwards for being a meanieface.

Lightwards strode into the Museum with a ridiculously large smile on his face. Clearly he was very pleased with his city errands' results.

 

"Hello, Doctor," he said smoothly, waltzing up to Funtimes. "Remember how you wouldn't let me use any of your vanillas for faction intimidation? Well, I got my own."

 

He snapped his fingers and a fat man in a Batman T-shirt walked up behind him.

 

"Allow me to introduce Ironchest the Obliterator!" Lightwards proclaimed victoriously.

 

The man ignored the Epic name and started munching on a bag of potato chips.

 

"That's Bill from downtown," Sam said skeptically, looking him up and down. "He'd be worse at being an Epic than--well, anyone."

 

Bill from downtown burped and sat on a small dinosaur, which let out a pitiful dying cry.

 

Lightwards stared at him for a minute before throwing his head back and letting out a maniacal cackle. "He's perfect!"

Absolutely. They would need to stage deaths, or make up some story about them leaving on some sort of secret mission before anyone could get suspicious, and they would also need to retire the con early. But that is one positive spin Funtimes could've put on her bluff, if Lightwards hadn't jumped right to "Imma punch him and make her angry cuz I'm angry!"
