He’s either being honest or a really good actor.

The way his touch made her feel though…she wanted him to be sincere.

Yes…she definitely wanted this to be real.

 But it wasn’t. She forcibly made herself not move away from him. So he would think she trusted him, of  course. No other reason.

This is dangerous. Don’t let yourself get comfortable.

 Why not? If I’m being used…then this is a much better way to be used.

He looked into her eyes. Jacin smiled back, bringing his thumb up and brushing it over her cheekbone, gaze zeroing in on her lips.

When his hand touched her cheek, she jerked back in alarm, her breathing  speeding up. Fear entered her eyes.

Jacin flinched visibly, quickly withdrawing both his hand and arm and scooting a few feet away from her. "I'm sorry, I meant you no harm." He said quickly, eyes worried.

She looked down, her breath becoming irregular and only coming in quick pants. She didn’t even seem to notice him any more.

Jacin bit his lip, moving to the floor in front of her but off to the side a bit. "Freja, breathe. Deep breaths." He said in a gentle coaxing voice, like one might use with a frightened or wounded animal.
