Top of page 105, US hardback, 'gallivanting' is spelled as 'galivanting'. This has already been reported to Peter.

Not sure how to report it to Peter..

Posting here is enough. :)

Not sure if this is a discrepancy (eg. 500 planes vs 300 planes) or if the wording is just confusing (eg. 500 planes and 300 pilots)

Quote

We had starfighters, yes. As many as five hundred if we needed them. But barely any capital ships. - Ch 2

Quote

Twenty-seven hundred fighters? Even with our allies, we had barely three hundred. - Ch 17

I imagine it’s the latter? The ambiguity of ‘fighters’ and ‘starfighters’ being used to refer to both the craft and the piloted plane throughout the book makes it a bit confusing here.

I found two typos while reading on the Sabbath which (obviously) means I can now only recall one of them.

Page 104, third paragraph, last sentence of the first edition first printing US hardcover: "There was even some beat , which I'd last eaten in the nowhere."

I'm pretty sure Brandon meant "beet", as in the vegetable beetroot, especially since this is in context of a salad.

Now if only I could recall the second one which appears relatively close by, probably within 50 pages or so...

Cheers!

This is intentional on Brandon's part and a mistake on Spensa's, originating in Cytonic:

“This one isn’t,” Maksim said. “I’ve been saving it, and a can of this red stuff. The label said ‘beets.’ Either of you remember anything about them?”

“Nope,” I said, turning the little corn chunk in my fingers. “ ‘Beats’ is a cool name though. Isn’t it strange that we used to consume piles of this stuff every day?

Hey Ene!

Oh well haha, maybe it was a typo back then too and they just rolled with it 😂

I spent some time reading the 50-60 pages after this trying to find the other typo to no avail. Maybe when I give the book a proper reread in the future I'll come across it. At least it wasn't as bad as the entire paragraph that was lacking even a single space in the Gollancz split paperback edition of Row.

Page 133. “They few use their precious democracy to oppress the many.”  “The few…”

They is referencing the Superiority (same as the sentence before that), and "few" is the small number of member species. It fits with previous Kitsune dialog.
Defiant Ch 13:

Spoiler

He glanced at me. “This is one truth the Superiority was correct about. They warned us that one person having too much power would lead to a civilization without freedom. Strange, that I should learn this lesson from those who did not follow their own counsel. They few use their precious democracy to oppress the many.”

But good to have it on record for review. Thanks
