Suvudu Cage Match 2012

Here's this year's bracket:

http://sf-fantasy.suvudu.com/2012/02/cage-match-2012-the-bracket-revealed.html

As you can see, both Moiraine and Kelsier are in the Starfleet Academy: Holodeck bracket. I think it's only appropriate that they're seeded numbers one and two. I can't wait to see Moiraine kick Tarzan's loincloth clad booty!

What fights are you looking forward to?

Wow, it's all ready cage match time again, huh? Seems like the 2011 one practically just ended.

I'm interested to see how Zaphod Beeblebrox does. i would actually love to see him win (douglas adams = my favorite author, no matter how much i love brandon's work)

Hoping for an eventual Kelsier/Moiraine matchup here.

To be fair (and i believe i brought this up at last years' when i think rand/vin matchups were mentioned), based on the power set, the one power is far more powerful than a mistborn's powers. It would realistically be a non-contest. That's because the one power is pretty much infinite in what it can do, where as allomancy is limited to its particular tricks, and follows a strict set of rules. The one power is basically as instant as thought to anyone channeling it, and has no real way for a non-channeler to stop/combat them.

Even with Atium, they still wouldn't really hold an edge against the one power. Sure, they could dodge anything thrown at them and all that, but there's no possible way for someone to "dodge" the air solidifying around them, or having their head exploded because that so fit the enemy's whim.

(though, of course we all know that cage matches are really more just popularity contests than anything else)

But it does give us fantasy nerds a chance to pretend the skill of each character matters. ;P

The first round of fights have been posted and voting is open. Since they've listed ALL of the first round fights you have to scroll through a few pages to find all of your favs. Here are the two most pertinent links:

To vote for Kelsier:

To vote for Moiraine:

It also give some of our favorite authors the chance to write some wicked awesome fanfic.

True.

Though I am still wondering how, in Seregil vs Bast's fight, it can say in the chart Seregil is distracted by the "ladies" if he is gay 0_o (link).

Wow.. round two is fairly amusing. I bet it is kind of hard to write an Allomantic battle if you haven't read the book, but still, I was laughing straight through it.

The comments section gets a little cat-fighty, though.

and Moraine is here:

with a nice Mistborn reference :P

Ah, Cage Matches... is it that time of year again already? And by "that time of year", I of course mean that time of year in which I threaten all of you to make sure Richard Rahl doesn't win by holding the site's design scheme hostage.

Of course, it's likely going to be Rahl vs Anomander Rake; Sword of Truth vs Malazan. And I doubt the two will kill each other, as much as I would like for that to happen. And Saphira will likely win here match, which (I hope) will put her against Beeblebrox...

Honestly, this year it feels like their scraping the barrel for combatants. I don't even know half the entries...

Whoever wrote Moraine's is a fan of Mistborn. :) I laughed when I read hers.

Yeah, Moraine got a good write-up.

Also, Moraine and Kelsier won by the greatest percentages last round! Woo!

(of course, they both had pathetically easy opponents, but...)

Granny's write-up was funny as well.

That was the most awful mistborn fight I've ever read! She obviously didn't read the book. Or the wiki article. Or anything at all on the Coppermind. Or anything at ALL describing his powers. Plus I think she just wanted her character to win.

Moraine's fight was good, though, and I absolutely loved the Mistborn reference!

On the Kelsier write-up, yes, it was woefully inaccurate, but I really appreciated Stacia Kane's response in the comments. She did try to do her research and she's looking to read Mistborn very soon. In fact, her candidness and niceness makes me like her a lot.

Also, Sir Read-a-lot gets mad props for diffusing the flame war. Good job, man.

I was only defending our good name.

I still want to know where she found the silver detail. About the only place I can think of where she would have found it was that one annotation, and I rate the chances of her reading the annotations for the write-up as practically nil.
