"Redirecting attack," Junior quickly shot over his communication headset to Aria.

She nodded, a grin spreading across her face. "How about Twig?"

"Banking Roll into Twin Scissor," Junior suggested as he used a light-lance-assisted reverse backpedal around to direct his destructors to Twig's airship.

"Affirmative."

Olviere heard the cockpit rattle. Quickly, he adjusted the triggers and levers.

"Aria- Docking out for a moment, malfunction with Gravitational Capacitors."

The shutter went away and a bright orange light came on his main board. He swerved back upwards.

"All good."

They targeted Twig's ship and began the Rolling Twin Scissor Maneuver, again with Junior taking on attacker and Aria being the defending aircraft.

"Setting off destructors in three... two..."

He pulled a lever and clicked forward a latch, releasing destructors on the locked-in target, heading straight for the tail of Twig's ship.

Nova noticed the other two fighters closing in on her and Twig. As they didn't seem to be focusing on her, she assumed they were attacking Twig.

Len rolled his ship, dodging. He didn't open fire, only wove between the meteors.

He chases after, accelerating faster, pressing against the Grav-caps. He swings with his light lance, weaving and dropping over head with an Ahlstrom loop.

Len laughed, breathing deeply. He turned sharply around a meteor, then over another and under a third. He felt the g-forces pushing him back and he didn’t care.

This.

This was what he lived for. Not a fight, not an argument, not a petty rich boy.

For the sky.

For the thrill of pushing further than should be possible.

For the black creeping at the edges of his vision just before he leveled out.

For the stars, faintly visible in the sky above.

This was what it felt like to be alive.

Elan laid back on his ship, staring into the sky. The beautiful and terrifying infinite universe, stretching forever before him. He breathed cold, crisp air, listening to the wind around him. This... this was peace.

He hated that it would have to end. Someday, sometime soon, they would have to learn.

It hurt Elan, marring him down to the soul.

So he ignored it, letting those thoughts flow out of his mind, leaving only him and the vast expanse above.

"Scud!" A bunch of people were suddenly attacking Twig. Maybe she shouldn't have insulted Obsidian as much. A screen in her cockpit showed Twig missiles heading straight at her tail. Twig light-lanced a meteor, swinging around it before releasing and causing the missiles to slam into the meteor.

Twig was now boosting directly towards the attackers, and she began spraying destructor fire on every Obsidian ship attacking her.

Posted

Junior dodged, weaving through the missiles, and broke from the Rolling Twin Scissors Maneuver to dive on Twig's ship.

As he sliced through the thick, fiery canvas above, the world beneath him blurred into a mosaic of fleeting landscapes. The wind whistled tales of freedom and rebellion, but to him, it was just another choreography of calculated maneuvers.

"Locating target, firing at the nose," Junior muttered through his headset.

The sky, once his sanctuary, had become a mere battleground where dreams were traded for victories.

"Light lancing over meteor, radar locked," He said as he fidgeted with the piloting board.

The roaring engine, his only company, drowned out the symphony of the sky, leaving only the metallic cadence of chaos. The organized chaos of war.

"Releasing light lances," He said as he sent missiles towards Twig's right wing.

But in the descent towards Twig, he couldn't deny the hypnotic allure of the plummet, the cruel beauty of a dance choreographed in destructors, light lancing, and adrenaline.

"Destructors on standby."

The heavens had lost their innocence, and the only stars he chased were painted on the wings of his poco.

Nova gave up on attacking Twig, and flew back up, where it was peaceful. The beauty of it. They sky, the ships. Little children trying to murder eachother in spaceships.

This is what he lived for.

Not some silly sky.

Not the speed of a soaring poco.

The thrill.

The thrill of the chase.

Predator and Prey.

The thrill of power.

He does a long loop around some meteors, swerving off the radar.
After a moment he comes swinging in out of a small gap in two meteors.
He gets close for a mere moment as he is maxing out his GravCaps, and he blasts his IMP.

He quickly goes to make a loop to turn and face him. He has a wide grin across this face.

”Gotcha…” He whispers, flipping around.

Silver mutes the petty insults being traded by the humans and flies off to practice basic maneuvering in this ship. The others can try and show off, but he wasn’t interesting in warning their respect. Since they insisted on being dumb, he would try and get some use out of his time.

Quote

DDF ships do NOT have missiles, or automatic targeting systems. They can shoot destructor lasers (like Star Wars), use a light Lance (space rope) and use an IMP to disable nearby shields, including their own.

Aria watched everyone else, knowing that they were all having revelations in their cockpits. There was something about silence—the sort of silence you found when you were alone in the wide, wide sky!—that made you fill it with the recesses of your soul. She watched them, and instead of her exuberant grin or her laughter, a small, small smile drifted across her face. This was what she wanted. She wanted to watch the mechanisms of the universe at odds with each other, humans against each other and against the unstoppable, infallible, falling meteors. She wanted to watch what people did when they didn’t know what to do. What people did when they could do anything at all. She wanted to watch them. There was a beauty to it all! The spinning ships, which could be stars if you were far enough away. It was only a matter of perspective.
Perspective. Of course, no flight crew was better, for the term better is subjective. It has only the meaning each individual grants it. But if you ignore terms like this, their purpose being to categorize and define people, you got not the dreams but the reality. The reality of the world! Harsh and cruel and cold and glittering.

Beautiful.

Something worth dying for.

She lived for these moments.
The moments to die for.

Here, in the vast sky, too big for her to even try to comprehend, pressing and empowering and blanketing and propelling, she smiled.

BET I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL—

Len kept swerving. Shields were a safety net, a promise that it was okay to be weak. He didn’t need them. Len might not be the best fighter but oh, he could fly.

He swerved through the meteors, taking a path that couldn’t be copied. He used his light lance to make sharp turns, over and under and between. He flew…not quite like breathing. It was as natural, of course, but so much more beautiful.

He finally paused in the center of the falling meteors, the middle of a thick rain of destruction.

When he flew, Seven was one with the stars. There was no distinction between him and the ship and space- there was just freedom.

Just... freedom...

Shots. Ugly red wounds in the sky.

His breathing quickened.

'Seven!' Supernova screamed. But it wasn't him.

One with the stars. One with the stars.

Death.

Seven's knuckles were white on the controls. The computer was shouting warnings at him, but he couldn't hear them.

Have to get out. Have to get out.

He pushed forwards, shooting away from the battle. Away from the noise. Away from the memories.

Aria connected to Jock’s comm, hoping to distract him from his pursuit of her flightleader. “If you don’t mind me asking, why did you choose your callsign as Jock? It’s just interesting to me. Not everyone likes to admit their lack of intelligence so openly.”

Jason flew between falling meteors. The others were busy insulting each other, which was fine by him. It only distracted themselves from his attacks. He chose a phantom and attacked it, blue destructor beams flashing.

Idk who I attacked, just anyone who wants to fight right now.

A flash of blue light slammed into the ship's shield. Seven's throat tightened. His gaze became narrow and focused as he light-lanced a passing piece of debris, turning to catch his adversary in his sights.

He fired a quick volley. No time to think. Failure to act meant death.
